@@BigHairyGuitars I caught a little of the new Nuno solo influence. Nice. Also the recording of the combo is borderline perfect! Now the catch. How does it sound in the room vs the miced sound here? Sometimes you get great on tape sound but it can sound ultra dark or congested in the room. Another cath. I always run a 112 combo alongside a 4x12 high gain amp (one preamp or two amps together). The speakers sort of fill each other out.
@@81giorikas When I'm sitting next to the cab, it sounds like a small 412. Lots of weight to it. When you mic it, it's much more midrange pushed. So when it's mic'd I learned that I prefer the mid knob below need mostly. My SLO100 into 412, I like the mid knob above noon. When I plugged the SLO30 into the 412 the 412 was way more scooped sounding. The 1x12 combo was WAY easier to get the leads to sit in the right place. I agree, the middle ground between 112 midrange and 412 scale is the sweet spot.
@@BigHairyGuitarsWas it a 16 ohm speaker? The redback. Man after reading Steve fryette's analysis that depending on speaker impedance the same speaker sounds a lot different another world opened up for me. 16 ohm cabs vs 8 with the same speakers are looser with more bass and treble. But also for me have an easy fizz going on when miced. My brunetti and soldano mic easier on 8 ohms. As a transformer is a lens, the impedance of the speaker changes what the tubes see in analog. I saw that you have the 8 ohm redback speaker picture but what imoedance is in the soldano?
@@spasticjackson9578 I tend to wear my influences on my sleeve, but I hadn't really considered Vernon. ALTHOUGH, love Vernon, so he's in there somewhere.
@BigHairyGuitars Awesome to hear about an album Michael! I just bought my 2nd Amp Smasher Navy shirt. First one worn out. Thanks for restocking more of these great shirts!
And for just $3,400 plus taxes and shipping, IT CAN BE YOURS! JFC, it's not an affordable amp. Who is this amp designed for? Lawyers who play guitar as a hobby? Really great playing and tone!
Hi! Thanks!!! Soldano has always been a premium brand. Not really much different than Dumble, but then Dumbles got more rare. A head is about $2900 which is a little better. But Mesa MK5 combo, TwoRock combos, all in the same range or more. There are ways to get the SLO tone much cheaper. The SLO pedal sounds AMAZING! And there are lots of great software plugin options that sound really convincing. Thankfully there’s Soldano options at every price point now
Michael is that SLO 30 the same as the head they have been making when it was released a few years back or is this a new version other than it being in a combo format?
Major Nuno vibes! Sounding awesome man! You’ve definitely been bringing it in these videos you’ve been doing lately. Jealous of the tones and the playing!
I bought a Marshal DSL20cr, still within the return period.... seriously thinking of returning the marshall for this bad boy.... hmmm... (Last time I looked into Soldano, I didn't see this.. are they new?)
Holy crap dude! I think I prefer you to Pete Thorn, whom I love. His demo originals have the spirit of "I can play anything." Which you can as well- but your songs are more "This is my style": Groovy, vibey, chops.
Great one Michael. Thanks for the incredible playing, tones, and the feel good vibes i get everytime i come to your site. You are a national treasure my man. Thank you!
Another of yours videos that one must see 3 times: one for the awesome song, one for your f**ing good playing... and yes, the last for the great Soldano tone!
I keep coming back to this video. These are THE sounds that I always gravitate toward. I’ve got a Rectoverb 25 1x12 that’s similar but a bit more compressed. I’ve got a modded Victory V30, through a closed back 1x12 with an M65 cream back, that’s a bit edgier and higher powered. This just sounds perfect. Well done, sir! You nail the tones in my head.
That opening cut definitely felt like it had some "Buck Dharma"isms in it, both in the riffs and leads whenever you went away from the whammy. GREAT tune and GREAT playing.
The revelation for me here was the Redback - I already knew you were a great player who extracts wicked tones from pretty much everything. Guess I shall have to acquire one!
How awesome, a Soldano combo 30 watt. Sounds great. If you don’t have need it to be portable…..55 pounds and around $3400. Love it but my Friedman PT combo does that trick for me at much less and light weight. But, I know it probably doesn’t have that great Soldano sound that cuts through the mix. If they could make another option at 20 watts, lighter, and closer to $2000 that would be great.
Man, the crunch mode on Ch.1 with the Les Paul… that’s some good stuff. Bet it would sound great with a good boost in front of it. OD pedals and an SLO? Sacrilege! Except for Gary Moore. That’s how he used his.
Was wondering how long it would take for them to come out with a combo of the SLO….very cool. There’s absolutely nothing on the planet that sounds as good as a perfectly dialed in SLO crunch channel (IMHO). That clean may not have a signature sound to it, but it’s still VERY good.
Hi Brett! Thanks man!!! They're killer. Head is also quite nice because it give you lots of cab options. I *think* I might like the SLO30 better than my SLO100.
Finally someone sticks a single coil Fender into an SLO-30 clean channel without the bright or crunch switch...or some sh!ty pedal no one has ever heard of or cares about...even if it was only for 18 seconds...that was glorious thank you
Had to put my head in the freezer after that EPIC jam!! Hoping my brain will congeal back into a fully formed brain shape, after you melted it... Sick Bro!!
Holy crap Mike! I always watch your 80's inspired videos (as a fellow rack gear nerd and MI grad/LA session guy from the early 2000's) THIS video showcase your chops like ive never witnessed you play. It looked effortless and the melody was fun, driving and complex enough to keep us watching! You're the man! Even though you never emailed or called me back when I contacted Ninja Tracks
Hi Michael, amazing playing as usual! Quick slightly offtopic question.. I'm able to pick up a Japanese SP-77 for $600. Any reason not to? I'd love to have a real Soldano piece in my studio! I asked one of the Dutch top session players for his opinion and he said it definitely doesn't sound as good as the other Soldano preamps.. It sounds pretty kickass in your video though!
Hi Michael, Another amazing & cool sounding demo you wrote here. How do you come up with stuff with ease? I've heard great things about the Soldano SLOs. If you had to pick one amp b/w this Soldano SLO 100 vs the Bogner Ubershall Ultra MKII, which would you pick?
Hi thanks Yoshi! Those two amps are super different. The SLO is definitely more rock and roots. The Ubershall wants to be hard rock and metal. So, I would base my decision on the style of music that you play.
Great demo man! Sounds soooo killer...I've been chewing on this one for a long time. I need another head like a hole in the head....I find myself using the fractal slo 100 for cleans too. Actually for my arch top. Is the clean in the 30 similar? Also use the crunch for everything else and use the guitars volume. It's really the only models I'm using on the fractal...I should try it and get a power station.
Hi ...l enjoy all your videos your knowlege about gear and recording is super and your playing is world class! P.S. l hope one day you can make a video on the peavey Imvective 120...wile there are many videos about this amp most of them feature one tone and one style ..that is chuguing away! Unlike your videos were all the diferent characters of the gear is showcased ...l mean you nail it in all the aspects and show all the things an amp can do wile delivering killer riffage with all the posibilities clean, crunch, fluid leads no matter your videos deliver thanks!
This guy makes the Amp sound good .. What a great player ..his funky rhythmic timing really adds tothe cool licks he's playing ..and what a vibrato too .
Gary Moore was also responsible for one of the worst guitar sounds ever, like on corridors of power ( if I remember correctly) sounds like he used a DI to record his guitar
