Seriously, beans are one of the best money vs. nutrition/calorie foods out there. The best bang for your buck and they taste FREAKING DELICIOUS. Sometimes I think we are so spoiled for food in the west that we forget how good the basics can be. Go work a hard day and come back to a big plate of properly made beans and rice and tell me it's not delicious. You get a wide choice too. Pinto beans, black beans, kidney beans, etc. Brown rice, white rice, sticky rice, etc. Add spices/herbs and hot sauce if you're like me. Much better than living on instant ramen and microwave burritos.
@Tom Yeah, I'm from Pennsylvania. It's here plenty of cafeterias have it w/o explanation.. meaning the general population know what it is. Mashed is full of shit quite often.
John B. This survey was most likely taken in California. Sloppy Joe's and beans and Frank's still popular in the mid west especially the great lakes states. Most surveys and polls are given to people who are so far removed from the majority it's creepy.
@@y-mefarm4249 In Poland we still eat it. We called it "fasolka po bretońsku" What translated means something like "Beans British style." You can get it in many regional restaurants in the country. It is cheap and tasty but it feel like you eat lead after you finished it.
my favorite dessert in the 50's was my mother's fluffy tapioca pudding layered with strawberries and whipped cream in a tall parfait glass. it was time consuming to make, but back then moms were often full time homemakers.
I make Sloppy Joe's regularly for the grand-kids, but use barbecue sauce instead of Manwich. I brown up a skilletful of ground meat ( or ground turkey), with chopped onion and green peppers, drain any grease, then stir in the BBQ sauce. Everyone loves it!
Shredded Chi I just bought my kids fruit stripe gum! They thought it was cool and the little tattoos on the wrappers gave them hours of fun. I had a stick and it was good for maybe two minutes but it was a happy two minutes walking down memory lane.
Shredded Chi maybe I was trying too hard to remember this gum fondly. And I freely admit I had fruit stripe tattoos on my arms. I then remembered that freshen up gum my mom would buy. It had that burst of minty gel in the middle. Sadly it’s not being made anymore.
Yup!! It's a meal in our house at least once every couple of months. It's packed with sodium I'm sure and we are pushing 40 so....🤷🏻♀️ we have to ration it out.

Sloppy joes are one of those foods that suck when done normally but are amazing when done with care. Kind of like Mac and cheese or tuna fish sandwiches.

I sautee chopped onions & green peppers with my sloppy joes. My son, about your age, loves that meal - also. Goes great with mac & cheese plus a fresh salad.
Dude. I eat sloppy joes multiple times a year. Plus, whenever I have some with friends over, nobody thinks it's rare. What's this bullshittery about nobody having eaten sloppy joes since the 90s? Franks and beans are still quite common. Every time there's something going on in the neighborhood- graduation party, 4th of July, sporting event, misc. celebratory barbecue, etc...- there's always at least one bucket of hotdogs and baked beans. Sugary fruit-flavored juices are everywhere, and are basically inescapable. Stop lying. Bubble gum is also still everywhere. You can't walk into a gas station and not see them lining the shelves.
i eat a can of beans at least once a month, i ground up hamburger and mix with the beads put cheese and biscuits on it, cook at 350 till the buns are golden

People rant and rave about mcdonalds fries then and now, but i'm all about old school jack in the box fries, they were thick, creamy, and had the skin on the ends.
It's not just you, it's just that they use absolute language like "no one" to make the video seem more enticing. If they cared about accuracy and or a title that would apply to their video it would have been "Once popular foods that has fallen out of favor", or "Once popular foods that fewer people eat", or something along those lines. That or they are just completely ignorant, like claiming a food has stopped being eaten entirely because it will not look good in an instagram post. Do you plan your meals around if it looks good to post or not? I am sure there are a few people like that out there but I am fairly certain they are a lot more rare than people who still eat shit like Manwich.

I live on the west coast and sloppy joes are still a staple here. I never liked tapioca pudding so I honestly have never made it as an adult, but I do rice pudding instead. I eat my hot dogs with chili mostly but would eat frank and beans if it were offered
I always made sloppy joe's for my kids and they loved them and still do. Now, my little granddaughters favorite meal is my sloppy joes. I use the McCormack sloppy joe mix in the envelope and just add some water and tomato paste. Cook the ground beef with some diced onion and drain the fat first. Simple. Her other favorite meals are my meatloaf with mashed potatoes, fried and breaded chicken cutlets with rice-a-roni or spaghetti and good quality Italiian sausage. Simple things make little kids happy.
Nothing wrong with sloppy joes. If concerned about sodium, don't use Manwich. Use tomato sauce, fresh onions and peppers, spices, and you control the salt. A long time ago, i ran across a recipe for millionaire's franks and beans. It called for Kobe hot dogs (didn't know they existed), some kind of fancy beans, etc. So i used Ball Park dogs, regular beans, etc and seasoned it my way. Pretty good, but it was a little salty. I love Kozy Shack pudding, and tapioca is my favorite, but i seldom buy it anymore. Fruit Stripe gum was always a favorite. Better go get some. It's probably been 15 yrs. I can take or leave Hi-C. I recently discovered that Mio with vitamins orange flavor is a lot like Hi-C, and it's sugar free (sucralose). It's pretty good.
instead of hotdogs, use ground hamburger, put it in a 9x9 pan, put cheese and biscuits on top, then into the oven till biscuits are done, the biscuit will be soggy on the bottom, i like that, if you dont, pre-make the biscuits
I still like sloppy joes. The only reason I don't eat them as often as an adult is because they are messy. No other reason. I don't want to get sauce on my work clothes at lunch time. These Mashed Lists are really not reflective of an overall reality. My hunch is that these lists are created by the producers and staff of this youtube show and base their opinions on the views of their small social circle.
Over here in Kansas, sloppy joes along with franks & beans never died. There is a barbecue culture here and people we'll be willing to risk a little over dosage of sodium in order to get a good sloppy joe or two. Franks & beans are less common but just about every person, no matter what age, has eaten a sloppy joe in the past year.
I remember having 3 of those on a regular basis as a kid and my wife and I enjoy them fairly often today. HiC was never on the menu at our house. We got milk, orange juice or water. No soda. No bubble yum either. Too conscious of having healthy teeth and avoided sugar as much as possible.
Bruh, Sloppy Joes are still popular. Not as popular as they used to be but they’re popularity is alive and well. I love them and everyone I know loves them.

