On the Wrist, from off the Cuff: Christopher Ward - C60 Trident Mk3, 40mm vs. 42mm

On this episode we take a another look at Christopher Ward's C60 Trident Mk3 but this time the point of focus is to compare and contrast the new 40mm offering with their more classic (to the C60 line) 42mm size option. I know for me, I was quite intrigued by the idea of a 40mm C60 Trident but upon closer inspection, I feel that the 42mm has the best overall proportions. Now if you have a smaller wrist, then the 38mm or 40mm are a no brainer BUT if you're normally fine with larger sizes like me but prefer a 40mm watch's typical 'golden' proportions and scale, this video might really help you out. Let me know what you think in the comments below, thanks guys!

I like the 40mm in this video, and think that you getting used to the 42mm may have affected your impression. I wore a 42mm Traser for years, and then started wearing my Dad's Seiko 37mm. Most 40mm watches in my collection seemed a little small before, and now seem a little large. I think one's brain adapts to a size, and it takes a while to "re-see" it. I also prefer the less dramatic taper - it just seems more "vintage" to me somehow. All of this said, my wrist is 6.75", and the 42mm C60 I tried on felt just a touch too big. I have not tried on the 40mm yet, so you might be right.

What makes or breaks the look of a watch on my 6.5" wrist id the wing-span. I do have 42mm sized watches and one in 43 with a very short wings-span (lug-to lug) relative to the dial diameter, and it fits me and looks great.

Would have been nice if you had got the 40mm in blue to compare the colours. Heck would have been cool if you got a 38mm as well to compare all 3 sizes. While you can easily pull off the 42mm, I unfortunately can’t with a dainty 6.5” wrist. For me it would be a toss up between the 38mm and 40mm. Still not sure about the hand set (though I like how it’s kind of unique). Wish they’d ditch the 9 o’clock CW text. Would look better in my opinion with the new flag logo coloured at the 12 o’clock position. Great video as always.

This is a very strange piece . The 42 mm wears very big for its dimension and yet for some reason the 40mm wears more like a 39 mm and has an almost puck like stance on the wrist . I actually really like the 40mm but it does look quite small initially and takes a bit of getting used to . I’m thinking it would probably wear very well as a 41mm , but then again this is not a certainty..

Thanks for the side-by-side...and all of your great videos! From my perspective I do think the 40mm is closer to the perfect size for your wrist but I do see the appeal of the larger version as well as believe a little bigger is better than a little smaller. I will however need to say that your review on the 38mm titanium Helson did lead me astray. My wrist size is about the same as yours but I find that watch just too small. It actually is making me lean toward a 42mm in this one for myself. I think Random Rob felt the same way about these two watches. I am curious how the case feels size-wise underneath the bezel...looks smaller which is also pointing me toward the 42mm.

Love all the feedback guys, one thing to clarify, this video is in no means a shot at the 40mm size. The scale that suits your wrist best is subjective, the focus is more on the more objective proportions of the watch elements apart from the wrist. In the video description, I even mention, "Now if you have a smaller wrist, then the 38mm or 40mm are a no brainer BUT if you're normally fine with larger sizes like me but prefer a 40mm watch's typical 'golden' proportions and scale, this video might really help you out."

I have to agree with other comments that think the 40 fits you better. Although I believe it’s completely a matter of personal preference. I’ve been acquiring a taste for smaller watches lately (38-40’s). Btw you have a great video on smaller watches that I recently viewed and was very enjoyable. The difference between being able to “pull it off” and a “perfect or ideal fit” is something I’m just recently understanding (again, “ideal fit” could be just a personal preference) To my eyes the 40 is an ideal fit for you and you can pull off the 42. And I agree that the 38 for this model is too small.
@AverageBros

indeed, the 40 mm looks like the design of the 42, but compacted, squeezed, it somewhat loses the beauty of the 42mm. The design was created majestically for the 42 with adaptation to the 40mm. If the scale were reduced proportionately in everything, then it would be perfect. But it is not what we see here. Congratulations on your insight and analysis.

Nice, in-depth comparison/review. I think 40mm looks more cohesive. And yes you have missed out on one information, a non critical (critical for me) but a curious one, the weight of the watches. It would be nice in future reviews if you could please include that piece of information. I personally prefer heavy watches where weight speaks of quality (not always though).
