Good review Andy! Thanks for your content, you do a great job! Re the Ghost, I’m just a slow plodder getting back into running, and rather than my previous Asics I have been running mostly in the Ghost 14 this year. Like you I enjoy the feel of the ground in the forefoot. I find with the Ghost that I’m able to not notice my shoes and just enjoy the run, which is what I want from running shoes. I’ll be keen to check out the Ghost 16s down the track (when on sale). 😊
I normally wear US10 in Brooks and I am gifted a pair of Ghost 16 in US11 and I was going to replace them with US10 but when I put my feet in I quickly realized that size 10 would put my toes against the front of the shoe. Probably size 10.5 would fit me well but Size 11 was OK. I think the available length is reduced by thick heel counter and plush heel padding. Upper is also ticker than my most other shoes. The toebox narrows rapidly. Luckily Brooks makes wide versions of this shoe so those that have wider feet will need them. It was nice to receive a gift but looking at my shoe rotation, I decided to re-gift these to a family member who is wearing US10.5. Personally, I think it is still a bit heavy. They can reduce the upper plushness a bit and dare I say a bit less rubber. That much rubber is muting the responsiveness of this foam and making it heavier than necessary. This is the version that should have been Ghost 15. It is a year late. Hopefully Ghost Max 2 will have DNA Loft v3 as well.
Interesting. I work in a run specialty store, and the overall feedback thus far has been the 16 is roomier in the toe box, though I can see where the length isn’t quite equal. Even for myself, my wide almost width foot fits quite well in a regular width of it, but I never liked the 15.
Interesting - have been a Ghost for at least the last 10-12 pairs. Bought a pair of 16 (1/2 size bigger than usual foot size as usually do) and after two runs got blisters on the side of my big toes. With anti blister socks that have never given me any.. am hoping its just breaking them in but defo feeling tigher at the toe end of the foot so far :/
Hey Andy, what shoe would you recommend for a newer 200lb runner wanting to do 10 - 20km runs? Looking for something without a large stack height. Thanks!
