Learn how to play a one handed roll with your left hand. This is a video about the first steps I took going after the one handed roll traditional grip.
Check out that radio king :P

So far, the best explanation to me! Simple and real! Thanks so much!!!

So I'm making an assumption here, that you haven't seen any Jojo Mayer videos showing the reverse stroke, which is exactly what you're pulling off here. What amazes me about drum and technique is that you seemed to develop this purely independent of the reverse stroke concept, but it's still the exact same thing. It's just cool, it's like Newton and Leibniz developing calculus purely independently. Also thank you very much, I have not seen an in-depth explanation of this, so now I can teach my students. Despite being the video being 6 years old, keep up the good work man.

You make the finger tap switch from above to the side, in the traditional position, look easy. When I go from above to traditional position, the stock just moves from side to side rather than up and down. I'll keep working on this, obviously. The first part was interesting, it all us tbh, but how you used your fingers with your thumb to play that blues'shuffle in the one handed roll, never seen that laid out in that way. Thanks.

I really like your presentation. What you are showing not only helps with learning the one handed roll technique, but helps with the finger control technique also. Good going my friend. I have some videos under the name "daniel casher" some are video drum lessons and some are little solos. I also play traditional grip most of the time, and I grew up in the 60's playing a lot of R&B and jazz. I never practiced the technique you are showing, but I think I'm gonna pull out the practice pad and metromone and work on it. Thanks.

This is the best instruction I have seen on Buddy's left hand yet; be it in vids, books or otherwise. Keep up the good work and please make (post) another one if you find there is something else you'd like to share (we should know). Thank you.

Buddy Rich mostly used Slingerland drums with a patent stick saver rim , the snare head was slanted downward about 25 degrees and closer to his lift hand ✋ to get more bouncing action !! The traditional way will cause soreness and calluses on your left hand to develop in a given time . Knowing all the techniques can make a much better drummer to play. Thank you for showing your left hand roll videos !! Please continue 🙏 !!

Would it be correct to say that you are using a double stroke technique until you turn your hand over using fingers and then go to a single strokes in the technique. Thanks for posting!!!

I am not really a drummer but I have some drum sticks and just tried to hold them in my left hand like trad style for the first time. Too hard! Will I ever be able to hold it like that? How long does it take to get used to? how do you start? I think I need a video on just that. How to hold the stick in your left hand. Funny, in those Jim Chapin videos he switches grip effortlessly!

The Buddy Rich drop bounce technique is nearly impossible with a conventional matched grip. This is because the fingers can lift the stick up in traditional, but not in matched unfortunately. That is ,of course, unless someone has designed a successful method that I have yet to come across.

I understand perfectly what I’m supposed to be doing, I think physics just may be different where I am because you pull that thing right back up consistently like absolute magic. And sure, I’d accept that I’m a pleb who just can’t do this yet, but… like I couldn’t even practice, neither of my hands yielded even nearly any result.

Bonjou and bravo for your great technique on the other hand I do not see how you make for the speed has the left hand by remaining precise and regular, can you answer me by using a translator and thank you very much.

I learned this from watching videos of Buddy Rich. I think Jojo Mayer uses his wrist too much. In my opinion he is doing a molloer variation.
