In this video, One Down Four to Go! I talk about my recent experience at my local coin shops looking for a $10 Indian gold piece. It happened faster than I thought, and I was able to secure this nice 1932 in an older PCGS slab graded MS62. While I'm not a fan of slabbed modern bullion, I do see the value in older numismatic type coins. The remaining four coins I am looking for are: $50 Reverse Proof Buffalo, $5 Indian, Type 2 1 oz AGE, and the Perth Mint Double Dragon.

Hey Sean, thanks for coming by. I think the numis game is a very expensive one. I'd rather just stack bullion, but these have just always been on my list for some, and of course the type 2 more recently.

Ha! That's the date I'm looking for in the $10 Indian. I'm glad that you got one of your goal coins. I like the Mexican gold too. The Dos Pesos are really easy to sell since they're so small. You can often make a decent profit by selling them p2p. Thanks for sharing your pick up with us and enjoy your weekend!

Pre 33 is often counterfeited and if one is buying raw, they better be buying from an individual who knows their stuff. I like the old green holder and you got a nice deal for that '32. Congrats on getting the first coin on your goal list! I wish I still had my raw $5 Indians, I would sell it to you but I sold them last spring. My unofficial goal is to grab a 1909-O $5 Indian. You'll choke when you see pricing on those, if you can find them. I doubt it will be in one of your shops. Most LCS will throw up a rare gold piece on eBay since they can get a lot for it before trying to sell it to their physical customers. Unless they were asked to keep an eye out.

One of my LCSs is more of an antique store than a coin shop, despite thousands of coins, bills and tokens, etc. He has slabbed coins marked in the tens of thousands but never moves them. I see the same coins year after year. Doesn't seem like the best business model. Sell one coin after two years and make $5k profit or sell 30 coins during the same two years and make $500 profit each. I am aware that the pre-33 stuff can be counterfeited, including the slabs! Bunch of crap. Liars and thieves ruin everything good in the world. /off soap box. Ok, so four more to go. Can't wait to see what's next, though you pointed me in the right direction and, well, enough said. :)

Nice $10 Indian Head! I got mine in 2016 in A/U raw for $729 from APMEX, of all places. Got my $5 Indian Head for $424 that same year. Got the $2.50 Indian Head from my Mom, who got it from here uncle when she was a little girl. Its been circulated because I noticed some uneven wear on the coin. Hard to Imagine people spending actual gold coins for goods and services. My 2013 Reverse proof buffalo I bought in 2015 (raw with OGP) for$1498. At the time I bought these I felt they were a little overpriced but I just wanted one of each. Fast forward to today and I am glad I bit the bullet back then and got them. Have a great day everyone!

I've been wanting this Coin for quite awhile a few weeks ago my local LCS had got one inn but unfortunately it wasn't in the best condition 😕 I guess whoever owned it they didn't necessarily understand what they exactly had ...But these are very nice .. A coin like this in most cases I don't prefer the slabs but with these Pre-33 Gold Bullion coins I think would prefer the slabs

Yeah bullion is bullion and we buy that stuff for weight, not necessarily condition, but the pre-33 coins are something special, more of a valuable history lesson! Thank you for the comment!

Sweet find! I don't keep slabbed ones either, except for special circumstances or gifts or super good deals you can't pass up. That super high premium is hard to justify, right? Sounds like you did well with it. Congrats! Our gold stack is paltry but growing. Boise is just too far for us or I'd be haunting that place to see if we could do better! We haven't much here for an LCS, as you know. But I've found some deals online. JUST KEEP LOOKING!

For that exact some reason I like going to the LCS over calling them as well. Plus calling takes up their time I feel like. I hope to make it to my LCS today actually, if they have one of the last 4 on your list, I'll send you their info so you can contact them about it if you would like.

Question- when you visit an LCS, do you always pick something up? Even if it's small or not something you were looking for, just to maintain the relationship? Or do you only pick up what you want even if it means leaving empty handed?

Great question. I do not always pick something up for the sake of the relationship. I have no problem walking out when the price isn’t right. But that wasn’t always the case. Early on I felt obligated to spend money in exchange not only for the metal, but also for the time I was taking from the LCS and learning from them. Now I feel comfortable dropping by and saying hello just to say hello. No pressure to buy. I’ll send them text messages asking what’s new in the case, and so on. Sometimes we just shoot the breeze, but I always respect that they are there to make a living.

Ugh I know. I tried to buy another raw one cheap but was outbid. It was kind of slick and I thought what a great piece to just be able to hold and imagine the stories behind it!

It's amazing how every grade up from 62, 63, 64, 65 and so on command, particularly in the highers grades, substantially more of a cost. Glad I'm not a high-end collector!

Congratulations man! I need to get into other LCS’s, rosehill is my go to just because it’s so close to my work. But I have a suspicion they are one of the more expensive around here.

Well I think it would serve you well to do so, no question about it. While my favorite shop doesn’t always have the best selection on hand, it’s because they are simply plowing through so much volume. If you are looking for a lot of numismatic type coins, again, not the biggest selection. Still, once you get to know them they are fantastic people just like the people over at Rose Hill.

All 5 very nice coins to have. I love the $5 Indian and buffalo for U.S. gold. The $10 libery or $10 Indian head as a lot calls her is a great way to start the list good luck with the rest and thanks for sharing. I have picked up 1.5oz so for so 9.5 to go...there is actually a big coin show hear on the 5th of Feb i will be picking up at least another 1.5 oz or more....I am wishy washy in the sense that i like it all and never know what to get. Like you i got to set a gold goal of what coins to buy

@@VerticalStacker Thank You I appreciate that! I have been stacking for long time now. At one point had a little over 40oz of Gold but sold more than half for home renovations. Going to try to get back over that 35 oz mark this year. Last year I only purchased maybe one or two oz.

@@VerticalStacker man, a lot of people have been breaking their slabs open for that reason. I don't buy slabbed coins, but silver stacks pepper just did a video breaking them open.
