Could you do the Cloud Neo Nexus just because its the first 100% recyclable shoe and a monthly payment for your shoes as a service so you send them back after 6 months and if you want to continue the subscription you just get a new pair made from components from the old pairs that have been broken down and is 100% circularity meaning you re-use every piece of the previous shoe. I just ran in them and the springboard and the light weight was incredible. Nothing about them felt 100% recyclable. They could revolutionize the shoe industry.
I've had these for a few months. Very comfortable. I normally run in 8.5, but the store only had 9, so mine are roomy even with an orthotic. I'm only training in them (up to 10K distance). I discovered my feet got tired during a 10-mile race - possible due to these being slightly too big. Still great shoes. 😃👍
Yes, your feet will get tired because there are huge holes in the sole to absorb energy... vs returning it. The sole has poor engineering for a top-model running shoe... I wouldn't run more than a half mile in these things. Imagine running on wet sand vs firm grass. For folks who maintain a reasonably quick pace (sub 7min) I think a carbon fiber plate w a reasonably engineered sole will take you much further.
Wow. Glad see over 40k subscribers. I remember when you just had few hundred when you first started! Congrats mate and thanks for the reviews as always!
I'm very overweight (currently 280), a heel-to-mid-foot striker, run only on the sidewalk. Most On shoes I've tried for my feet are pretty crap, but the Cloudmonster is thus far the best daily running shoe I've ever had. No break-in time, nice lockdown for my foot, no more heel pain, no more occasional swollen ankle, my legs feel a bit more fresh, plus the speed board/rocker design makes a difference. The shoes are marketed as "monster cushioning" but I'm getting an oddly firm-ish ride but super soft landings on the concrete with no "bottoming put". I tried the New Balance 1080 v12 and my heel kept occasionally sinking to the ground, destroying my heels. Basically everything else is just as you said Zach.
I just tried a pair of these today and I have to say probably some of the most comfortable shoes I have ever tried. I'm definitely ordering myself a pair of these
@@drewali7 omg yess they range around $100 and are probably the most comfortable shoes I have ever had. They are great for running or just overall walking. I have two pairs already and I would love to get more in the future. The best are the ON Monsters
I’ve got this shoe in the purple color. I also put about 600 miles in the Cloudstratus V2 before those cloud elements kind of lost their ability to maintain cushioning which resulted in me feeling that speedboard and making the shoe uncomfortable to run in. I really loved the Cloudstratus V2, and the Cloud Monster is very similar in fit and feel. But the Cloud Monster is lighter, it has better midsole cushioning, and the upper feels even lighter and more breathable. One nice thing about these shoes for me is that I could wear them with or without socks, and without really having to worry about how tightly I laced them up, and I never had blisters or discomfort or soreness of any kind (at least until the Cloudstratus v2 had over 500 or 600 miles on them.)
I really wanted the purple color but my size was out- yeah I noticed too with previous On’s you can tell exactly when the midsole starts giving - will be interesting to see how these do over the long haul
@@FootDoctorZach Yeah, if these shoes don’t last very long then I probably will be reticent to buy more at $170 each. My Cloudstratus V2 held up ok outside of the cloud elements starting to lose their cushioning ability after 500 miles. I can still wear them to walk around in.
@@iakona23 how did you feel the fit compared to the Stratus? Mine are finally bottoming out since I wear them 24/7 (on my feet all day but nor running) I really loved that roomy toebox because I have a *mildly* wide forefoot and long toes so it's hard to find the right combination of length/width while still keeping my heel and arch where they need to be. I am jonsing for a pair of these but I doubt I'll find any local to try on.
@@soylencer The upper on the Cloud Monster kind of lacks structure and my toes get scrunched together because the toe box is not as roomy as the Cloudstratus. Maybe I could solve that problem by going up half a size. I would not recommend Cloud Monster personally because I think there are better shoes out there with better longevity.
