This week we go through a Coleman 335. These were only released in Canada, so generally you'll have to buy one from there to own one. They're really bright lanterns and use a #99 mantle...and they definitely drive them to full brightness. Come along as we go through how it works.

Your content helped me restore my fathers 335 Coleman lantern. He would use it at my cabin when I was a kid of which I have very fond memories. He passed suddenly 11 years ago and I miss him every day. I am so happy to now have his lantern to use when I take my daughter, and has a reminder of him. THANK YOU.

Jeff, I'm so happy I could help you out! This is really why I do it...to help educate folks and give them the confidence that they can get their lanterns working again. Great to hear it's back in service and making new memories with your daughter. :)

Thanks! It's actually an old Navy desk that my Dad picked up as military surplus many years ago and it was handed down to me. Very solid desk!

Love the 335's. I've rebuilt a couple with good success. I run a peerless 24a on them and it's easily the brightest lantern I own. The G3 generators are indeed hard to find, even up here in Canada. Enjoyed the video. Thanks.

The 335 or 321 series is my go-to lantern when I'm travelling. The size of a 200a (roughly) but light output that is greater than a 220/228 series. It's pretty amazing!

I have a 335. It's a great lantern. Low maintenance.

335s are great. Tremendous amount of light out of them, and very easy to maintain.

I found out the hard way that the founts are lined with some kind of rust inhibitor. The internet said I could us carb. cleaner to clean the check valve. The internet also said a water and citric acid solution would remove varnish from inside the tank. One of those 2 stripped away the protective coating. It's a huge mess in there now and I'm trying to get it out.

I think the 285 and the 335 use the same size globe.

I just picked up a 335,made in 1970 which I believe was about the first year they were made. it's not in mint shape but seems to work well. Unfortunately the glass was broke and new replacements all have Made In China stamped on them, even the Coleman ones. Ironic as I live in Canada where they were made. Sure hate to put a piece of Chinese crap on this old classic Canadian beauty. I might have to for now just so I can use it while I hunt for an original. Great vid, very informative. Just subscribed. Cheers frim Canada

Hi Thom and thanks for the kind words. Have you tried oldcolemanparts.com? I see an amber and a petromax globe that don't have the made in china bit on them. I also have heard some other people have had success in removing the label. I get where you're coming from, I don't want that on mine either!

Why did you wait for a spit when you cracked the fuel?
@gasunderpressure9131
@gasunderpressure9131 2 года назад
Great question. Until you hear the "spit" all that is coming out is air being forced out of the generator. It will (obviously) not light. Waiting for the spit, gets the generator full of fuel, and you don't have to stand there with a lit match/lighter waiting for it to happen. Shutting it off after the spit, then lighting the match/lighter gives that fuel a chance to dissipate, so then when you put the match/lighter in there and crack the valve again, you'll get an instant light with a minimum of WHOOMPH. Thanks for the call out, I'll have to mention on future videos why I do that.

I'm looking to have my childhood 335 refurbished. Who can I contact?
@gasunderpressure9131
@gasunderpressure9131 3 года назад
Well, I suppose that depends if you want to do it yourself or have someone else do it. Colemancollectorsforum.com is a great place to get help on how to refurb a lantern. If you don't want to do it, there are people there you can ask to do a refurb. Coleman may be able to do it for you, not sure.
