On the origins of Christianity

In Defence of Marxism

What does 25 December have to do with the birth of Jesus Christ? As it turns out, nothing. But the official early history of Christianity has always contained more fiction than fact. At a meeting in London, Alan Woods offers a historical materialist analysis of the origins of Christianity, demonstrating how a revolutionary movement was eventually co-opted and corrupted by the ruling class of its day, and turned into an instrument of reaction.
As Marxists, we are fighting for a better life and goodwill between all men: not in heaven, but here on earth. This can only be accomplished through revolution. We apologise for the first few minutes of this talk being cut off.

We all know Karl Marx is the real Santa. Santa is dressed in red and shares gifts to all the kids in the world. The symbolism is so clear. May your yuletide be gay.

I Desagree, he has nothing to do with saint Nicolai, the patron of Christmas. Symbolism is about interpretation, and Mr. Marx doesn`t want to know what i think or you think, the focus is pure social and material pratice of our daily life. It´s the essence of what we do and not to do, cause everything is already done by nature, nature is the place where everything is independent of human laws, he sees life as pure mecanism of our organic body and so. Methaphysics is for dogmatic people, no changes, just visions of our external life.

I've met Alan Woods and respect him as a revolutionary and a theorist. He has a few things from a historical perspective. Especially when he gets to Flavius Josephus. The common historical understanding of the references of Josephus talking about Jesus is not that they are *entirely* a fabrication. The usual interpretation of secular scholars is that the original said that Jesus was *called* the Christ, and that this had been embellished by later scribes.

Indeed, and there was the other inaccuracy of referring to the 'Book Of Revelation' as the first book (which it isn't; it's probably the last one). Otherwise a good Marxist analysis of /intro to the phenomenon 'Christianity').

When nations conquered new lands &/or introduced new religions to a culture, they often assimilated with the culture by adopting local customs and blending the old with the new. Thus, the people could more easily adopt Christianity into their culture by celebrating Christmas and Easter on the same day as, (and in place of), pagan holidays.

The Gospel of Mark is generally considered the first of the four gospels written, dated to the early 70s CE (in the aftermath of the Jewish rebellion against Rome that saw the destruction of the Temple). Matthew is the second, Luke the third (Luke and Matthew probably used a common source known as Q), and John the last. The gospel of John was written around year 100 CE (John's gospel features of the most Antisemitism). The Book of Revelation was not the earliest written book of the New Testament. The authentic letters of Paul (there's some debate over which ones were written by him) came decades before it...interesting overall lecture

Jesus probably wasn't even the first Communist. He probably ran into a band of Bedouins that had Communistic traits when he went out to the desert. My guess is there have always been Communists per se. That was what the earliest humans were and as human society began forming states, there were small bands of humans that refused to be corrupted and they retained their original ways. Jesus must have run into some of them and it blew his mind and he had to come back from the desert and spread the word.

´´blew hi mind`` expansional consciousness, Spirituality! It´s the weapon against human laws. We are trying to follow all the rule of God. These can`t be criticized by an ordinary person, but for an known people if these are the ones who are chaging Earth`s destiny.

In parts of Poland it’s baby Jesus not St Claus who brings gifts on evening of 24th December .

I mean, it makes more sense bc a baby can fit in the chimney, but how would Jesus get on the roof?
