Nice work, I have tried several times to build a camera car (trophy truck) and failed... multiple times. This design gives me a whole new look at it. Thanks so much for sharing your ingenuity.
This is really awesome. I’d love to have a setup like this for the shop I run at. Do you think one could run a gyro on all the servos holding the camera up to get an active stabilizing effect like full size camera cars have?
Cool shots and great content! What about adding a servo to the cam mount and using a gyro to keep it pointed at the action even when the truck is cornering?
totally we had it connected to the steering servo. the issue is that the gyro will snap the camera as fast as the steering would. it doesn't give a good image for sure. BUT. 3.0 is using large gimbal motors, with an dedicated gimble driver board. That way we can adjust the PID algorithm independently. The gyro doesn't really do much for us, because the stabilization takes care of most of the jitter. but being able to swing the camera back and forth with a large big power low rpm brushless gimble motor will probably be a game changer. we're also adding another operator, with fpv control of the gimble and shot. it's way over kill. the Swiffer does a better job. but it's not as coool.

The camera seems to swing from side to side quite quickly/a lot. if you shortened the rods it's mounted on it should give it a much stabler view of the action.
Thats sick! Have you though about using counterweight? Think many camera sticks/cranes similar to those have some kind of counter weight on opposite side of pivot, less wobble, less strain on servo. Also those guys with cameras on mops :D Maybe for some ultra low shots you should to that too? Or use one of those shopping cart style wheels to keep in on the ground but not obstruct the driving.
it's fun thinking up ways to improve it for sure. The next version is going for a much larger gimbal motor. the small shake im really not too worried about, the stabilization is great. now if we could improve the track lighting we'd be golden.
After flying my DJI mini 4 pro today, I was thinking it would be super cool to have a similar "subject scanning" to keep the cars in frame. I'm sure this could be achieved otherwise, but the idea was fun. I've seen videos where they strapped a mini to a larger drone just to use the camera. The low angle shots are cool, but they also block the action behind the first car, so they're kinda a double-edged sword. Very awesome work, as always.
Awesome work dude! Are you using the mixing from steering input for the camera yaw or was that mostly for demonstration? Shame the servos had to be removed, maybe revert to some manual adjustment instead? maybe try to spring load it in some way? 😀

yeah i design them all. just jump in and do youtube tutorials. fusion 360 is the most popular. im using a web based program called on shape. both free for creators.

hey. we played around with head tracking at the drift track. You loose all depth when turning your head. every one that tried the rig, locked their heads. no need for head tracking at all. you won't use it.
