Thanks for stopping by. I've been itching to bust out some Immortal for years. This was probably one of the first i heard and right away the riffs and blast beats won me over. Always enjoyed the riffs and sounds they put out. Abbath's guitar style is very interesting to study and also fun to try and replicate.

Oh no, you're looking for "At the heart of winter" if you want to hear Immortal combining Thrash and black metal perfectly. I'd say that Sons of NOrthern Darkness was more black metal than thrash but still I get what you mean. XD \m/

You could honestly say that about the band as a whole. They are black metal as hell, but they incorporated some very excellent thrash elements into a lot of songs. I think that's what sets them apart and gives them a unique place in the genre.

Abbath was writing/playing guitar for Immortal when this album was recorded/released. Demonaz was out of action at the time and his style was noticeably different.

If you check Abbath's lesson there's just a few single string notes missed from the intro. It sounds good enough though, well played.

With immortal it's later stuff is always in D standard, early stuff in E. To save you researching buttloads about string guages, just get yourself some 52-10's, get used to them, and forget about string guages. Cuz practicing is more important than the worrying nerdy stuff YEHEHEAAAH!
