Honestly, Bailey was kind of bad when she started but she actually got better as the show progressed, which is not a lot to say for other performers. For someone with no experience whatsoever before her debut, she's actually really good.
She was really off-key frequently and her vowel shapes were often closed. She also did not have solid breath control, which is the core for singing. Not on par with other Broadway singers. Her acting wasn't stellar either. It was okay, but if I paid that much money for a Broadway show and she was the lead, I would be very disappointed. She is a really great dancer. I will give her that. Also, people are allowed to have their own opinion. :)
I know it's kinda mean but it also sucks when you pay $100 + to go see a broadway show and the lead is off key like half of the time. So I understand why people are hating on her.
Going to New York just to see one of your favorite broadway shows, and the lead of the show is singing in the complete wrong key more than half of the songs, and you know damn well that Autumn shouldve won and would've done so much better than Bailey, it sucks
in my opinion bailey is cheesy but precious and i love her everyone is ripping on her but she puts so much effort and so much of her own personality into it
I actually liked Bailey! I think she fit the role really well. Laura of course is the best, but I loved how Bailey sounded more immature and more like what Elle Woods would sound like.
@@giabarrone7422 I mean my interpretation of the character she started very immature and childish because she got babied a lot because nobody thought she was smart for majority of her life. She obviously had that character development to become the woman she was at the end of the musical, but in the beginning she was definitely not mature in my eyes.
Was she the youngest Elle? Wow. It's also impressive if that was her first grand musical experience, which I don't really know but... I think she worked really hard and did her best on that super demanding role
Memé Lauren Zakrin was the youngest Elle. Even on tour (which opened just 6 months after Bailey replaced Laura) Lauren is two years younger than Bailey. Lauren was Standby to Becky Gulsvig, but Becky injured her ankle backstage, and was out of the show for almost six months. Laura Bell Bundy “emergency replaced” Becky, but did a total of 36 performances. Lauren did all over for almost six months. Rhiannon also had two performances as Elle because she was the other Elle cover.
@@kylekrichbaum2392 You're right, I had forgotten about Lauren! Ahh, she's great!! I really like her voice. And... how did these women do it, honestly... it's amazing to me that they could handle it all without going a bit crazy... I mean, playing an experienced lead character, with all the non-stop energy it required show after show, plus all the side effects in reality of being out there, often exposed, and of being successful women. And in this case, added to it all, many people criticized the show before even watching it. So, they managed all that... while being very young, really!! That's incredible
Honestly i think bailey did great when people compare her to Laura bell bundy who has done many musicals and is older than bailey it makes me mad like I get no one can beat the OBC but she’s new the the Broadway scene and it’s a really demanding role so give her a break
The thing is, Broadway is the TOP. No matter the age, It's not an excuse, it's a career, and a show which is really expensive. Well, the fact that it was cancelled after three months says it all 😅
One of the problems with making the “search for the next Elle Woods” into a reality show competition is that it really sends unwarranted hate to all participants. You wanted another girl to win? sure, that’s fine, but going out of your way to comment that on every video about bailey is something uncalled for sometimes
Ngl I've been OBSESSED with this musical since finding it. I've not even watched the movie but I don't even want to. THIS is the correct way to experience this story. And After my obsession I found the reality show and my god was it close by I think they chose correctly. What a banging performance I'm so Happy for Bailey. Like it's been a million years but What an amazing effort this show is to perform.
it’s been a year since you have commented on this, have you watched the movie yet? it’s very good, it’s a little different from the musical but i think both versions are very good.
@@reigningastrid339 Not yet! I always just watch the musical. But maybe I'll give it a try some day. I've had ppl talk about it and spoil it so I don't even dare waste my time on it but maybe I'll get a beer and set aside time to someday lol
@wyrmrealmvids8644 please watch the movie!!😢 You get to see the original Elle creation in the form of the adorable Reese Witherspoon! Seeing the movie and the musical is such a brilliant full circle treat.
She was so good when I saw her! And it seems that if you dream big you can get where you are! I love her southern accent and she reminds me of a teacher thats like that
If anyone is wonder where she is now we’ll she is now a mom and she named her daughter Elle🥺 and she’s also now a hairdresser and OMG her hair is amazing LOL
i loved bailey from the beginning of the reality show she blew me away and i hate that all these ppl are ripping off her and she followed laura really well.
i dont think they could have chosen anyone better to take lauras place after she left! bailey is fantastic, and embodies laura so well! of course laura cant be beat, but bailey is an amazing elle woods!!
