This is a much requested video of our daily milking routine here on the Homestead. We only milk once a day. This video shows our daily process, starting with separating the calf in the evening all the way through to milking Autumn, cleaning our equipment, and then filtering and storing our milk.
Here are affiliate links to purchase and see the equipment we are using in the video:

Getting ready to get our first family milk cow and this video was SO helpful! I’ve been watching all the videos you have posted so far on your milk cow. Thank you so much! We don’t have water at our barn either. Super helpful!

Very cool! I can drink regular milk with no problem. But my husband became lactose intolerant a few years back and wasn’t able to have milk, sour cream, cottage cheese, etc. he was a huge milk guy and it was depressing for him. I recently found out that even lactose intolerant people could drink RAW milk with little to no problems and actually found a farm store near my work that sells raw milk. It’s that time of year that we’re milk sharing with the calves. The line to buy milk is almost out the door on delivery days with people waiting on the delivery truck. LOL

The reason is because it’s not true “lactose intolerance”. Few people are actually lactose intolerance, it the processing that makes it indigestible and all the other problems.

Tim O’Donnell sent me here to watch this and it was super helpful, thank you! We are just starting to milk with a machine and don’t have water at our barn yet. My husband and I were trying to figure out the best process for cleaning and hauling. It was a bit overwhelming the first time but this video gives us hope!

Tim is a close friend of ours! I’m happy he sent you this way! Having a barn with electricity and running water is super nice and helpful but not required. Just a couple of buckets and a generator will get you started! We’ve been using this method for over a year now and it works just fine! God bless you Christine!

We are so glad that you like it! Whenever I was filming, I made sure to get every detail that I wanted to know whenever we were looking into milking. So many people skip over details that seem routine to them. Even though they may be routine to an experience milker, most new milkers want to know everything! If you enjoyed the video, stay tuned for more! We try to give lots of detail and every video that we make! We try to keep them brief but some of them just have to be long ha ha!

I watched this video, because I was wondering how other people doing it. We milk sheep for many years and our two cows for a few years now. You do it mostly the same like we do. Just two things I want to tell you. You said correctly that there might be some dirt or mud in the teats, so you press a little bit of milk out of them to make sure the milk is clean before you start the actuell milking process. Well the milk in the milk channel (that the german word translated not sure if you use it that way) can get mixed up with the milk in the udder while cleaning and rubbing the udder like you do. So better press the few splashes milk out first and then clean the udder!!! About cleaning all the tubes there is also an advice. Milk is mainly made of water, fat and protein. If the protein gets in touch with hot water it reacts and sticks to the hoses very badly. If you splash everything with cold water first (just a few second till the water is clear) and then clean it with the soap and bleech water mix you will get rid of the protein and the fat. Fat can just get removed with hot water of course! Keep on the good work with your cows! Love your family! Greetings from Austria

You could put those caps in a small lingerie laundry bag to dip in the water so you don’t get your hands in it. This is how Girl Scouts are taught to wash the dishes at camp.

Hey I know it's been a while, but are you able to share a link to that same milk funnel? I can't find one reasonably priced on Amazon or one that fits into a wide mouth jar. Great video, thank you for your educational content!

Which milker do you use? is this the $600 one off amazon?
@OurFruitfulFamily
@OurFruitfulFamily 2 года назад
We actually talk a little bit about the Milker in another video. It’s actually a Slavic Beauty two cow Milker. It is about a $1600 milker but we got it from the folks we purchased autumn from. They said that if I could fix it to send them $100 in the mail. Long story short, I fixed it LOL

My question is doesn't all cows produce milk ?
@OurFruitfulFamily
@OurFruitfulFamily Год назад
What exactly are you asking? All Cows, aside from rare medical cases, should produce milk after they have given birth to a calf. The milk cycle only lasts so long before you have to let them dry up for a few months, and then they give birth again which starts the cycle over.
