I think the oldest brand i seen was either a Mint Green "RHEEM" rectangle unit, or a sears brand unit... I think the Sears was 40 or 50yr old.... But i have also seen (2) of those Trane Packaged setups that were 30yr old, the ones with the fan turned upside down, weird deal... To look at them, their designs are beat by todays "DESIGNS" and overall quality, but something was a difference in these units lasting so long, maybe the material of the metals? Used during those decades? But i really think the "RHEEM/RUUD" brand now is going to be the overall longest lasting design of the past 5-10yr stuff, but only time will tell i suppose... The composite bases wont rust, which is a "UPGRADE" and they're built really solid, easy to clean, good space.. Not happy about the 8mm or small tube change now... I think if they would come out with a single component refrigerant with R-22 like pressures and slopes that these units would do well with and last like yesteryear's units.. Anytime you make a smaller tube thinner wall setup with higher pressures, it's a (RECIPE FOR DISASTER) common sense tells you that and heck, looking at the video i made last year or so with changing out 6 or 7 Goodman small tube condensers that was 10yr old range in a matter of a month will tell ya something isn't right there! Hope you guys had a great 4th of July.. Love ya bro's! Adam aka ICONALAGABAGATAGA :)
I’m glad you made this video, I have been doing HVAC for many years and opened my own business years ago and it has done very well for my family and I over the years, but recently I got diagnosed with some pretty serious health issues and it has put me in a difficult situation.. after doing HVAC service for years I feel like that’s what I Need to do no matter how difficult it has become. ..maybe It’s time for me to start looking into other options.
What a bunch of crap from the industry, we already swapped out refrigerant to save the planet now you're telling us we need to swap out again. Why don't we just go back to R-22 and quit ripping the consumer off. The planet will be fine, with all the natural disasters who do you think is really in charge?
Those Rheem rectangles are the last men standing around my area. Every now and then I’ll come up on an old Trane but hands down the Rheem square boy is the most common unit from the 80s-90s I encounter still.
The Tech that came out to check my system was not that familiar with low voltage circuits.. cost me $190 for nothing. The system was still not running after 3 hours of his time. Same company sent another Tech, problem was, short in a low voltage wire, $350.00. Time, new board, new relay.
Hmmm having this problem with a system that was installed 2 years ago. Return temp was 84 deg. And return is in an attic crawl space. I was thinking leakage into return but now I have other ideas. Thanks so much for what you do much appreciated.
Anyone know where the AC blower motor is on a trane xl 1400 variable speed, roof top unit? My AC is not blowing air through the vents. Any help will be appreciated and one forward for you. Thanks
old 2.5 ton whirlpool r-22 running Copeland reciprocal compressor with old school 2 blade fan still runs well. bought the house in 1997 and the unit was 20 years old at the time. Still runs great, but not efficient and A- coils freeze up if too much traffic in and out during summer.
It was recently pointed out to me that when they went from R22 to 410A, they created 407C to substitute for R22 by just taking 410A and blending it with 134a to lower the pressures to bring it in range with R22 equipment 🤯🤯
Lived on the Texas Gulf Coast 8 miles from the beach. over 90 degrees, 60 to 80 percent dewpoint. I lost 10 to 15 pounds everyday in the attics doing residential installs and service. 4 , 2 litter bottles of soda got me thru
When I was young 25 30 years old I felt it was a challenge and honor to work in difficult environments , the heat, humidity, rain and cold and get the job done. Now at 60 not so much. I question my sanity and why I ever got into the trade. there are more bad days then good now
I worked 2 years in Death Valley National Park as hvac tech. 121 degrees in the shade. I hadeto put my tools in a bucket of water they got so hot. I really enjoyed it, but wife got tired of the heat and desert. 110 degrees at night.
