Nice review Alex! Some tips add: pros/cons on the screen, far more easier to watch. Thanks again for a nice review!

Agree with everything in this review except to add (as I did in a reply to one comment) that I have a very high cadence and shorter stride, being of petite stature, and they work fine for me. Also, I should add that these are quite stable with the unique design of the midsole and the width of the platform. This is not the case with many of the super-soft max cushion midsoles (think Invincible and at least the first iteration of the NovaBlast) Martha
@AlexFilitti
@AlexFilitti 2 года назад
Spot on! The stability is something I could almost do a standalone video on. So many « hidden » stability features in this shoe. Yet they don’t « force » the footstrike in any way. Also very happy to hear that they work well for high cadence runners - makes them even more interesting I think. Take care, Martha

Sounds like a very positive review indeed. Definitely a shoe I’d like to try out. Probably the first On shoe I’ve ever been interested in. It’ll be interesting to see how it works for someone with a very short stride and a stupidly high cadence.
@AlexFilitti
@AlexFilitti 2 года назад
I'd be very curious to hear how it works for your gait cycle, Andy. I believe it shouldn't be too bad as the clouds really compress easily even without putting too much force into your footstrike. As always, thanks for your comment and support!

I have a naturally high cadence, avg 188 (I’m petite but quite fast probably due to that). I just got this shoe when I went into my favorite running store while visiting San Diego to try on high cushion shoes. For me it blew away the usual suspects because while it’s loaded with cushion, it has so much energy return at the same time. I haven’t put in too many miles yet but it works for me so far at both relaxed paces and when picking up the pace. I land primarily midfoot, but touch down briefly slightly behind on the lateral edge of my foot because I supinate slightly. So I think you just need to try it on. I find the upper very comfortable and roomy in the toe box for my average volume foot. Martha PS. I agree the lacing system could be improved but it’s not a deal breaker.

hi alex! just stumbled upon your channel. would you still recommend this shoe for someone who has the invincible 2s? or are they way too simillar?
@JohnnyG734
@JohnnyG734 2 года назад
Just bought my pair today! Literally every on shoe I've ever tried has been too tight in the midfoot or the foam just had an awkward feel since they used two different types. I actually went to the running shoe store to get some new Skechers Razor Excess 2s, but walked away with these instead despite being heavier lol
@AlexFilitti

Thanks for sharing your purchasing experience, John. Very interesting to hear you went with these over the Excess 2s!

Same story in that I went to the store to try on other high cushion shoes that are current favorites in the running world and walked away with this one.

On has always had the quality and design to make great shoes but the performance was always lacking with the ones I tried. Seems like they' re doing it right now. I' ve been using the Invincible (or sometimes Prime X) now for my easy runs. This might be an alternative, though probably a bit firmer/less bounce and squish? Maybe a comparison video is needed Alex👍
@AlexFilitti
@AlexFilitti 2 года назад
Bounciest is the Invincible for sure. Also the one with the most squish although I'd argue the Cloudmonster compresses more. Prime X is the most efficient out of these and while I agree they work at lower paces, they're probably the only ones that can be taken to HM pace. Thanks for the comment, Robin ;-)

Would it be a good option for long runs (heart rate zone 2)? I have mostly recovered from PF issues and I am a slight pronator. Classical maximalist shoes didn't work for me at all, too hard on my calves (Triumph 18, Bondi, Nike Infinity Run/Magnify being the best out of them). Nike Invincible was too soft, clunky, bad for ankles and PF (i think the foam is too soft so it didn't provide enough cushion). I really liked Saucony Ride 13 for long runs but they are too hard on the PF atm. I currently alternate between Velocity and Mach4 for daily mileage and (used to use) Endorphin Speed for speed workouts. The other remaining options for stack/weight/stability would be the super shoes like Puma Deviate Elite or Endorphin Pro...
@AlexFilitti
@AlexFilitti 2 года назад
Yes these are probably a solid bet. Fairly stable yet cushioned ride. with the 6mm drop the calves should be fine. At least I would give them a go. Craft CTM Ultra is another option you may consider (if you need a higher drop).
@phylosophdotcom
@phylosophdotcom 2 года назад
@@AlexFilitti Agreed, I've been actually thinking about Craft ones. Do you like craft more than on? The other option I've just found out is the Saucony Ride 15 with a higher stack height (vs14), softer foam, and lighter weight!
@silvialand
@silvialand 2 года назад
Thanks for this one! I'd like to know something about the reactivity of the shoe. Would you choose it also for faster units?
@AlexFilitti
@AlexFilitti 2 года назад
It's not super responsive. The foam compresses nicely but doesn't have much energy return. So it doesn't go above endurance pace for me (strides work but on a not so regular basis)

