Yep, it's best to have pace notes read a couple corners ahead of where you are so you know where to put the car so you don't end up going into a hairpin at 120 km/h. Plus it's kind of a mental mapping concept of imagining what the road will look like ahead of you based on what pace notes you hear. =)

What does lid or lips or lids mean? Or nips? I've never heard those.

@@mobucks555 Hi , Paul is saying , "NIPS" it means that the corner tightens half a grade / angle on exit of the corner

think some drivers (eg. ken block) prefer the lever over the paddles. I think I saw paddles in this car, but I don't know if they were for gears?

@@jsleeio They do have a paddle on the left-hand side of the steering wheel, but it's for the wipers. Gearchange paddles are banned again [1] since this year in order to reduce costs - back in 2014, when everybody was using the lever, Robert Kubica needed the gearchange paddle on the left-hand side of the steering wheel due to his limitations on his right arm, and it costed around £10,000; don't know how much they cost now. Sure the paddle itself is cheap, but not the gearchange system. They also banned the active center differential, and combined with the removal of the paddle, they were able to also remove the hydraulic system which both things were using, again to save costs. [1] Previously, it got banned for the 2011 season and got reintroduced for the 2015 season, although they weren't using it during the first rallies.
