I honestly think that's an even more clever way to solve the riddle than the traditional solution. The traditional solution being you ask guard 1 what type of guard (lying or truth telling) guard 2 would say guard 1 is. If the guard says "He would say I tell the truth", then that's the lying guard. If he says "He would say I lie", then that's the truth telling guard.
@russellmz
@russellmz 3 месяца назад
@@consideringorthodoxy5495 that gives you the truth and liar identities but the classic puzzle gives you one question to ask to get the correct path. so the classic solution asks which path to take +the loopdeloop part of the question + you going the opposite direction.
@AverageLadd

@@consideringorthodoxy5495 The traditional solution is to ask one of the guards which way the other guard would tell you to go, and then go the opposite way. If you ask guard 1 what guard 2 would say and he says right, go left, because if guard 1 is lying, then it means he is lying about what guard 2 would say, and if guard 1 is telling the truth then he would tell you truthfully what guard 2 would say, so you go the opposite way.

If he’d specified the rules correctly, you have one question that can only be asked to one of the guards, problem solved. @AndrewHalliwell So, the way our DM did it, he said "Each of you is permitted to ask one question" there were four of us, so he was probably trying to make sure all of us could contribute, he just (for whatever reason) assumed that my bard, who's go-to move for the entire game was vicious mockery, wouldn't be a smart-ass in this one instance.

@OldTownPhantom
@OldTownPhantom 8 месяцев назад
@proton8239 in his defense, we absolutely botched a puzzle earlier mostly because someone in our group cant tell the difference between radius and diameter, so I don't blame him for simplifying it. But according to the DM, he figured we would ask questions specific to the dungeon or to the guardians to narrow down who was telling the truth. He just overlooked the fact that stupidly simple questions could break the puzzle. But, honestly, who cares? We laughed our asses off and have a funny story to tell, so who cares if we did the puzzle correctly.

I found "how to beat the Labyrinth" and the guards puzzle is beatable with this rule - you get to ask one guard one question. The question you should ask is, what will the other guard say is the safe fork in the path? If Path A is safe and Path B is unsafe, the lying guard will say that the other guard recommends Path B (he thinks you'll spot the lie.) The truthful guard, asked the same question, will say that the other guard lies and will recommend Path B (he also thinks you'll spot the lie.) The solution is to always choose Path A or the opposite of what either guard says.