@@iakona23 thanks for the reply! It's so hard for me to find shoes which fit correctly that honestly the longevity is kind of secondary. I genuinely tried on 30 or 40 pairs of others over the course of a week before I tried on the Stratus which fit great. I spent my whole life overweight and wearing $30 Walmart sneakers while standing/squatting for work. My weight isn't an issue anymore but the damage is done. So I splurge on fit and comfort now. The Stratus were the best shoe I've ever worn, though I need to admit I don't run in them. I have a pair of CloudRock that I'm also generally satisfied with although they've not been on the trail more than twice. Those also had a nice roomy toebox. Anyway, while the fact that they lock cool as heck makes Clouds my first stop now, the fact that they seem to fit keeps me around.
Excelente reseña. Tengo unos on 5 y acabo de comprar los cloudmonster, por ser corredor de pisada media y un poco de malestar en la bola del talon. Creo que fue una excelente compra
I'm an overpronator and these are great. Actually prefer them over the Aces. Got almost 200 miles in them already and have only had them a lil shy of 2 months.
I decided to buy this shoe after viewing at sooooooo many reviews to find the best running shoe for moderate running. I’m not a racer or anything but I do daily running up hills, and on the roads for the most part.I have flat feet that probate pretty bad. These aren’t support shoes but rather performance. They’re super comfy! This was a good investment!!! The shoe does what it suppose to do!! I ran faster and longer without fatigue. I was able to run up this steep hill far more easier on my monster on clouds versus my basic on clouds. The shoe has energy return throughout the entire sole. It’s pretty cool. I was very excited about it. My heart rate wasn’t so high either! I get great. No back pain. I will be buying a new pot once I wear these out. I’ll be back to two you how durable they are. I love my shoes! And they’re pretty stylish as well. The casted me $170
I've had time to put some miles on my Cloudmonsters. Updated review. Still quite love the midsole. The outsole shows considerable wear on the forefoot. More than I would expect after 3 weeks almost daily use. The laces kinda' suck. Hard to get a good lock down without putting pressure on the top of my feet. Would much rather have conventional pattern with grommeted eyelets. The tongue NEEDS padding, at least at the top. Still, I am glad I bought them. Cheers, Everyone
Do you more mid or forefoot strike? Mu biggest gripe with on is the rubber, it seems even for the most efficient strikers theres quick rubber wear if used as a daily
@@FootDoctorZach Hi, Zach Jogging up hills, lately. No question, I've given the front some hard use. And, lose form when I tire. Some unintended foot dragging going on. Outsole is worn down to near the midsole foam in lateral areas mid-front. See how it goes from there. Regards, Steve
Former elite + long-time run-specialty outfitter here. Love that someone from the Med realm is entering the RU-vid shoe conversation! Just some vocab thoughts for you moving forward - "Supershoes" and "Plush Rides" are two separate categories. Supershoes are typically a race-specific shoe with a Carbon Fiber plate + Pebax (or similar) foam. Think Vapor/AlphaFly, Endorphin Pro, Asics Metaspeed, Adios Pro, Hyperion Elite, etc. "Plush" rides are typically meant for long, slow miles to keep you healthy. Brooks Glycerin, Saucony Triumph, Hoka Clifton/Bondi, etc. The Cloudmonster is certainly closer than On has ever come to the "plush" category, but for the most part they have focused on the more responsive daily trainer realm, that is firmer than everything aforementioned - think Saucony Ride, Brooks Launch, Hoka Rincon, etc! The cloudmonster is a shoe meant to run long, not necessarily fast. It's made with a very standard EVA that is pretty heavy if we're comparing them to "run-fast" shoes. They have the EchoBoom as their "Super" Shoe.
Just got these!!! Love them. Shocking I got them for work as I stand for long periods of time for a half a day and the other half a day I’m walking around a lot. They have been great!!
