Our Milk Cow, Autumn just went through the Artificial Insemination process on the homestead this week and we are waiting to find out if she is pregnant! In this video, we show you the entire process! It is actually quite simple!

It’s been a Lot of years ago but my husband and I used to work at a dairy farm where they did all their own AIS! And they pasteurized their milk too before shipping it to local stores!! It was an awesome time of my life!

We don’t do our own AI just yet! As far as pasteurization, we drink the milk raw and sell it raw to clients who pick it up from our farm!

Great video! Planning on AI this year for the first time for our two heifers. Always used a bull before. Sounds like she took the first try for you.

She did well! Can’t say it’s the same for all cows though… seems to depend on the temperament…

Did it cost extra for the blood test at the end? And what was the injection that you gave her 3 times?

All of the visits, shots, and test at the end was included in the price. As for the name of the injection, that was so long ago... prostaglandin if i remember correctly. It was a series of shots that brings her into artificial heat, preparing her body for the semen.

@OurFruitfulFamily I think it's crazy, too! I guess all the people who used to do it here either moved or died. 😬 So nobody is left in our large town except one vet clinic that will send someone out! Everyone else uses bulls. That'd be great but we don't have a bull and we don't have a horse trailer to transport our cow to a bull.... 😔

I have heard of artificial insemination of dogs to be able to breed a small dog with a big one. I have never heard of being able to pick the sex of the offspring that was new information for me.

It’s absolutely insane how far the advances in science have come. Some good, some bad. I think this one in particular is pretty neat haha!
