Today I'm fishing the river Taff in Cardiff. It is a stunning Autumn day on the 17 th October. The leaves are falling and it was spitting with rain in the morning. As it reached midday the sun appeared and the temperature went up to 18 degrees centigrade here in Cardiff.

It would depend where you seen the fish. Above blackwier on the River Taff or below it ? Mullet enter the Cardiff bay barrage and can swim freely up the river . They stop at blackweir on the River Taff. Chub are found both above and below the weir. They get washed down past the weir when there is extra flood water in the River Taff. Many thanks for subscribing. Different venues coming up on my videos some local and some further away.

As you look upstream of the bridge spanning river taff at Western AVenue. It is approx about 150 yards on the right hand bank. I believe you would be wasting your time with it being so cold. Wait until next July . Hopefully after a little rain when water has a slight brown tinge to it. That will be your best chance in any likely looking swim of a couple of foot or 60cm . Good luck . Keep on bagging.

If you are interested in fishing cardiff bay. ( A mixed fishery holding a variety of coarse fish species including chub), contact Cardiff harbour authority, fishing development officer Tel:- 029 20 378161. Fishing is restricted to certain areas for your own safety. Glamorgan Angling Club have fishing rights on both the River Taff and River Ely in Cardiff ( These are the two Rivers that enter Cardiff bay). Fishing rights on:- the (River Taff) from canton bridge right through to the M4 bridge at Llandaff Cardiff. On the (River Ely) right through to St Fagans Cardiff. Day tickets for these rivers can be purchased at Garry Evans Tackle shop for around £10.00. Address105-109 Whitchurch Road, Cardiff Tel:- 029 20 619828. As far as I know there is no free fishing. I am a member of Glamorgan Angling Club myself. Hope this info was helpful. Thanks for watching this video.

as to my understanding you can only keep the catches in sea fishing and the rest you have to return the fish to the water, am i right?

Yes . With freshwater coarse fish. They have been introduced by either the water authority, fishery owners or fishing clubs who own streches of rivers or lakes. For this reason they are a valuable asset. Fish that have been introduced to fresh water cost large amounts of money. Fishery owners and fishing clubs who either rent or own a stretch of river or lake, allow people to fish with either seasonal permits or day tickets. In both cases a national rivers authority licence is also needed in addition to a day or season ticket. Under no circumstances are coarse fish allowed to be removed or introduced from either a member of the public or groups of individuals unless authorised to do so by a relevant fishery officer. The taking of fish in any of the above circumstances is punishable by law and can incurr:- loss of tackle, lifetime bans, a hefty fine and imprisonment.