Do they work for your particular needs, im looking for something similar as i work standing up and walking 12 to16hrs a day and they seem like a good option, let me know and thanks
@@thecrazyroker69 I work in oral surgery. Work 10 to 13 hours a day. And very comfortable. Took 2 or 3 days of wearing them before they broke in and became comfortable
@@FootDoctorZach That’s legit all I’ve been hearing about them hahaha But I had a chat with the designer behind them (bumped into him in a running store totally randomly) and he was genuinely happy that I was enjoying them this much, probably because people weren’t expecting much tbh
I run I’m older and I have had all brands of high end running shoes and the cloud monster has allowed me to come back strong with no aches no pain no sprains! I will push this shoe to anyone wanting run longer with no shin pain or other
Thanks for the review doc! I am planning to buy my first pair of on running shoes but I just haven't seen any in-depth reviews than your take on this one.. Now at least I know which model to pick up👍
Big ON fan here - I’ve been wearing On Cloudflyers for 4 months now and am super happy. I use them solely for the gym and work (hospital ICU nurse) I use Hoka Bondi’s solely for running 3 miles, 3-4 times/week. This combination of shoes, plus custom orthotic inserts has done wonders to prevent injury. I’m in my late 40,’s and have had bouts of plantar fascitis and trochanter bursitis in the past and just general exhausted legs from long work hours. These shoes and the inserts have helped to prevent those issues from recurring. Any suggestions for good hiking shoes with similar outcomes?
I'm looking to change up shoe's I have pf and a heel spur I'm just curious if these shoe's would be worth it I wear the Hoka one bondi 7 they have been a life saver for me I work 10 to 12 hour days on concrete floors
Love your videos! i'm stuck deciding between this shoe and HOKA Clifton 9 for work. I work in a warehouse for 11 hours a day. Walking an average of 5 miles on concrete, lifting, bending, squatting, etc. so i need a durable, somewhat flexible, and very supportive shoe and breathability would be preferred. suggestions??
I've got about 300km on my pair of these (colour same as video) and I'm really enjoying them. My only complaint is the lacing, which I'm definitely not a huge fan of.
I am a big fan of the ON casual shoe - the ON Cloud. I must have 6-7 pairs now. Great shoe for walking and kicking around. Curious to know how the high performance ON shoes compare with something like a HOKA max cushion shoe and what models in the HOKA line might compare to the CLOUDMONSTER. I have pretty flat feet, so I wear the HOKA ARAHI for the stability and cushioning. How would these match up with those Doc?
@@FootDoctorZach On Cloud 5 are the greatest walk around shoes around imo. I own the ON Cloud 5 Push and they are awesome. You can either use slip on elastic style or they come with normal laces and extra holes for a more snug fit. I believe they also come in wide now. They are by far their best selling shoe and for good reason.
Hi foot Doctor zack you make amazing videos and best reviews of shoes. I want ask you . What shoes with best cushion and support recommend me for a use daily i have knee paint
The reason for knee pain, is many times heel landing. Killing for your knees. Cushioning will not solve this, but make it worse. More cushioning will make you land harder! Try to transit to forefoot or midfoot landing.
Great review, I have the Cloudflyer and Cloudace but find them to hard. Especially for my metatarsal as your foot is on the hard plastic plate under the insoles. Is it better in the Cloudmonster?
It’s better but not “plush” - still plastic under there but the rocker helps a lot - some love it some hate it - I personally thought it felt awesome under the Mets
Those ON shoes arent true to size at all, ive tried several models in store today & imma a size EU 38 & couldnt even put my foot inside. Tried the 39 it was fine but a little tight towards heel. Tried EU 40 & was more relaxed but the kind of relaxed that with usage would get too much. I have plantar fasciitis & they seem like a good fit - got the cloudmonster sensa. Lets see if they work out :)
I just bought my first ON, and my third run, each run is about 3 miles daily, and I LOVE MY ON, I bought the one cloud monster, I can run without any problems or issues with my feet… love ON shoes
I’m throwing away all of my traditional Nike running shoes. 😂 I used to run with a heel to toe roll motion, always had shin splints & ankle injuries. An army guy saw me running on a treadmill & told me to start running landing more on the front of my foot using my calf as a spring. Initially this new form made my calves extremely sore. Once I adapted to the new form of running I no longer got shin splints, & my ankles/arch started to develop more strength as well. Now the issue arises… what kind of shoes are out their that support a forward striking run? Not a lot. 😂 & you will also learn that the founder of Nike actually thought he was so smart he’d re invent who knows how long of human evolution, of humans running on a front striking form using the calf as a spring to propel forward. 😂 you literally have to own these ridiculous heel padded shoes to successfully run with a heel to toe propulsion. 😂 now doesn’t that seem fishy? 🤔 talk about a money scheme. Vivo barefoot are actually the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn as my feet get stronger & stronger. They fit like an absolute foot glove, & truly move with the foot instead of your foot moving then moving the shoe.
