On the Air Force base, she leads the congregation. In her LDS ward, she sits in the pews.

Latter-day Saint Jenna Carson, who became the first member ever to serve as a chaplain in the federal prison system, was a student at Harvard Divinity School when, she said, God called her to become a military chaplain.
That was 2015. And although Carson did not yet know it, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints did not at that time grant women the all-important endorsement required by the Defense Department. Female Latter-day Saints could obtain endorsements to serve as chaplains in hospitals, education, hospice care and prisons - but not, it turned out, the military.
Nevertheless, the feeling persisted. And so did she. Setbacks followed, but, in 2021, she won Salt Lake City’s go-ahead.
The next year, she was on her way to boot camp. Two years into being an Air Force chaplain, Carson has more than a little to say about what it’s like to be a female spiritual authority operating if not within the LDS Church, then with its approval.

As a spouse of a 30 year military soldier, I am loving this discussion today. One sad fact about LDS military chaplains is that they are not respected for their religious beliefs in the military because the majority of other Chaplains do not think they are really Christian. I think this Chaplain has to dance on a line bc when you asked if she thought that women should get the Priesthood, I would bet she answers it one way in the privacy of her Chaplain office with other military chaplains and how she needs to answer it and retain her ecclesiastical endorsement from the church. I hope she stays on AD because she sounds like a wonderful woman.

The first time I watched the video I watched it at 2x speed and the second one sounded higher. When I watched it back at normal speed the first one sounded higher

Is the highest authority in the sacrament/communion meeting receiving first the bread and water a doctrine or a policy or a tradition?
@squeakhawk01

Yes. The presiding authority in that meeting gets the Sacrament first. Then the other priesthood members disperse from the table where the sacrament is prepared and starts distributing it to the rest of the congregation.

@@squeakhawk01You didn’t answer the question. Is that cultural or doctrinal?

@@DaisyPoodle I'm sorry, you are absolutely correct. I missed that. The answer is that it is policy. Section 18.9.4.6 of the General Handbook says: "After the prayer, priesthood holders reverently pass the bread to the members. The presiding leader receives it first, after which there is no set order. Once a tray is handed to members, they may pass it to one another."

Wonderful interview! It's nice to see how valuable spiritual women can be outside an oppressive patriarchal religion.

It's not an oppressive patriarchal religion. The Christianity itself is a slightly patriarchal religion.

This is so dumb…. All she cares about is “power” and HER authority.
