Man... you made it sound great! I am not near the player are you are, but the tones you got made me feel a lot better about my demo of this amp. The BJF-S66 is great. Nice job as always J.

It’s cool. With a mixture of tube and digital tech for different applications, I think all my tonal needs are being met. Really just here to be entertained by your playing. Great job!

Great demo Jay - impressive little amp! My back says go for the small stuff LOL. This with a small board of pedals and a cab could get you so much tonal versatility. We as musicians have reached a point as to whatever we pick (modelers or tubes and pedals), we really can’t go wrong. It pretty much has become a scenario of what brands do we want to be seen with in our gig bags :-)

I have and play tube, solid state, and digital amps. For banging them up and down the road I actually like the solid state stuff. They are light, durable, economical, and sound pretty decent. I'm glad to see amp companies starting to make good quality solid state gigging amps again. The kind without too many useless knobs switches, effects, and other junk packed into them. Looks like Quilter was on to something and now others are jumping on board.

That is one sweet sounding amp!! Great demo too! Truth be told though, I believe that for me at least, my little class A tube combo is where I need to be. You sure did make that rig sing!

IMHO, everything has its place. Looks great for a fly rig or cramped stage. Personally, i feel better even with a small tube amp. That being said, it's a great sounding unit and i certainly wouldn't complain about using it on a gig if it proved reliable.

Real nice playing, Jay. It's a nice sounding amp, but you brought it up a notch, methinks. Personally, as much as I love my tube amps, the SS/modeling idea gets more attractive all the time. In no small part because they're starting to sound really good. I'm playing a boutique-ish 18-watt Marshall clone. The 2x12 combo cab is a bit heavy. But my bigger issue is getting the sound I want at manageable volumes in the small clubs we play. Just being able to set the master volume(s) to the room without any real changes to my tone ... well, that has great appeal. Thanks for the review.

I have a collection of vintage tube amps that ALWAYS sound good with distortion pedals. My Quilter IB45 and Microblock45 and Strymon Iridium simply do not take distortion/overdrive as well. They are more convenient and very reliable, but that is their weakest point. They sound great clean. The Iridium takes distortion better. This amp sounds better to me. Of course, a gig is the only way to really know. Great demo, love your attitude and playing.

This is a great video. The half cranked, dynamics sounds is what often lacks in most modelling or switched power amps. I don't mind using ss circuits or tube circuits. What lacks in response usually is the power amps working together with the speakers with negagtive flyback into the transformer and so on. When one cranks a Fender Twin in clean mode, the initial attack of the note - i e before the string oscillates and creates a waveform - makes a percussive thump which is "scaring" and exploding burst of both the output tubes and the speaker cone together. Especially when you lean in and whack the low strings hard. There's nothing wrong with these kinds of amps at all, but considering the pace in which companies churns out the latest solid state switched lightwrigth poweramps, and some other includes modelling, they each time hypes it with "now it's even better" or "now or plexi modelling is much better", and so it goes on year after year. Conclusion: these kind of amps are an never ending ever ongoing quest to nail a sound, that is already set with tube amps. I've never ever seen such things with Fender Twins, Marshall Plexis although they changed the innards without us noticing. IRL tube amps are sort of "finished" so to speak, they mostly work on vintage sounds, or high gain metal amps and the total output in Watts instead. All in all I think there's too little focus on the initial attack and punch of the note, as metallists would say "chuggah" as an onomatepoetic reference.

Nice job Jay! Playing is stellar and, as always, so is your explanation. These sound great through a 4X12 cab w/ effects too! (although may defeat the smallness factor....:-)

Got to say that amp sounds good I'm more into sound then tube snobbery and right now I'm playing an inexpensive tube amp but if the price is right I might be feeling a little froggy.

P.S Seems everything/everywhere is getting smaller and compact, who doesnt love a good tube amp? But at the same time, were all always looking for great tone, no matter where it comes from. I can imagine this, and a couple great pedals will do some justice Thanks Jay

This little amp looks and sounds good. Was intrigued until I found the retail price. Once you add a cab with decent speaker your pushing $1000 or more. Fender should take note though for their new “Tonemaster” series. Add the features that this unit has to go along with the vintage styling.

Nice job JLJ👍. Liked the use of the Silver Bee. I wonder how you feel about it vs a black face, in terms of feel/response? I am interested in this one - light weight vs my tube amps... IF there are no tonal distractions, and levels are usable in a live situation😉. Check out Visual Guy and Hans Johansson demos as well.

That's a great sounding small amp? 100 watts of power isn't small by any stretch of the imagination though. One Control seems to have a limited web presence though, they should complain to Google, the "unbiased" predictive algorithm's hard at work again apparently. You did a very thorough demo, highlighting a wide range of styles and tones the amp handles well, great job!

I’m curious about using this amp, or one like it, into a recording interface. I’m sure it works but I guess the quality of the cab sim application and end result is what I’m wondering. Did you try that?
@JayLeonardJ
@JayLeonardJ 5 лет назад
You would still need an amp sim to go with the unit: The preamp out doesn't have power amp or cab modelling. Try checking out the 2 note stuff. You can use their Wall of Sound plug in with this amp and it would sound awesome!

He didn't test the fx loop with a pedal. If he did he would've heard the huge volume boost when you turn the pedal on. If the pedal is off, no boost. Only if you turn on the pedal.
@barrysebastian9584
@barrysebastian9584 5 лет назад
Steely Dan I saw your other post on this. Did you get verification? I’m curious, because I’m considering one. I don’t typically use a fx loop (old tube amps), but a level mismatch is not good.
@JayLeonardJ
@JayLeonardJ 5 лет назад
Have you tried putting a buffered pedal in your effects loop? It may fix the impedance issue you would get with passive effects loops.

It's not a wall wart. It's closer to a laptop power supply. It won't take up any more room on a power strip than a standard power cord.
