This Man Gives Me Hope!🥺😭🙌🙏♥️💪 Thank you so very much for this!♥️ My mother and I brought a townhome in a suburb over a year ago, and have been going back and forth about selling it! The previous owner did slip up and say that the sale that fell through mentioned that the home was not insulated everywhere, and because of that the home is cold downstairs and hot upstairs.🤦‍♀️ Every time we have a conversation my mom tells me not to speak louder than a whisper because of the neighbors who rent next door! We live next to the corner but on one side the renters are extremely nosey, and it's to the point that they give themselves away whenever my mother says hi to them that they know even our phone conversations from their bathroom into my mothers master bath!😳🤦‍♀️ That's because the walls are so thin that you can hear anything from the master bath that is connected to the master bedroom and closet!🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ And the home on the other side at the corner we can hear the kids running up and down the stairs for hours each day, toys being thrown across the room, them using the first floor half bath, and every episode of cocomelon known to mankind!!! 😳🤦‍♀️😳😳🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

If you're tearing the wall apart, how about this? I read it in a Department of Defense manual years ago on soundproofing meeting rooms for classified information discussions. When you pull your side of the drywall off, make the wall 2 inches wider by installing a wider floor and ceiling piece, and add 2x4 studs that are midway between the other wall studs. Only, these don't attach to the opposite wall. Face then with your new wider floor and ceiling pieces and attach your drywall to them. Now there's no continual path of material between the two wall surfaces to transmit sound. Snake the soundproof insulation in-between, then add two layers of drywall.

Architect here. Also I’ve started by glueing Mass Loaded Vinyl to the original wall, then screw the resilient channel to the wall, then screw 1 layer of gyp bd with felt on the outside before screwing (screw carefully as to ONLY screw the floating end of the RC and NOT THRU The RC to THE WALL BEHIND). then glue the final layer of gyp bd. Glue is important cause the felt and acoustic glue will provide a cushion and fully separation on the wall. Ceiling just do the 2 layers of gyp screwed to the RC ... just carefully....again. LOL then finally at top and bottom of the walls use acoustic sealant at the gaps before any molding goes up. This seems like a lot BUT YOU WILL LOVE HOW QUIET IT IS !!!! The money and time spent IS WORTH IT.

@dreadpirates_
@dreadpirates_ 4 года назад
@@pooh-bunny9249 no sorry it is a little hard to interpret from how i worded it. No, its not a special product its just felt. The thicker the better. Sometimes its also called "acousti-mat" ... and is used on floors. But can be used on walls too ! Just put the felt on the gyp bd and screw both to the RC's floating leg. Use acoustic glue, it think its called "green glue" ... not positive... but the there is acoustic glue, and glue the final layer of gyp bd on top of that. Finish as usual. There is "acoustic paint" .... kinda helps but the jury is still out if its worth the $$$$ . Hope this helps and clarified things !!!! Good luck!!!

What are your suggestions for reducing noise from a DOWNSTAIRS neighbor? At night, I can hear a buzzing sound inside an interior wall (with no insulation). If I put my ear up to the wall, the sound seems quite loud. I don't think the sound is coming from the floor, tho Im unable to really localize the noise as it seems to come from everywhere! Im thinking about removing the wall, adding insulation and putting up QuietRock.
@powerWithinUs4055

I had weirdness in a high rise apartment building. Neighbor from downstairs came to say the noise was constant. Both my husband and I worked nights, gone when she was explaining the noise, We we're just at the corner of the building, probably metal studs, probably referred sound the whole floor, referring to the area. The wood tiles would make noise, needed more glue, but the noisy ones weren't even in a walk path,. The front doors to the units were heavy metal, it might have been referred noise. Thick carpeted on one side, metal threshold, bang. Self-closing doors. Bang. She described a tapping sound. Couldn't be a loose tile....it was repeating, plus concrete floors wouldn't transfer that sound. We weren't even home, the noise was configuration of the design. Might be an easy fix with green felt to the bottom of the doors themselves. Problem is, management would never agree. Over three years, all new people, so it can never be resolved. Think of the baseboard trim, if removing that molding, there might be a huge gap. Never get it back on again, the wood would splinter. But if you know the landlord....buying new. trim would not cost much and it's once and for all.

Awesome video! this is hope for me to block out my noisy neighbours! I have one question. It seems that tearing off the existing drywall will be a major and messy job as well as getting rid of what could remain as an additional barrier. Could I not simply build another wall ONTO that wall? Please (anybody) let me know your thoughts about this.
@CriticalThinker02
@CriticalThinker02 Год назад
You could do that, but you’re going to lose space (5 inches or more?) in the rooms where you build that wall. It also sounds more expensive because you’d be framing out an entire wall versus using the existing. And it’s still going to be somewhat messy because of the cutting for the framing, the drywalling, and painting that will need to be done.

I'm having this issue and I believe there is only fiberglass insulation in the walls. Plans say 57 STC. Do you think its worth it to tear the wall out (Ill need strata approval) and change the fiberglass to safe and sound from roxwell, or leave the existing wall and put a layer of soundproof sonopan (I dont have soundproof drywall in my area) and another layer or drywall? Any idea how much of a difference this would make?
@bearclaw5115
@bearclaw5115 Год назад
The sonopan website actually shows that it is generally not worth tearing apart your existing drywall just to add insulation. That's a ton of work of 2 stc I think. Technically yes, it would have the better end result but it is not easy or cost effective.

The effects were considerable but still not perfect as its a renovated garage with old creaky wood floors above. You could also glue on cheap hard foam 2" panels with a good sound rating, I did this for one of my walls and it worked well. but it might not look as good as a smooth ceiling but it depends, i'm not fussy. Hi I have lived in my townhouse for almost 12 years with minimum noise complaint but that all changed when we got new neighbors on December 2, 2020. I remember this day clearly because this was the day mine and my family’s life was turned upside down. They are a family of five three kids and mom dad. My master bedroom is the shared wall so we can hear the chaos coming from there unit. Sometimes starting at 7 in morning. Not only do we hear the shouting crying but the problem we are having is the kids slamming doors, furniture moving around. Jumping slapping the walls, constantly with no parental intervention. @soundproofguide
@soundproofguide 4 года назад
Resilient channel would work wonderful if you have the space. If the wall is empty , meaning without any built in countertop stuck onto it then resilient channel would be a good idea. Now a lot of people would tell me that it’s overkill to add yet another layer of soundproofing BUT when someone is ready to spend thousands of dollars to move out, a few hundred dollars more isn’t bad idea. I would add 2 layers of 5/8 drywall if you’re able to. It’s an inexpensive way to soundproof. I would do the same on the ceiling. Resilient channel is more meant for ceilings typically because it does a great job in limiting impact noise (foot stomping on floor causing vibrational noise). Thanks for watching! Give us an update when you’re done!

Tearing down existing drywall just to add insultation is not a good idea generally. Your adding tremendously to the cost and effort of the job for a gain of only 2 STC. If you are going to tear the wall apart you should definitely add staggered studs to the wall which will make a much larger difference. But I think most people could just add a layer of 5/8 drywall to the wall. If that doesn't do enough add another layer. For only $15 a sheet, it's a cheap solution. Bear in mind none of these solutions will help with impact noise (foot steps, slamming doors). That kind of noise spreads through the structure and is known as flanking noise. That needs to be controlled by carpet, carpet pads, underlayment and newer building techniques. I wish you all the best in your quest for peace and quiet.