I’m constantly on my feet while at work and always feeling walking 3.5 afterwork so I am looking for comfortable shoe and the cloud monster is looking like a really good shoe. Any recommendations
Just found your page. Excitedly I was curious about your take on New Balance Rebel V2 (my absolute favorite) the V3 will be coming out soon along with their Supercomp pacer line. I would love to see your opinion on these!
Any suggestions on an On Cloud model for chronic back pain? It’s time for me (60YO female, small frame and build with high arch) to have a decent daytime walk around shoe. I’m considering Cloudrunner, On Cloud 5 or Cloudmonster. Would love to know your thoughts. TY!
Good shoes aren’t about what “feels” comfortable. It’s about support to your foot bones. Ask a podiatrist. Most shoes that have a sole that bends in half easily don’t offer the bone support your metatarsals, arch, ankle and other bones need (brands like Nike) so cheap to make , it’s all marketing. That’s why Asics and New Balance are still a top recommendation in the podiatrist community.
I buy a new pair of shoes every 6-weeks and have been getting the Hoka’s all last year and I rotated in these CloudMonster shoes and they both have some things I like about both but might be going back to my Hoka’s. The CloudMonster was a little bit disappointing in the wet and was a little more noisy vs the Hoka’s.
Hi. I'm looking around for the best option running shoe. I came across this company and my curiosity was aroused by the nice-looking shoe. I have certain training conditions that my shoe must perform to. Long distance running, stairs, lunges, and jump rope just to name a few. My primary concern is, rolling ankles, hard strides, and poor form that comprises my knees, back and attitude. If anyone has similar needs and feel that this product can perform, give it a like.
Just got these last week and have put about 20 miles on them, including one max effort 5k, a long slow run and a 5 mile zone 2 run. I've worn Hoka Clifton 8s for about a year now. I noticed a significant performance increase immediately and PR'd in the 5k. However, I am noticing some ankle pain and a plantar fasciitis flare-up. I'm a heavier runner (240 pounds), and a midfoot striker who primarily runs on asphalt or concrete. I will try them with custom insoles and phase them in slowly. Maybe that'll fix the issue. If not, they'll function as a race shoe and maybe a speed work shoe but not an everyday trainer. It's a little bit alarming that I'm already getting niggles after such a low volume.
It’s the plate right under foot- they really need an orthotic or something to make them comfortable for heavier strikes- some don’t mind it, some get snake bites with them
5:07 this doesn’t necessarily mean the shoe is giving you consistently lower heart rate at same time and pace of running vs the new balances. The most probable cause of this is probably due to your V02 max slightly increasing. Especially since you had been running with the new balances prior to owning the cloudmonsters. You gave your body time to adapt to better oxygen efficiency and storage by the time you did the test with the QC’s. Again, this is just my educated hypothesis. Now if you waited to do this test at the same time with both shoes then just disregard everything i previously stated. Really cool to see you test and mention it though
Haha I have really tuned in the angle of the camera on these- trust me they don’t look bad on you you’re just comparing yourself to my very well choreographed shot
Great review Zach! I am middle aged, have some pronation and occasional knee pains. Are these stability shoes or at least provides stability to help in pronation and knee issues compared to other shoes in On cloud ? I like comfortable/cushy ride, thought this can tick most of the boxes, please let me know and keep the reviews coming!
They have alot of energy return but stability isn’t their biggest strong suit - the heel counter is shallow and thin plus the profile is more streamlined f
I have a hard time forefoot striking because of a plantarflexion injury on my left side from college tennis- ripped my anterior ankle capsule and and peroneals… I’m more stable mid to rearfoot - my apologies
That’s great looking shoe. But how was the supporting for the arch? I m a 6 ft 85 k flat foot guy. Do you suggest I get this shoe for small run / casual wear?
