@@serthiag7373 ...So we're really gonna do this, huh? Very well. You keep saying it can be "satisfying" *and* "worth it". I keep saying since my very first post that it *is both* already (for those that know its monetary value yet keep mining it). Like... both at the same time. Two things in one thing. If I thought they were mutually exclusive, that wouldn't be possible in my mind, yet... it's what I've been saying since the beginning, so obviously I know they aren't mutually exclusive. This entire unnecessary argument is brought about because apparently you simply do not understand the concept that value (i.e. the basis of "worth") can be found by some in more ways than mere monetary gain, and whether something hits the threshold of "worth" is an internal individualistic decision, and those people have decided for themselves that it *is* "satisfying" *and is* "worth it" because in this particular situation satisfaction *IS what worth is dirived from.* But again, I already said this in much fewer words in my first post... What you mean is, you insist on doing something you'd already do regardless (because you just enjoy doing it that much) *and* you wish you got paid more to do it. lol But I mean... yeah... no shit. I too wish I found even more value in doing things I already found satisfaction in doing. lol At the end of the day ALL of "worth" in this video game boils down to "satisfaction" no matter how you slice it. There's nothing you do in DRG that translates to any other kind of "worth" (e.g. food on your plate irl).

Although not an earth shattering tid-bit, but for people playing solo (Haz 4 or below) making use of BosCo to mine some gold while you have nearby minerals or missions to do isn't a bad option. Particularly if it's in your path anyway, a narrow tunnel or high above that is going to rain down on you and won't need to go chasing after it, then "why not". This only applies while things are quiet or BosCo can't aid you directly (such as building pipelines or shooting bugs) but it has come in handy for a bit of extra credit at no extra time or effort to me. (Note BosCo doesn't work with buffs like Pots of Gold). I'm definitely one of those "I mine gold because it's thematic / an easy nearby bonus" kind of dwarf, but I draw the line on some Haz 4 and 5 missions where time is simply too precious to waste.

While I think you’re right, I find you argument less then compelling. You don’t need to show that mining other things is worth more than gold, because it’s not like you could take every moment you’re mining gold to mine something else instead. You need to compare gold to doing the rest of what you could be doing. I would run several missions (maybe ten) not trying to collect any gold and record the time and total credits earned. Then record how much time it takes to mine and deposit gold (not look for, just mining and depositing). Comparing these should let you figure out how slow you need to be doing missions for collecting gold to be worth it.

One of my favorite things about solo driller is going 2113 on c4, rushing a couple pods worth of nitra at the start of a mission, then blast mining any gold veins I see enroute to objectives or during timed waiting sections. I rush nitra at the start of every mission as a safety measure regardless, so its not even going out of my way for it. All of the bonus credits with virtually none of the time sink (longer deposit times I guess, but that's negligible, especially with animation cancelling). The only tradeoff is the risk of not being able to fall back on c4 for emergency waveclear/escape hole blasting because you used it all up insta-mining shinies.

It's still some really good info regarding the mineral trade booth value. I'll pass this along!

Yeah, I'd agree with that. I don't think I even cared about credits after like level 75ish. Currently 260-ish. Haven't had a credit issue outside of wanting early game cosmetics and the initial unlock progression. Gold scratches that mining itch as you're running around, and I think that's all it's meant to be. Haz 4-5+ does encourage just getting necessities though. Very rarely do you get a window to go out of your way to collect it. It would be nice for it to have value at higher level play, but that's someone else's job to think about lol.

My bismor, magnite, and enor are "low" in that they're like 3000 to 7000 but my Jadiz, Umanite are nearly 20,000. Lol. I try and wait for the deals, which I know will take forever. I'm waiting to finish my last 54 cosmetic cores to get mineral containers before I sell down to 10 grand. I just wanna make sure I have no more need for minerals, besides promotions, before I start selling them off. I've got 1mill and 100,000 in credits and I make sure not to go below 1 mill. This all makes sense from a veteran player perspective. However, a greenbeard desperately needs all the crafting minerals they can get and selling them for gold simply isn't worthwhile. After all weapons and upgrades/important overclocks and cosmetics are unlocked then minerals can be a source of cash.
@Bookslayer10
@Bookslayer10 2 года назад
No, you misunderstand the point of selling crafting minerals. By skipping gold and selling surplus crafting minerals when you need the cash, you save enough time to do more missions and get even more valuables. Trying to mine gold to make up the credits costs you more minerals than selling them, because it eats into mineral harvesting time.
@PRC533
@PRC533 2 года назад
@@Bookslayer10 It's not a cut and dry as that though. There's always downtime in a mission that you can use to mine easily avaialble gold. Should you spend 5 minutes digging to a vein on the roof, no. However, making these universal statements like "its never worth mining gold" aren't true either. Plus, crafting minerals have wild variation in spawn rates on missions whereas gold is fairly constant. The real answer is: mine gold when you have time and always prioritize crafting minerals. That's true for every stage of the game no matter how many promotions you have.
@Bookslayer10
@Bookslayer10 2 года назад
@@PRC533 It is very rare to be in a situation where there is no way to further the objective. All classes can do anything, so really you only should be waiting on teammates and timers. Both of those can be reduced with proper strategy - if you can mine gold during the timer, you could have started it sooner. Simply having time where you could mine gold is a bad strategy for making credits, so by extension mining gold is still a waste of your time in most cases.

