I really like the whirring noise the flaps make while in operation . It's so awesome
@mrifixplanes1813
@mrifixplanes1813 4 года назад
That's not the flap system making the noise, rather an air driven hydraulic pump in the centre hydraulic system that kicks in when there's high demand.

It's so interesting to see the wing kinda rip open lol. Reveals all the hydraulic lines and the actuator for the inboard aileron is clearly visible in this video. First time I remember seeing that was a few years back when I was 6 or 7. Thought the wing was about to rip itself apart cuz I could see the runway through the flap tracts once the ground spoilers had deployed.

@christopherescott6787
@christopherescott6787 7 лет назад
I was looking more specifically at the inboard flap sets. True of the 47-8's and the 380. Massive it is.
@ronaldhowell2041
@ronaldhowell2041 6 лет назад
But fundamentally different. Boeing have always elected to use tracked flaps on all their commercial transports, whereas MDC elected to go with hinged Fowler flaps on theirs. the tracked flap approach also provides additional wing area but higher operating loads, whereas the hinged flap is simpler and thus lower in maintenance costs.

Anyone knows how much hydraulic force is needed to keep the flight spoilers up like that at that airspeed
@chesterwang3070
@chesterwang3070 3 года назад
Put it this way. A lot. I don't know for sure the exact value, but it's quite a lot. Then again tho, the flight spoilers only deploy at a low angle, so there isn't too much force applied.

I’m missing something about full flaps or what? Title made me think something fancy gonna happen? I thought 98.79% of the time you land with flaps full unless it’s windy and you use flaps 3(Airbus boy here don’t judge me Boeing fans) or you have spare runway length!

Not really. Newer aircraft, including the 777, are so efficient and have lesser drag than older aircraft, that even on a slight descent, they need to raise the speedbrakes even on idle power or risk overspeeding. It's not like a maddog where as soon as you cut the engines you lose speed.

That spoiler -second out in the second set, -why doesn't it move in unison with the others, or deflect at the same extension angle of the others? (10:30). In fact, why aren't they all extending at the same time? Details, I know. JDLR (Just Doesn't Look Right) Call the systems chief. PS: nice catch! Love that Geneva countryside! It's on my bucket list, and of course I'll be flying in a Swiss 777 :)
@ronaldhowell2041

Looks like a little mis-rigging on the outer spoilers, resulting in the differing angle in deployment.
@joetownsend343
@joetownsend343 6 лет назад
Ronald- Thank you. I'm not seeing it in other similar 777 videos. Which begs the question, Since this is a new jet, and if it is an anomaly, how did it get by QA? Oh, and I see that now on another Swissair 777 video. HB-JNA -Maybe the same bird. I'm sure there is some technical excuse, but I'm not buying it, and yes, I am a retired pilot, still passionate about aviation, especially Boeing and Gulfstream. Airbus can bite me. :)

That's normal, #4 and #11 Spoiler Actuator are different from other outboard spoilers, in fact, they are operated by cable rather than wire, and can only be fully retracted or fully extended.
