On markets the Cloudstratus as a max cushion shoe. That's not exactly what I experienced, but that doesn't mean it's a bad shoe. I've now run 100 miles in the Cloudstratus, and these are my thoughts.

I love how the majority of the negative comments are from people that have literally never worn an On, but just regurgitate whatever they see other people see online.

I put about 450km into mine! The lockdown is consistently tricky, but it was still one of my favourite shoes to do daily runs and long runs in it. I’ve gone back to my Mach 4 for long runs. I agree with everything you’ve said!

I think On need to consider looking into new foams. Everything else about the shoe is great, lovely upper, lacing etc, definitely premium in that regard. However, the Helion foam is, pushing the boundaries of what I think most people would consider foam to be, in regards to a running shoe at least. I think a softer layer of the "clouds" (sorry On), would have benefitted this shoe a lot, and provided more of the cushioning that a lot of people would have been looking for in this shoe. I'll try out the Cloudmonster and some of their future releases. Fingers crossed they hit out with some bangers! 🤞🥁

Good review:)) I would suggest if you think of On's shoe, consider it as a walking, styling shoe rather than a running shoe. Doing some fast walking within 8-10km on it brings zero load to me, let me complete work out without any discomfort :) Have run n walk on a pair of On cloud flyer. Absolutely a fan of lightweight shoe.Besides, their shoes looks smart, coming with clean vibrant colours rather than black grey white, without strange contrasting colors can be frequently found on running brands i.e. Brooks, Asics.

I’m updating my comment for this video because I was just in my favorite San Diego running store, Milestone, to try on cushioned shoes for long runs. I’ve been using my race shoe (Endo Speeds) for my very long runs and they wear out too quickly in one area of the outsole. I tried on the various NB, ASICS and other popular max cushion shoes and then was presented with the ON Cloudmonster which just arrived. It blew the others out of the water for me! I just did an 18 mi long run this morning and my legs were barking but as soon as I put on this shoe I actually wanted to run. It has a great combination of max cushion and bouncy responsiveness. Alex (one of the great staff there) said he never looked twice at ON shoes until he tried this one and he loved it instantly. I bought it on the spot. It may be marathon race-worthy but at the very least I hope it fills my LR shoe gap. It doesn’t feel soft in the sinking-in way but it feels very cushy; it’s also very stable despite a generous stack height (it’s so new I can’t find all the specs). Yet, it’s only 8 oz. No extra weight in plush stuff in the upper but for me it’s perfectly comfortable. It has plenty of volume in the toe box so should work for wider feet but I had no trouble locking down on my average width feet. I think ON finally has a winner for distance running. Martha

It’s ironic that review after review expresses the wish for a softer ride and it’s a foregone conclusion the company has received similar input. Either they’re not listening or their dedicated base (perhaps primarily regional) like the shoes as they are. I still like the ON Cloud (only) as a travel shoe because of the slip-on laces, walking comfort and I did once run a 5K in it and it was just fine for that. That model has obviously been a success as a casual shoe.

It might not be as cushioned as other max-cushion shoes like the Hoka Bondi 7 but I will say I feel like it has a lot better energy return than the Bondi 7, for example, which I appreciate. I feel like this shoe helps me find a balance between maintaining good form and still having decent cushioning whereas with the Bondi 7 my cadence would decrease and my form would deteriorate more easily.

They seem to get better with a bit of pace, but then it gets confusing. If that’s what it’s for, then why not make it lighter? And why do they still call it a max cushion shoe?

@@kofuzi yeah I wouldn't call them a max cushion shoe nothing like my pair of Hoka arahi 5. I can't speak for the whole of Europe as I'm only from the UK but I would say that we may prefer a tighter fit, but that may just be me. Great videos, I'd love to go and run along the Chicago waterfront.

