I was lucky enough to have worked with two members of ‘We Five’, playing bass and singing with them, back in the 70’s. Wonderful people! We played that song every night. Jerry Burgan, founding member, wrote a very interesting book about the group. ‘Wounds to Bind….Jerry and his wife Debbie, were amazingly talented, as were all the musicians associated with We Five- Thanks so much for posting this!
@@the_guitar_trooper You’re most welcome. When we performed ‘You Were on My Mind’, we occasionally sang the original lyrics “I got drunk, I got sick’ Sylvia Tyson, disliked their version very much, though I doubt she had any issues in cashing the checks from the royalties…
Thank you, your video just made a connection for me that I never realized. John Stewart was in the Kingston Trio. They were the first to record "Let's Get Together" (better known as just "Get Together"), but their version was on a live album. We Five were the first to record it in the studio. They were also the first rock band signed out of San Francisco, beating out The Beau Brummels just slightly.
They had another good song, not sure if it was a hit. "You Let A Love Burn Out". Also, We Five played "You Were On My Mind" live on a variety show hosted by Fred Astaire, and it features that drummer. Beautiful performance. I suggest searching them out on RU-vid. Good show!
They never rekindled the spark they had in that song. And it is, in my opinion, fully deserving of hit status, particularly when you hear it next to the original recording. Thanks as always!
Not forgetting Crispian St.peters who had the UK hit version of this song. And he had a follow up. too. 'Pied Piper' ...and Ian and sylvia were great, too.
Yeah, that version of the song was just as popular in the UK as the We five version was in the US. Thank you ever so much for the view and the support!
So glad I subscribed to this channel. I could listen to this stuff all day. You mention that We Five did Coke ads. Didn't The Fortunes, also, do Coke ads in the late 60's?
Unfortunately, their adorable lead singer, Bev Bivens left after the second album and was replaced by a less distinctive sounding female singer. Kind of The Jefferson Airplane in reverse.
And now you know why! LOL. When they lost their lead singer, the first iteration of the group was pretty much finished. They reconstituted, and a vestige version of the group is still around. officialwefive.com/
