One Gun, Glock 19 After 14yrs

This is the second Glock I ever acquired over 14yrs ago.
Many great pistols have come and gone in that time, but this one has stuck around through it all.
While there are certainly other great options available, I'm simply not able to keep all of them.
So in that time I have become quite proficient with this Generation 4, and now have more than 50,000rnds through it.
A testament to the durability, availability of parts, and longevity of a well-built tool that is taken care of.
The slide, barrel, and frame are all orignal.
Basic wear and tear will occur, as such certain parts have been replaced; all of the springs, the locking block, and numerous RSA units in the course of my use.

I finally bought a Seiko King Turtle, and its my first and probably the last automatic watch. Had a Casio G-shock that my dad bought in 1991 had it till 2011 until it died. I bought the same year a Suunto Core all black to have in on the SF OTC (they allowed us a watch with an altimeter). Took this Suunto around the world on combat deployments, mountains, desert, oceans, jungles and is for me personally the best watch I ever owned. Had to open it couple of times to clean the buttons because they got stuck (African fine sand), but it’s still waterproof and works great. In 2021 the original plastic watch bands got worn out so since then I replaced them two times with Chinese copies… Also carried G 19 for personal protection 24/7 for years and is a pistol I trust my life with. Hehehe also owned a Toyota Land Cruiser diesel and had it running on cooking oil hehehe. Stay safe and God bless!

I like the words than came out from this man. I am 67 years old and have been a gunowner since 1993. I am lucky enough to own multiple guns from multiple brands(HK, Sig, SW, SA, CZ, Beretta, Glock, Browning....). If I am only limited to one gun, I would choose to have my Glock 19 Gen 5. It is simple to operate, reliable, light enough to carry, heavy enough to be my house gun, parts are readily available, has a track record to back it up. It is not the most accurate gun that I have, it is not the most expensive gun I have, it does not have the bling factor. But it is the most practical gun to have if I can only have one.

There's such beauty in a person who cherishes one thing they have in particular and has spent massive amounts of time with it. Someone's carry gun is as good an example as any, and if it's going to only be one gun for over a decade at a time, it might as well be a Glock.

I don’t like touching Glocks messing up the reliability that’s it for me. But I kept a future collectible that I’ll probably never get rid of Jericho steel f9 pre-2019, beautiful piece.

Cool video. I have the exact same setup. Same gen 4 19 with that Magpul magwell. Love how it forces my hand higher up. I have Teijicon night sites on mine. I have tried other guns for carry, including the M&P Compact 2.0 but the thicker Glock grip feels so good it’s like it was made for me. I have a HK45 for hiking in the mountains. 45ACP will kill a black bear or a man. You can’t go wrong with a Glock or HK product.

Loved my 19, had it for four years and it was often the only pistol that I owned. I kinda regret selling it. I've devolved a bit and gone 1911 because it works a little better for me in a couple of ways; it solves some pet peeves I have with most handguns and how they fit and function in my hands, but the G19, especially the Gen 4 like you have, is a fantastic pistol. I might buy another one.

Very nice! I carried a cz75d pcr for 9 years. Simplicity is often the best path. I actually carry a PSA dagger now. Liked it better than my Glocks. Once I got past 3k rounds on it with no malfunctions I deemed it good to go. Takes Glocks mags, parts, was half the cost with same functionality and better ergonomics.

I've carried on and off, a G19 since 2011. I have had a rotation of other types of guns as well, but I always go back to the G19. Not always the same G19, as my carry now is a 19.5 with night sights, in a G-code holster. My other hand guns, like my home defense G47, have light, Holosun 507c, Radian Afterburner + Ramjet, but I like basic when I carry. Thus a basic Gen 5 G19 with Glock night sights and Talon rubber grip tape.

I've carried a 19 since my 21st birthday. I've just recently bought a dagger micro to use in the summer time. the 19 is the jack of all trades. I use a G17 at work, and can't say that it shoots much better than the 19. It has worked just fine for me all this time. I will give the smaller gun a go and see if it's significantly more comfortable to carry in the Summer time or not.

I have my duty issue G17 from a past life. Great piece, but I see no good reason to carry it much. Like you, I don't find that it brings me any benefits, and the increase in size just means more effort to conceal. I do prefer the G17 mags if I'm going to carry a spare because they index much easier for me. The shorter G19 mags can be funky to manipulate with my hands getting in the way...
@BlueRidgeCritter
@BlueRidgeCritter 29 дней назад
Really good video! And a good choice. When you said " Is it the best gun? ", one thing you have to think about is... Best at what? I have owned and shot plenty of brands, and there are some very good ones, some have more features, better triggers, whatever. Glock has the reliability and simplicity crown. They're all good, but you define the best by whatever your criteria is. I'm like you, I prefer the 19, or I also love the 26. And for the past year, the 27, But again, I just prefer Glock for that reliability warm and fuzzy. I'm testing out a PDP that is very promising, but ultimately I probably will always keep the Glocks. Easy to find parts for, easy to maintain and repair... Yep. And by the way, I have had all the generations, and the Gen 5 barrel is more accurate for me than any of the others. So if you did upgrade, I do recommend a Gen 5.

@PhotoCaptured
@PhotoCaptured 29 дней назад
@AN_APPEAL_2_HEAVEN I have very rarely heard of anyone buring out a pistol barrel; one of the very few... is Miles over @TacticalHyve when he put over 50k through an orignal Sig P365. Multiple factors there, and I don't know all of them, but I think we can agree that anyone putting 50k through a micro compact is pretty rare. Larger pistols tend to have fewer stress factors, while the smaller ones take more punishment. Especially if the carry ammo is on the hotter side. I don't agree with all the methods they practice, but Tactical Hyve is doing wonders for the 2A community. In particular, for the people of California, so they are well worth the support. Even if you just watch their content, and give your input occasionally.