@@PRC533 Who are you to say what other people can and can't do? Maybe you need to screech at optimizing players that they aren't playing the game right, but normal people realize that there are many different ways to have fun in DRG. I don't go along and yell at you that fat boy isn't an ammo efficient OC and you should be burned at the stake then kicked for using it. I'm happy playing with other people on haz 5 trying to improve and strategies, as long as nobody comes along and calls me an elf for not scraping off every last pixel of gold off the cave walls. Skipping gold isn't even that extreme, it's the best way to get credits, crafting minerals, xp, overclocks, skins, and generally all the things the game has to offer as rewards. Calling gold not worth the time to mine doesn't mean that everyone who mines it is wrong; there can be other motives to personally justify mining it, which are completely okay. I just like mining gold, shut up. More seriously, as several of us said last time, we measure gameplay by number of missions played, not some arbitrary length of time. If I ignore gold and finish a mission two minutes faster, that's not going to magically give me two more minutes of efficient mission time. If I was going to play another mission, I was going to play it regardless of whether or not I spent two minutes mining gold veins. If I wasn't, finishing slightly faster won't change that. IMO trying to break things down into an abstract exp/credits per minute equation runs into a similar problem as designing builds by plugging things into a DPS calculation: it entirely ignores the real-world human factors at work. Just as your experience using a weapon is more complex and holistic than a DPS figure, your experiences within and around running missions are more complex than "credits per minute". If I don't mine gold, I end my play session down on credits and exp to the tune of the gold I skipped. Skipping gold doesn't magically transform it into crafting minerals, and it doesn't mean that I'm going to run a second mission to get more minerals. Basically, there's no real opportunity cost to mining gold. It takes *maybe* five seconds to mine a gold vein. In 95% of pub matches other players are going to be mining gold as well. You're unlikely to spend more than a minute or two mining gold in any given mission, and that's usually going to take place while you're waiting for someone to be ready.

I get what you're saying, and it has some merit in some cases, but it's not universally applicable, and I'd say not in this case. For example: _"we measure gameplay by number of missions played, not some arbitrary length of time"_ That's not necessarily true. Most people don't sit down and say, "I'll play 6 missions, regardless of how long it takes." Most people say, "I'll play until X o'clock" then they play however many missions just so happens to fit in that timeframe. That "some arbitrary length of time" method you mention is actually is far more common. If in that timeframe someone played 5 missions and mined gold, spending 2 minutes here and there (even longer if they happen upon a Crassus or felt obliged to get out-of-reach gold veins they'd otherwise ignore if not for having Pots O' Gold), then yes they might've missed out on time to play a 6th mission because there would be enough time between "now" and X o'clock. Your argument is that they were never going to play a 6th mission no matter what lead up to that moment, but that's just not the case. If someone enters a mission and says "This is my last mission tonight and I'm not playing another no matter how quickly I finish this one." that's usually *because* it's getting close to X o'clock-an arbitrary length of time that they previously set for themselves.

@@lein5300 I'd personally counter that by saying that i don't really choose a set time to keep playing myself, i just go for however many missions i feel like doing, and then stop, usually the weekly core hunt one day, priority assignment the next, deep dive(s) another- the game has plenty of built-in activities that are explicitly mission-metered first, and time-metered second. as such, a lot of people (myself included) care about getting value out of missions, rather than time. it might be less time efficient, sure, but this comes back to that player psychology deal, how fast you wish to play, and in general what your game plan is in the first place. That being said, i wouldn't mind gold getting a buff in some way or another, though its largely fine as is.

@@margakis Well, first off we can assume we're talking about people that play most days out of a week for a decent amount of time, since that's explicitly the type of person the video is aimed at. The cases where someone plays once a week or less just to get the weekly stuff clearly doesn't value what the targeted audience of this video values (i.e. getting efficient monetary value out of time spent). Those people might do what you're saying like once a week when the new assignments roll around, but I don't believe most of those people most of the time sit down to play "X number of missions" over "For Y amount of time" the rest of week after they've done the Deep Dives and such. That's just a very counterintuitive and unnatural way to segment your play time when you have no assignments and you're just sitting down to play some daily DRG.

Generally speaking your gonna be playing with randoms who more often than not wont be trying to speedrun the mission so your gonna have time to mine gold.Yes if your playing with friends or solo its faster to speedrun but in the average game your gonna be waiting on your team to do stuff so its efficient to just mine gold during down time.

When I play with random people I just try and match what they're doing. If I lag it too long in one spot mining I'll turn around and notice the group has gone deeper into the cave already. If I'm solo or with my friends than it's time to clean out everything I/we can. I like mining gold, there's something simple and satisfying about it. For people who say "but I need the minerals": If you are low on minerals and not credits then for you minerals are worth 150, not 50 credits so mining gold is even more wasteful. Then if after you stop mining gold you end up with excess minerals, you're still better off skipping gold as this video shows.