I run on asphalt and some hard packed gravel. I'm sure it's happened at least once or twice, but I can't think of the last time I had to pick out a rock. I think that would change if I were running on the dirt roads over by my in-laws

SO i thing ON gets a really common misconnection, for me the cloudstatus is really good daily trainner with hints of stability and guidance. ON's are intended to be more natural feeling and minimal. Fits and feels very similarly too Mizuno. The CloudMonster is in my opinion is the natural version or at least more cushioned and less structured. I do think you nailed it on the head, the cloud status is really best for cruising miles (medium long runs, daily runs or anything that is around a consist pace). I also found the stablity features in this really good for people that want a more natural ride, with still some guidance. Really inlines with the endorphin shift series

I have bought i think it was 2nd gen of cloudflow. I make it my daily trainer and 1 day i bought ot for marathon. And it fail me badly. It didnt deliver the very best. Make my foot feel much pain because of the foam is too stiff. Now the shoe clock almost 500km and already retired it. I think it was a mistake buy for me to run for marathon but for daily trainer its a great shoe

I honestly don’t understand the complaints about On shoes being too firm as I own several different pairs of On and like them and don’t find them particularly firm, but that said I also like to sleep on an extra-firm mattress compared to most people, so maybe it’s a matter of personal preference.

No doubt on cloud shoe is one of the best design out there but the cushioning experience is terrible.Dense & have an old school running shoe type vibe to it.You can see the midsole almost not compress when you take a step while running.My dad love this shoe on his run because it remind him of his old racing flat running shoe but for me its too dense.You must either running fast or weight a lot to compress those midsole
@centipede9292

@cgazlan

Ultimately, it's the midsole that will be doing the lot of the protection for the foot, doesn't matter how comfortable the upper was. Thanks for the review. As always I watched it anyway even though the shoes are not for me.

I really like these and they are my daily trainer. I LOVE the midsole, it is about perfect for me. Everyone says On stuff is too firm...but not everyone wants a super soft shoe (looking at you Invincible, damn that shoe is horrible). Although while I like the look of the upper, i don't love the fit, good but nnot gret, prefer the old stratus upper. But otherwise, I think its a really good shoe and its the midsole that makes it.

Why do company's put the most cushion in the heel if some people don't use the heal to run?
@levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183
@levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183 2 года назад
The vast majority of runners either heel strike or at least touch down before fully striking landing midfoot to forefoot, and even the pros do so when they’re tired. I was told this by a shoe expert who has consulted for a number of the big brands. And where people initially touch down bears much more impact than the area of full landing.
@levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183

Also, if a shoe has a significant drop (typically 10 mm) it’s more logical to put the higher stack in the rear instead of the forefoot or midfoot, yes?

Haven't personally tried any oncloud shoes over the years that weren't horribly firm, uncomfortable, and overpriced. Have never read/watched reviews of any oncloud shoes that said anything different. Every oncloud review I have ever seen has been negative and said the shoe was too firm. In my opinion oncloud is the most overrated, overpriced, and overly firm and uncomfortable shoe brand out there. Especially since it references clouds in the name and model. Should be called the Onbricks cement, or the onpavement clunker/walletdrainer. Not trying to be overly harsh about this brand, just giving my honest opinion based on the shoes I have tried, and the reviews of them I have seen. If they work for you, and you feel the need to spend $160-$200 on running shoes like this, then great. From my perspective, this is a European brand with a gimmick that doesn't seem to work, and they are trying to trick people into thinking it's quality and high tech by attaching a high price tag to them. They are hoping enough people will think "well they are $180 shoes, so they must be good"! No, I don't think so oncloud.

certainly my biggest disappointment in terms of shoes! received 3 days ago, finally last night I was able to try it on a 20 km run; at the beginning the small rebound it provides is a bit surprising, there was poor stability from the start! then the brain must adapt quickly because our stride changes, because of the cloud effect which unfortunately is too pronounced!! that is to say, let me explain: we are sinking too much! and the plate which is in the sole cannot make up for this lack of propulsion which is non-existent! it destroyed my legs, I really struggled to complete this 20km. Very disappointed !! suddenly the pair goes back to the supplier! in summary the person who worked on this project, worked only on the cushioning and the originality of a new effect which will scare away the real competitors, I was exhausted after 5km...it is true that 'it cushions enormously... it should be redirected to the medical sector, for people in rehabilitation with overweight, who have to walk again see running... we are currently entering the world of new running shoes, with new materials, shoes that should remind us how fast we would run when we were young at low tide! remember how the sand under our heel gave us incredible speed and there you go! with the Cloud we are in soft sand! For me it is a total failure!