Thanks for your thoughts on this subject. I envy you. I got interested in guns for personal protection in 2015 in my late 50s. I have spent thousands of $$$ on lots of pistols, searching for the perfect piece, and now have a safe full that I would like to sell. I shoot every week but it is always a different pistol (I enjoy them all). I wonder how much more confident and competent I would be if I had stuck with one pistol for carry and one or two for home defense. If one is going to stick to one handgun the Glock is a fine choice---shoot it as much as you desire and can afford--for as you said, it is reliable and easy to clean and maintain. And not expensive to own long term.
@PhotoCaptured
@PhotoCaptured 29 дней назад
@stevestone5671 thank you for the detailed comment and nod sir. One of my uncles is Dutch, and I learned a thing or two about buying once - and always go for quality when possible. If you didn't know, the Dutch people are why we have copper wire! Two men were quibbling over a penny, and before long they discovered that they could sell the wire for more than what the one penny was worth. I have nothing against collecting, in fact I have several pieces that I'm rather proud of. But there's also the cost factor and reality that I'm just a humble man, with limited means. My wife and our families come first, so my finances are generally spoken for. Words I live by - invest your time and energy well, because God only gives us one life to live. There's a lot to enjoy, and the things I spend my money on have to be long lasting. Otherwise it just becomes a hassle.

In the EDC role, I much prefer a little extra comfort and the guarantee that I will always carry it. There are times that clothing or work allows for me to pull it off and not feel like I'm getting jabbed all day. The handheld high power lights are much preferred in my use case, and I can very effectively make hits while manipulating the light with my other hand. Yes, there are certainly some downsides, but I ALWAYS have a light on me when I'm out and about. Usually a I have a Pro-Tac 2L-X or Cloud EDC on me 👌

@CheJoffre much appreciated ✌️ I don't "script" myself, so it really comes down to what quality content I can focus on. Not so much in relevance sake, but being up front and clear for some who don't want to be bombarded by the long timers. There are a number of great guys who have put out impressive content, and I'll leave them to their skill area. I'm hoping to keep things fresh and generally focus on long-term use. The new and shiny isn't necessarily going to be a thing on my channel. Nothing against it, I'm just a tried and true sort, so I'll stay in my lane.

Great review! I like guns but haven’t gotten into them too much, other than owning a few when I was younger. As a newbie, I’m curious, how do you keep track of how many rounds have cycled through your gun?

@Faben202 Dude, welcome to the awesome world of firearms. Here's to many years of safe use! I'm actually working on my layout to explain this on video, but here's the short of it. I keep a Field Notes dot journal for each firearm I own, and simply mark off a tally for each box of ammo put through it, and when I do a parts change or replacement due to wear. It's definitely excessive in some ways, but I figured if armed forces and police armorers are doing it, then it might be useful for me. This is an example of what some of my tallies look like written up rather than just marked in the notebook. Walther PDP Compact SD Pro 02-24-2023 806rnds on Standard Silver RSA 21rnds Green Suppressor RSA 04-03-2023 Holosun 507C-GR added at 92rnds (Replacement under warranty, on stand-by) 509T mounted at 516rnds (New Battery on 509T Duracell, 06-26-2024) Savage Apex 110 .300Win-Mag 10-08-2021 63rnds Suppressed 57rnds (Zero confirmed with Federal/Barnes 180gr TSX factory load.) I indicate suppressed versus bare bones because the suppressor can increase back pressure on some firearms. Rather than nitpick which ones are affected, I just indicate for all accordingly.

can you explain why/how you cut the beavertail? Also interested in the material/putty you used on it to make it less flimsy. Great video and loving this type of long form content. Thanks again!

@elyperez9885 Gen4 and 5 come with backstrap options in the box when new, otherwise Amazon is your friend. I prefer factory, so I'd recommend getting those 👌 My method is to measure 5-8 lines of texture down from the trigger housing pin/backstrap keeper. Then I make a mark on each side, and use heavy kitchen scissors to cut the lower part of the strap off. Once that is down I just snip each sharp corner to start my blending process. Buff it all with some 400 grit sand paper, make sure it is contoured and blended nicely, and mount it. If you really want it to stay in place, but still be removed for yearly cleaning, I pack a pea size glob of Gorilla brand poster putty under the upper portion after warming it in my fingers. Firmly, but gently press it into place so it spreads out, and then push the pin through. Mine has held up perfectly for a little more than 2yrs now with no issues. The end result is a beavertail to avoid slide bite, while not increasing the overall grip circumference. I may have huge hands, but I really don't need the extra girth to get a good firing grip on my pistols. That said I shoot the G20 with or without the backstrap, and even a P226 with the medium (bulky) grip just fine. My draw is much more consistent with the backstrap, and I don't have any issues with slide bite. Many, many, guys shoot just dine without the beavertail mod, but I find it to be a game changer. So I take every edge I can, while still keeping the whole G19 as bone stock as possible. No send off work, and no customization that I cannot easily repeat myself. I'll be doing a video soon showing the whole process, and what it does for me 😎

What do you do for maintenance? Do you clean regularly and what oil do you use?

Based on your huge hands and while you tried a lot already, give a CZ P-10(c) a chance. Most of the meaty shovel hand guys like it. Recoil is not as nice, but the trigger is a bit nicer on the latest ones. Thanks for showing the wear and what you replaced. How often did you change the springs (recoil, striker and the guides)?