Hi Alex. Loved the review. I do have a question. So I got the shoes at the beginning of March. And can I sue them for everyday use as we and goi g to the gym? I don't typically run but when I went to fleet feel they said that I could use them for the gym or everyday use. But this review makes me believe that they are mainly just for running. Qhat are your thoughts?
@AlexFilitti
@AlexFilitti 2 года назад
Thanks a lot for the nice comment, Karen. I think they can be lifestyle and gym shoes without any issue. They're stable enough for the gym. In my opinion the upper is not snug enough for certain workouts where you'd like to have you feet nicely "attached" to the shoe but they'll work in many instances.
@levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183
@levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183 2 года назад
I agree with Alex that the upper isn’t the most secure in the world but I find the shoes stable nevertheless. And in general, people use running shoes of all stripes in the gym so I wouldn’t worry about trying to define a shoe’s use case.

Good review. My friend in Canada got it a few days ago. He says that they are a bit short? Like Rebel V2?
@AlexFilitti
@AlexFilitti 2 года назад
They're generous volume wise in the forefoot but they're not super long indeed. Unstructured upper reminds a bit the Rebel v2 but the construction is different.

@levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183 2 года назад
I have the Rebel 2 as well as this shoe. I had to size up for the Rebel but not for this one, so I think you just need to try it on. The width and volume in the toe box didn’t require me to size up. FYI I have an average volume foot.

Alex thank you for the very nice video once again! My question is how can we call these shoes maximal with only 29 mm at the hill? The Nike streakfly at the hill has 32 and it is not a maximal shoe. Dos the company on cloud measure the stack high with a different way compared to others ? Thanks a lot!
@AlexFilitti
@AlexFilitti 2 года назад
Very good question! There is no proper definition of maximalist shoes that's a good point. I measured it around 31mm and indeed companies have different ways of measuring stack height. Some do it with the sockliner, some without, and so on. This one "feels" maximalist and that's I think the best categorization criterion
@levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183
@levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183 2 года назад
My answer is that the unique design of the midsole makes it run very cushioned. It’s not a simple matter of stack height but how it functions and its use case for each individual runner. I just picked this up and it’s by far my most cushioned shoe. I’ve never found a “max cushion” shoe I’ve loved because I don’t like super soft midsoles that sap energy and make me feel like they’re dragging me down (the marshmallow-like midsoles). Martha

Bigger clouds indeed. The Cloudstratus 2 started to pave the way for what the Monster brings. More cushion, more compression, still that stable and comfortable ride. @iakona23
@iakona23 2 года назад
I enjoyed my Cloudstratus V2 but I think that I finally wore it out after running in it every day and putting over 500 miles on it. What would be the difference between the Cloudstratus V2 and the Cloud Monster, and is there a big difference or are both shoes fairly similar? Also, how do you compare the Cloud Monster to the ASICS Novablast 2, and which of those would you prefer?
@AlexFilitti
@AlexFilitti 2 года назад
Very good question. Novablast 2 has a more comfortable upper (one of the comfiest out there imho) and the foam is bouncier. The Cloudmonster works better for my stride with that lower drop and while not as soft as the Novablast, it has a level of cushion that is very enjoyable too. I would pick the Novablast simply because it's a little bit more versatile (the Monster lacks a bit of responsiveness at higher paces). But if considering them for easy days only: Monster. Hope this helps

@AlexFilitti

Sorry for the confusion Mark, when I'm referring to high cadence runners, this doesn't include me. I have a fairly low cadence (ranging from 170 for easy stuff up to 184 for intervals). More stable, less energy return, easier to keep under control. Lighter and less structured upper (better imho especially for your wider feet).
@levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183

I found the Invincible upper to be distracting, especially the over-engineered (IMO) heel/ankle collar. The upper material is definitely going to be less warm as well.

You're probably right if we look at it in absolute terms. But comparing it to the likes of Novablast or Invincible that are in the 160-180 range, this has good value because it's likely going to be more durable.
