Wow, I just gained a new respect for Moe Howard!!! He had to be in tremendous pain & to keep going even for a little bit just shows what a professional he really was!!! Thanks Rick for bringing this to light!!! 👍👍🙂

I broke two ribs on my left side three times (car accident, explosion and fall down stairs). All three times it knocked the wind out of me and although I do have a high tolerance to pain, each time I laid there a moment to "collect my thoughts." That Moe was able to get right back up and keep filming, he's a tougher guy than I am.

Excellent background story on Moe's injury, Rick! I don't know if his injury was the reason, but in future episodes it appears that the Stooges had doubles for most of their pratfalls. However, in 3 Little Pigskins (1934) , Moe insisted on stunt doubles and a good thing that he did as 2 of the 3 doubles suffered injuries during a scene. Interesting to note also that 3 Little Pigskins was filmed nearly 8 months earlier than Moe's broken ribs in Pardon My Scotch.

I am a fan of The Three Stooges (primarily the Moe Howard, Larry Fine & Curly Howard configuration) in their classic film shorts. Moe Howard obviously was a real trooper to complete a scene when he was so severely injured. I read his autobiography and he wrote about how Columbia Pictures provided such a small tight budget that none of the Stooges could afford to get sick or injured.

I had a accident that bruised the majority of the ribs on one side of my body, I was surprised how painful it was. (Only thing I could compare it to was accidentally cracking nuts at Xmas time and catching your finger in the nut cracker) Breathing in and breathing out were a thing of the past, I could only take extremely shallow breaths. I had heard that messed up ribs could possibly cause pneumonia but didn't understand how. After not being able to draw a half way decent breath I had a much clearer picture.

You left this comment year ago and might not remember what you had said but yeah Larry was hurt few times; I can’t remember the short name but there is scene where someone throws a ink pen at him, supposed to not hurt but actually penetrated enough to hurt.

Great information.. hard to tell when those actors were actually hurt until someone points it out..

Oh how the mighty have fallen! Glad he was able to survive that accident or the headlines would’ve read; “No Moe no mo’. “

This short was just shown on METV. As I watched it...I thought..."that looked a little to real". Now you have just proved it. Again...thank you for sharing it. While you watch a movie or tv episode...you get so wrapped up in the plot...you can miss things...so thank goodness for DVD!!! Side note; I took Television class back in high school...so when I watch anything, I think of where the camera is...where the boom mike is...always thinking of behind the scenes...and I love "picking" apart these movies and tv episodes!!! 😂

Wow! I remember that scene and just assumed it was a stunt man taking the fall. I had no idea it was actually him and that he was hurt. Took a lot of willpower to go ahead with the shot I’m sure.

I remember years ago I fell on my side like that on solid ice at work in the parking lot. The pain was very intense. But the worst part about that was I asked my coworkers not to make me laugh. Well, that didn't work out so well, those bastards! It took several weeks to recover from that. Moe was as tough as he looked!

Hats off to Moe! I have tried several times to find any info on that huge "Alta" circular saw that Curly uses. My searches have all come up empty.
