Every summer for the past 27 years I think to myself, "why am I doing this?". It's hell on the body. You have to have a strong mind in order to endure this kind of thing. Water alone doesn't cut it. Electrolytes, pickle juice, Biolytes, anything to replenish the lost sodium and minerals. You also have to take care of yourself after you get home. Getting buzzed after work will catch up with you. I run circles around 20 something year old guys that party when they get off work. Feed your body treat it right and you'll be okay. Stay safe out there my AC brethren.

The heat can be so intense that you can't even think straight. Easy to make a mistake and even hurt yourself

Lived on the Texas Gulf Coast 8 miles from the beach. over 90 degrees, 60 to 80 percent dewpoint. I lost 10 to 15 pounds everyday in the attics doing residential installs and service. 4 , 2 litter bottles of soda got me thru

Good video. I do mainly RTUs and this time of year when I take a panel off I make sure to set it up somewhere. I don’t leave them laying flight. I think sometimes you could fry an egg on them. Go take a showers, lol

The Shirelles Mama said there’d be days like this. I do mostly Automotive and Heavy Truck Ac and Reefer Trailers., and I work outside about 60%0f the time, but that nothing working on HVAC in a hot attic, or outside in the North Carolina heat. Interesting channel!

I worked 2 years in Death Valley National Park as hvac tech. 121 degrees in the shade. I hadeto put my tools in a bucket of water they got so hot. I really enjoyed it, but wife got tired of the heat and desert. 110 degrees at night.

When I was young 25 30 years old I felt it was a challenge and honor to work in difficult environments , the heat, humidity, rain and cold and get the job done. Now at 60 not so much. I question my sanity and why I ever got into the trade. there are more bad days then good now

When it’s hot and the work is grueling I tell the young guys it’s a character building day embrace it! I also tellum they’ve been graced with the ability to do this work. Many come out of expensive tech schools come to work with the best tools but can’t cut it on the field. I also explain all that screwing up in high school won’t bite them in the ass if they make it in the trade. They’ll be able to live a pretty good life buying a house and supporting their family.

No sir I don't do attics that are above 100F after 12 pm and I start as early as possible. I will do 7-12 and if it takes longer than that which let's be honest it really shouldn't take that long most Furnace/Air Handler replacements should take 2-3 hours but if it does I will come back at 7 am the next day to finish up. If the customer has an issue with that they can call another company and let their techs get heatstroke. You have to take care of you first and foremost.

I don’t like hot days like that. The cold days where it hurts to breathe are worse.

The older I get the more I find I can’t take the extremes! Having goals are a good way to push though most anything. Good subject!

It helps if you shave your beard and head bald.. I definitely couldn't sport that winter beard in the summer here in Oklahoma. lol.. Also, what I do is pour water on my head, face and neck about every 15 minutes. You're already dripping sweat, so you might as well be cool and wet... rather than just wet
@calholli

It is good to have goals.. especially as a guide for where you put your money and planning ahead correctly.. but you're better off finding efficiencies that make things easier or faster; finding ways to keep cool, like bringing shade with you and pouring water on your arms and head ect.. In other words, being process oriented rather than just goal oriented. Finding solutions to your problems rather than just suffering through them; which is not always easy. But you have to keep your mind open to other ways of doing things sometimes. For example, I rigged up an air conditioned "suit" to wear when I had to work in hot attics.. Enjoy the process and the goals will follow

Love the short toolbox talks. Yes there are days, when the universe is against you. Run put of gas while welding the last joint of the day.

Thanks, Zack! Everyone has been there. This trade can be tough. I would argue the toughest. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

I had one today. 19 years of install and I’m just dying today, the attic was so damn hot and I’m behind, calls, installs just wearing me down. Should I hire, just retire, or stick with it. Only 46 but I feel 80 last few months.

What is the most hours you have worked in one week or one day. I put in 121 hours on week being on call one time and worked 78 hours straight, no breakes except to stop to eat once. We had 15 , 75 ton 06D compressors go single phase on a surgical department . All 15 replaced in 78 hours. Just 5 guys. Went home and sleep 18 hours stright.

Most people have no idea what it takes to do this job. It takes true grid to be in the hvac trade. I hear the cubical rats complaining about it being 74 degrees inside and threatening to go home if the hvac is not fixed. Makes me work a little slower.