If you know how to cook from scratch (lose the Manwhich) and have a decent recipe for Sloppy Joe’s you’ll make them more often! People love my Anything But Sloppy Joe.
Last time I had Sloppy Joes, my ex-girlfriend cooked them for me. Also I got food poisoning. Also I knew I was going to get food poisoning the moment she told me she was making me dinner.

Ah undercooked meat, or thawing in put with hot water, when ever you thaw out in the sink always use cold water hot or warm water will increase the growth of bacteria, and do not pork, beef, or chicken touching while sitting out, you can cook them together but only when you start putting it in the oven (turducken but I wouldn't risk it) or sausage and ground beef but mix em together within a minute or two before cooking (great for spaghetti or a twist on Mac n cheese)
Sloppy Joe has always been one of my favorites, made the way dad made it with Worcestershire and sweet pickle relish. As a grown up, I rarely eat it, and if I do, it's with a stack of those precooked, crispy corn tortillas or Frito's Scoops. More often, I use a Sloppy Joe Seasoning packet to make my meatloaf - super zesty. The texture of Tapioca grosses me out, probably because I always think of slugs when feel those pearls. Beanie Weenie - I've made it maybe 3 times in the last 20 years, and only because we were out of bread lol. Fruit Stripe gum was so delicious - for about 5 seconds, when the flavor disappeared lol. I'm surprised gelatin/Jello wasn't mentioned, specifically those godawful marshmallow salad concoctions
I eat sloppy Joes still. They are so fucking good. THey never went out of style in Canada. I still use manwhich sauce too. I actually have 2 cans right now im cupboards upstairs. Tapioca pudding/rice pudding I always traded for an apple or something.
Sloppy Joes was the FIRST that came to my mind! As a Gen Xer growing up in the 70s, it seemed like our elementary school cafeteria was chugging out Sloppy Joes in high rotation every other day on the school menu. I didn't bother with it, because my mom packed me a lunch anyway, but at recess, I had to dodge all my classmates on the playground with Sloppy Joe beards on their face, which I thought looked disgusting!
I'm a New Yorker and I eat sloppy Joe's.... And I HAVE glammed and updated the recipe by using ground turkey or chicken, fresh tomatoes, bell pepper and putting it on Texas Toast or garlic bread!
Franks & Beans are hellishly easy to make, using a slow cooker. Where I am a leg amputee, it makes for an easy to fix hot meal, not that I get hot meals all that often.
It's funny. You address sodium several times, but the fact is, nutrition science not only isn't settled, it wobbles around more than any other. Things are ruled as bad for us, then new studies a decade and a half later show shows they're good. Things are rules safe, and then unsafe, and then safe again. Remember the food pyramid? Anyhow, while strong excess is never good, sodium is not a big risk. And there are studies coming out showing that people told to avoid sodium for health reasons experience just as many, if not more, health issues on a low sodium diet, as not. And seeing as the big problem with sodium is water retention and heart issues? If you're peeing normally and your blood pressure is good, salt isn't a concern for you.
The amount of sodium consumption has been rising over the years to a point where it's not considered healthy by the medical community. Those with high blood pressure need to watch their salt intake since a low salt diet will usually lower blood pressure. The problem isn't the use of salt but it's abuse.
I don't know what "Sloppy Joes" are, as I'm not American, but in the UK we certainly eat minced (ground) meat cooked with onions, tomatoes, etc. Topped with mashed potato it's a cottage pie; served with pasta it's "Bolognese". And tinned baked beans are still one of our staple foods!
Sloppy joes are still on our menus to but we don't buy the mix for it! We make ours from scratch and it's way better then the stuff you buy in the store!
@@ejdiii333 Sadly, I live in the South, and I can tell you, possum pie is still eaten, even if uncommon. Never seen anyone boil sheep eyes, but, I'm sure it came from days when every last scrap of food was needed.
We still eat sloppy Joes..as I am from the midwest originally and Maide-Rite was our food for the day when in school and later on...now I live out in Nevada at age 82 and my wife stills make Sloppy joe's for a change rather than the frozen dinner microwaves...
I keep a can or two of frank and Beans in my cupboard 24/7. Ill have a can every so often when I'm hungry & too lazy to make anything. With a few dabs of hot sauce it makes for a quick, good, filling, cost efficient meal. Can't go wrong keeping a couple cans of frank & beans in your pantry or cupboard.
I love Sloppy Joes! In fact, I think I'll make some today. Tapioca pudding: I buy it all the time ready-made in the refrigerated section. And although I don't eat franks and beans very often, just set a bowl of 'em in front of me and see what happens!
What even is this video. I make sloppy Joes for my family pretty regularly (a fast and no fuss fave of mine) and I literally crave and eat tapioca at least once a month.