I absolutely loved Bailey as Elle! She’s the only one who I really felt embodied Elle’s personality and character - even compared to the original Elle tbh
@@josiemac7807 i think lauren actually got to play elle as an understudy somewhere in a traveling cast a few years later. i’m not really sure but i know she definitely played elle at some point
She's from Anderson South Carolina absolutely love her I'm from Rock Hill South Carolina but she definitely has that South Carolina accent that I don't have because my parents were not born here it's amazing how she does such a good job hiding that accent during the musical
I think the one thing that bothers me about Bailey as Elle is the complete lack of connection she has with ANYONE ELSE in that cast, any video I see of her performing with Christian onstage, they have little to no chemistry onstage at ALL. It’s almost as if she was trying to overshadow everyone to such a huge extent that she completely forgot about the character and wanted it to be the Bailey show. When she says “I don’t have to act as Elle, I just am.” And that sentence just pisses me off because if you think you don’t have to act to fit a role, you don’t fit that role. Sure her voice may not be as strong but that can be fix. What can’t be fixed is a selfish mindset onstage. I hope she learns to throw that mindset out the window.
Yeah, this is what rubs me the wrong way. You can practice the singing or dancing, but if you don't get the reason behind your character's actions and their complexity (even though this is a light-hearted musical, it's all still there) then what's the point? It seems to me that Bailey just saw Elle as a fun, girly character and didn't focus much on the character development and transformation she has to go through. Kinda ironic since the whole show is about how there's so much beneath the surface.
Autumn should have won by far, i’m so shook. You have this young 20 year old girl that can dance well and looks the part but has an average singing voice and acting abilities who hasn’t gone through the hardships of trying to break into the industry. Meanwhile you got Autumn who’s not a great dancer but has a incredible voice and makes solid and believable acting choices. Let’s be real, if she wasn’t 28 she would have got the part which is such a shame for someone so talented that has been trying to break into the business for a much longer time be pushed to the side because of her age. I’m just glad that Lauren toured as El on the national tour, she rocked it too!
Marlin Purssell the funny thing is that Laura was actually a year younger than autumn when she played this role lol 😂 Poor autumn just looks waaayy older than her age
. Autumn was good don't get me wrong. BUT, Bailey overall had the feel of Elle Woods. Although Autumns voice was clearly better I totally agree with that part. But Autumn BUGGGED me she was so rude, and ignorant. Overall I combination of both would have been perfect✔️.
lets be real being 20 at the time and doing what she did is so surreal like kudos to her. when I was 2o I for sure did not do 8 shows a week that's for sure
Y’all are ripping this girl, and I understand she’s not the OBC, but she’s one of my inspirations. Im a young girl from South Carolina with the same dream, and you don’t see many other people from down here that aspire to be on Broadway. My parents talked me out of chasing my dream for a more reliable and pretty decent paying job. So chill.
I feel so bad that everyone is calling her bad. I’d like to hear what everyone else sounds like when they talk about others like that, yes Laura Bell Bundy was PHENOMENAL and it’s hard for someone else to capture the exact qualities of her performance! And even if Bailey wasn’t the perfect Elle in some peoples eyes, I hope everyone can agree that she is a beautiful singer. No one is perfect and I believe she deserved that role!
Hahaha I feel like the first letter of her first name and last name should be switched. After I said the name “Hailey Banks” out loud, “Bailey Hanks” started sounding really weird in comparison.
I think the big thing with the reality show is people forget that, she was fantastic not saying she wasn't, but she is visibly better OBVIOUSLY because that was an AUDITION. You will always be worse when you've had a day to a week to work on something alone with minimal to note notes or working with anybody than you will after rehearsing it.
Bailey didn't have the best vocals (though she's still obviously a really good singer), but I actually really like the energy she brought to the role. I think she nailed the characterization.
No, no, if you see the second last episode, her voice was struggling through ‘what you want’. But, 2 years ago she did a production in NYC. Holy cow, she was AMAZING
MayaBunny08 yes she replaced Laura sadly. Laura couldn't do it anymore because she was wanting to make another country album and because the song "so much better" from the show was too high for her and it totally messed up her vocal cords. So yeah
@@HeyItsSarah30 How about you try covering an accent for an entire Broadway show, tell me how that works out for you. Not to mention adding needing to be able to get the right timing for EVERYTHING and the correct breathing, eight shows a week.
@@rinthekat4296 Being on Broadway is a career for people, though - they still have a life outside the show. Saying you want to leave because you have a life isn't really a good reason to go. It doesn't sound like the real reason to me.
