Thanks Mikey for the tip about not starting the split single crochet till round 10. The pattern is pretty straightforward, but I stupidly selected an O'Go that begins with the color black. But it got easier as I went along and I really like the look of it. Looking forward to seeing the finished basket. Love your tuturials!
Fab pattern! Easy once you get the hang of the stitch but worth the effort because it gives the baskets a firmer structure. Made one for my bathroom to hold washcloths. Made another today for gloves in the hall. Now starting a third for scarves! I'm on a roll!! Thanks Mikey!
@The Crochet Crowd TY for explaining the definition of a beginner vs easy project, Mikey🙋♀️...I'm a beginner, so I've only completed 2 projects. A dishcloth & headband/earwarmer. I'm going to think positive and follow the upcoming tutorial! TYSM for the time & energy that you put into your channel. We appreciate it. Take care
Cool! I’m sort of new to crochet and didn’t know about the “split single” stitch. I love the look of it! Thank you for this great, easy to follow tutorial!
I'm not new to crochet and just barely learned about the split single crochet stitch! I think I like it! I recently got another pattern that called for that stitch and found this pattern! Glad I did! Love the basket and love that it looks like knitting! Now I can make those awesome dish cloths with this stitch too!
I would definitely do regular sc stitches for base and then switch to the split sc for the remainder of the basket. 👍 I absolutely love this! I was really on the fence with this O'Go yarn. This makes a functional item with just one and I love that! 😁👍👍😘
I have never tried the split single crochet. I'm very eager to try it though. You are right at first it's hard to see and when you would ask if we could see it at first I couldn't but then around row 3 I could see it. It's pretty cool. Thank you for sharing this with us .
Thank you so much Mickey, I really really enjoyed watching you create this Amazing and Stylish basket. It’s so very very useful too. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags
Woo hoo ! Can't wait to make these baskets for my daughter's new home !! While it's the weight l love I'm not sure how Ogo s priced so it'll have to wait until l find out but l have other yarns to use 🧶👍😃👍🧶
Thank you for a great tutorial!!! 🙏🙌 For a beginner, what size crochet hook would you recommend to make this with when using the Bernat Blanket O’Go yarn? I know that the pattern recommends using a 10mm (US N/15), would you recommend sticking with that or going up a size or two so that the stitches are easier to see? Thank you again.
Just how "easy" is it? I'm not very good at crocheting, but I'm pregnant after 12 years of trying to conceive, and multiple losses, including one quite late, so I've been wanting to make as much as I can by hand to make it all much more personal. These would be perfect for some nursery storage!
Depends on your ambition really. Beginner is the first stage of level, Easy is the next level up. This is a tough little stitch. It's still easy level but it's a bit tricky.
I heard "split single crochet " and went 'Huh?' Then I saw how it was done and went 'Duh!'. Lol I love how this looks like knitting as I'm not very proficient at knitting but I can make a crochet hook fly! Tyfs!
This is such a great tutorial, so clear and easy to follow. I’m curious- is the split single crochet used purely for the look or is it stronger or somehow better for these baskets? Are there other places where I could use it in place of single crochet?
I was wondering if you could make a crohoodie on your channel. I'm a visual learner so it would help a lot. I saw your pattern but its a little difficult to understand it when im just starting off.
Thank you for this tutorial. Can I ask: what is the benefit (for this project) in doing the split single crochet as opposed to just regular single crochet?
@@TheCrochetCrowd thank you so much!!! I also read someplace that it looks a lot like knitting- which is why it’s unique. Can’t wait to give it a try!!!
O'go is being discontinued here in the USA. Michael's is the only place that carried it and they just did a closeout on it....they discontinued all lines.
They are not discontinued there's a bigger issue at play with this. What's happened is the supply chain has seriously stalled the program because some stores are yet to get their product when it should have been placed in August. So they are doing a massive clearance as there is more coming as it was sitting too long in cargo holds due to worker shortage.
@@TheCrochetCrowd ...I just got mine from Michaels and the store manager said they were no longer going to carry it as it wasn't a big seller. Hobby Lobby doesn't carry it and JoAnn's has their O'go supersaver marked down to $3.79 US. I haven't been in JoAnn's in a while, but I never saw it in there. Mikey...If you have ANY influence on Bernat with the Blanket yarn, can they do a retro colors line? Colors of the 1950's and 1960's. I'd love to see "Mamie Pink" and "Jackie O Blue" as well as a chartreuse and several other of the vintage colors. I love the blanket yarn and since it washes up so well and is super easy to work with, it's the only one I'll use.

Hi first.. you’re just a hoot…I really enjoy these videos. However, I have a problem with crochet in the round for baskets as every time I try it just becomes a flat very large circle instead of a basket lol. This is my nightmare come to life on screen. When you said , on Rnds 10-29, it was supposed to go from flat to bowl to basket and that it will take a few revolutions to start to fold in………how many? I have this fear it will turn into a very pretty rug for a dollhouse …lol. For you, how long until it started to turn? 28,29, 50? This is the only issue I have…help!! Ironically, because I also Tunisian crochet, split-crochet is very easy for me. These are adorable and I want to make a set for my nephews wedding. Thanks for all you do and making crochet fun.
