The engine at 6:02 seems to ‘tap’ more louder and prominent than the others. What would cause this other than wrongly adjusted tappets? I have the same noise, like tappets but noise is more prominent. Tappets are all adjusted correctly .
Firstly most people who say to me they have adjusted the clearances and they are right, intimate usually not correct. If they are correct, and everything is standard, then you have wear in the system which needs to be removed. This could be pitted followers, excess wear in the rocker shaft, and bushings, and incorrect rocker pad geometry. Using modern cams with higher acceleration rates can also add to the noise.
To me, the SW8 would be my choice for a really fast weekend warrior. Do you enjoy it? As I drive my Mini daily I currently stick to one better suited for my application.
