I'm in rural Australia and built up my stockpile a different way. We are gluten, dairy and peanut free due to allergies. When I see something for half price I will buy enough to last 3 or 4 months, until it is on half price sale next time. I'm now at a point where I rarely pay full price, except when I go to Costco.
Learning to stock only what we use was a harder lesson than it needed to be lol. I started by going by what others were doing and ended up with things that just sat there. I donated so much. Total waste on my part. I also learned the hard way to can sizes that worked for me. A goodly amount of people can in quarts and it was a huge waste in my house. I started canning in 1/2 pints for “sides” like pepper slaw and baked beans and in pints for things like black beans, pinto beans, and refried beans. Size mattered wayyyy more than I thought about in the beggining. It’s better for me to grab 2 pints or 1/2 pints if I need to, than to open a quart and then have it go to waste. I wish I had been more thoughtful when I started 2 years ago. Canning meals doesn’t work for me either. I never grab for it. I do better with single ingredients I can put together than to have jars already done. Thank you for stressing the importance of doing what works best for you and not other people.
ONLY ONE THING, PLEASE, WHEN YOU SAY THAT YOUR KIDS GO BEYOND THEIR TARGETS OR WHATS EXPECTED OF THEM ON A DAILY OR WEEKLY HASIS, PLEASE DO NOT PUSH THEM TOO MUCH, SURELY GOING BEYOND WHATEVER KIND OF SCHOOL KNOWLEDGE AND SCHOOLWORK THEY ATE DOING IS NOT LITERALLY EXPECTED OF THEM, AND FOR SURE, AS SOON AS THEY VE FINISHED WHAT THEY NEED TO DO, THEY CAN PLAY, AND FOR SURE ALSO IN BETWEEN AT TIMES XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
I have a question about azure. I’m trying to find more things packaged in glass or paper. You know the chocolate chips and similar items, are the bags they come in actually paper? Or are the plastic and just look like paper? I’ve been searching their website but I can’t find it. Thanks 😊 I have to go back and watch the bits of this video I missed.
The bags are paper! I love it because they aren’t lined in plastic and can be burned in a fire pit or recycled. I often use the really large bags from 25-50lb items in my garden to suppress the weeds 🙂