At the stage of the game that I'm at (around player rank 80 with a bunch of overclocks still to collect) I'm more in need of minerals than credits. I don't collect all minerals equally because of where the assignments take me, so if I'm ever in need of credits (which is rarely) then I can easily sell off excess minerals instead of running missions. The ability to effectively store credits in a resource that has other uses allows me to save a lot of time in the long run.

Part of the issue I find with this argument is that it assumes that the time saved will matter. If you are long hauling through 10 - 15 missions, sure that time save will matter. But lets say you are only running 4-5 missions at a time. That time save won't be enough to allow for an additional mission that you wouldn't have played otherwise.

I ask in chat at the beginning of dives with randos "do we care about Gold?" And 90% of the time the answer is "not really, no" and then mining gold becomes the last thing I do and only if I have literally nothing else to do like ping stuff for voicelines. Some of the kids in the discord love to piss and shit their pants if you say you do not mine gold in regular missions because they can't comprehend how demoralizing it is mining something that is objectively less valuable than me simply doing a faster clear on Haz 4+. I have 2,000 of each crafting mineral sitting in my bank, and I simply sell and skim right off the top. I don't get enough OCs to burn through that and I already have every current upgrade unlocked for each class. I have upwards of 200k credits at any time, I also do not chase promotions. I have been upgrading everyone to Gold slowly, and it's kept costs low because I'm not so single-minded as to only play one class. Now, if I'm being honest, there is one other major reason that stops me from mining gold it is a major thing. It takes two hits to mine. Fuck that.

The reason why I mind gold is less because of how much it's worth, honestly I'm not sure but if I'm playing solo, I just told Bosco tonight while I do something more productive like figure out where the next big thing is and just pick it up on the way kinda like the EPC mining mentioned. And when with friends, it's a fun game between the scout and Engineer as to who can ping materials in the air sooner and it builds camaraderie while still being a fun game. We all go after the gold on the ground less because we feel we have to be rich (we could just blitz main objectives for that) but it's fun and relaxing to play casually. No one is dying for gold. (I do die to figure out if I can stay in the starting pod for the mission the whole time and I fail because I'm in A drop pod, it was four eggs so they were done in less than ten minutes)

so funny I find this now, I've been doing a lot of solo's while my internet was down, and I found myself going from mining every gold vein clean, to ignoring it completely by the time I started playing co-op again. Never crunched any numbers, just felt like calling the drop pod early one mission then slowly shyed away from it. What I would love for someone to do is the math for is secondary OBJs. Could I get more Exp by calling the mission off after the eight minute mark and going into the next cave, or is the side mission worth the extra ten minutes that some seem to take? Cause the secondary missions are starting to fall off with the gold as well.

So what’s the best system that maximises credits and minerals gained, but minimises xp? Xp is basically just a detriment for me, I haven’t gotten the achievement for all gold yet (based on some of those other achievements I’ll have years to get that one) but other than the achievement the only thing xp is doing is just forcing me into a long assignment that then makes me pay a chunk of minerals and credits.

My opinion on the topic is I mine gold when times are good, because if the swarms are easily managed and I've got sufficient nitra, I'll take what's 'extra' to go. Or, of course, when certain mission types and other things (Crassus, pots o gold) line up to make it worth while. If things are NOT going well and I'm barely scraping buy to get the more important shit, I will ignore gold. EDIT: despite this being my favorite game and doing elite deep dives whenever I can, I consider myself a casual and don't put value into optimizing every little nitty-gritty thing in the game. This is supposed to be fun, not my fucking job. But on the subject of selling crafting minerals, yeah, I agree, that's a better idea than going for gold especially if you have a ton of them. I have nearly 5k in umanite just sitting around and I don't have a rhyme or reason to use it until I need it.

The Virgin "So here is the mathematical formula" vs The Chad "Well, I did 200 Runs and here are the numbers". I switched sides a few times and I can say only one thing: I can tell the difference between the two when it comes to credits, but I can't tell the difference on the time needed. It is more important to speedrun the mission and mine gold on the side then to pause the main objectiv. The biggest time loss is stuff like waiting for the mule to get to the drop pod and other mission related things, not stopping to hit a gold vain for 10 seconds.
@deemo665

Mining gold isn't necessarily a binary state, it can be considered a scale with extremes. At one end you have the "never ever mind gold of any kind" and at the other end you have "scour every nook and cranny of the cave to find every drop of gold". No kidding, I have seen players use literal minutes to get to a hard to reach gold spot when we don't have a scout, as well as prioritize gold over the mission in haz 4 point extract. I think the results you see will vastly be affected by where on that scale you were initially. If your average mission takes 40 minutes or more, you have a lot to gain. There's also something to be said for habits. Those that tend to skip gold more often than mining it will also tend to have habits that speed up gameplay too. Such as calling the drop pod immediately.
