As a new V7 850 owner I appreciate your service to the Moto Guzzi community. Anybody with half a brain knows that knowledge is power. Fanboys who are angered by honest, helpful unbiased feedback don't have a clue.

The check engine light coming on on any bike whether brand new or not should never be ignored as it could end up being a terminal situation and probably would have cancelled out your warranty had you not complained about it. As for the time it took to be fixed, that is deplorable. You did the right thing to complain to the dealer about it. Glad it was eventually sorted out for you.

Appreciate you telling us the honest truth. Not enough people are ready to do that. If I had bought a new bike and had that happen I would have been fuming. You don't hand over all that money just to find you have a defective product.

I think you are quite correct in all you say. I would be so pissed off if my brand new bike threw up a fault right from the start. It would be so disappointing and take the joy out of the whole event. I love this bike and glad you got it sorted, eventually.

What's annoying is when dealerships treat a complaint as if you are the only person in the world who has come across the problem, when the internet is full of people saying the same thing. The correct response should be we know of the issue, keep riding the bike and if there is a engine problem, we've got your back. They won't, in the off chance there is a real engine management flaw.

I had the same check engine light come on my Euro5 2021V85TT Centenario when I went to overtake and go into the higher rev range, but luckily when it went in for its annual service the software upgrade was available and sorted the issue and improved the lean fuelling as well, anyway can’t believe the negative comments you received for saying the way it was! Looking forward to see what you get next. Guessing V100S in green? So from your comments the BMW will be going soon too lol 👍

The service ‘spanner’ light came on my then-new 850 Stone about 100 miles into my holiday to Cornwall , not long after picking the bike up. I stopped, rang the dealer by the side of the road, they told me not to worry about it and they’ll turn it off at the next service. So you’re not alone. Turns out my bike was fine, just the light telling me there’s a fault…was at fault. Your next bike? Lighter than the BMW 1250, built for touring…if I was being facetious I’d suggest a V85TT or Mandello. Or maybe I’m just one of those fanboys?! Whatever it is, good luck with it and keep posting 🏍️

No doubts, a brand new product should work from day 1. Only bananas are allowed to mature after arrival at the customer's place. I picked up a brand new V7 Corsa 4 weeks ago. I experienced strong vibrations not correlated to the engine speed. The dealer found some problem with the front tyre and replaced it. That didn't solve it. I suspected the joints in the drive shaft, since the vibrations were the strongest at zero power, or running down a hill with pulled clutch. I'll go pick it up tomorrow after the first service, and the mechanic said it was the rear wheel rim that caused the problem. I guess there was some issue with the transport, even though I live only 250km from the factory. In addition, the high beam was flickering on the highway in heavy rain. I sincerely hope that was all, and it will now work flawlessly.

After the first service and exchange of the rear wheel, it now runs like a dream. So happy it could be solved without fuzz! My dream bike didn't turn out to be a nightmare! 😏

Nope, you are entitled to expect a brand new bike to not have these niggles and the manufacturer should take ownership of the problem and fix it, and with a simple software firmware update it should be dealt with promptly, given that it should not go out like that, best of luck with whatever you get next 👍🏻

It boggles the mind that the manufacturer doesnt know what a error code means. Someone wrote the ecu program and created the code for a purpose, supposabley. I have heard the new HD sportster S creates many codes. A tech mentioned that they think software is to sensitive. A voltage fluctuation can throw a code.

Agree with everything you say except one thing, I fitted the dart marlin screen to mine and it's fundamentally changed how i feel about the bike at A road speeds. Without a screen 💯 agreed the bike wants to be ridden at 50 and is really tiring above. Its really surprised me as the bike is still lovely on back roads but has much more touring potential, and is perfectly happy pressing on.

I have the same V7 as you, that blue colour is stunning, the Special with its lovely proper clocks I find reminds me of the bikes I rode when I learnt to ride in the early 80’s. It’s a proper bike and it’s lovely to ride around the roads of the Lake District where I’m fortunate to live, where roads and sheep prevent fast riding! I’m keeping mine forever! I have 2 other bikes to tick the other boxes! Nothing beats the looks of the classic Guzzi in stunning blue, it’s stolen my heart!

I bought a used 2018 V7iii Milano with only 700 miles on it. According to the dealer, it was bought new by one of their service techs. Soon after I bought it, the check engine light came on. Took it back and they diagnosed it as a faulty oxygen sensor in the left exhaust pike. They replace this (at my cost since the bike was out of warranty), and the light went out. The bike has also had problems of intermittent stalling for no reason at a stop, and intermittent start button not working. Both very frustrating and dangerous conditions since, on several occasions, the bike stalled at a busy red light and I could not re-start it! Haven't decided yet if I'm going to keep it or not, but it will be hard to sell with these unresolved issues, so I feel stuck with it at this point.

I seriously thought about a V7 (no chrome) as a first big bike in the last couple of months. I passed my Mod tests on a 750gs so ended up that route as would still be looking half way thru 2024 before I settled. BUT... my heart was really wanting a 2024 V85TT. So maybe in a couple of years when I retire, that may be the bike for me. I love my BMW but I feel the MG would have been a little less aggressive attitude without quickshifter and in a different class. I really hope the buyer views your stuff online and really appreciates your positivity. If it were me i think I'd find peace in this. Who wouldn't be peed off buying something and then having an issue with it. It's only natural. Those negative folks saying other things obviously have been blessed to have no issues with anything in their lives to date. It takes an edge off a perfect experience and that's what you don't want. Looking forward to your new ride!

I tried the V7 last year and I felt in love with it. This bike is alive, easy, charismatic. Just great and different. I’m just a bit worried about reliability, and the fact that there is no more dealer close to Brussels (closest is 100km away). I fully agree that you should make the distinction between the bike (or car) and its brand. I own a Tesla and I don't agree at all with Musk’s opinions. But the car is fantastic, I enjoy driving it every day. So, yes, the V7 will certainly replace my old 19 yo BMW. If I find a dealer...

Owned 2 V7's.My first one was a mark || stone,pretty good just 10hp short and if you would start riding withing the first minute after start up it would die 😮 owned the same special as you do in this video and power was on point 👌 but drove it in the rain and frost a couple of times and it already started rusting everywhere. I bought it because of the shaft drive and big tank (of course the looks) ideal comuter bike... Absolutely not,it's a fair weather bike to go on light trips. And before people start saying I didn't take care,I wiped it down and even cleaned it if I had to after every ride. Far a 9000 euro bike the quality is just not enough...

I am fortunate to have had many motorcycles, a few of which have been Guzzi's. Got to admit I was mortified when Piaggio took them over, as the way they had obliterated the history of the Gilera marque when they took it over made me fear for Guzzi's future. What you said in your summing up about company policies has made me perhaps consider a V7 at some point. :)

I bought a BMW R1250RT a few years ago. Check engine light came on early in my ownership experience. After 10 weeks at the shop all they could say was "electrical anomaly". I couldn't risk that on a planned 8000 mile ride in the middle of the western U.S.. Traded it for a Goldwing. I am giving BMW another chance with a R1250R. I also have a Mandello V100. So far, I am really enjoying it. The transmission is clunky, but I can live with it. I discovered a secret about the handlebar vibrations. The black Guzzi crash bars work well as vibration dampeners.

If it's any consolation Mr CG, I would feel just as aggrieved as you did had I bought a brand new bike which then displayed a check engine warning light. It was a fault, end of. With regard to your comment about sportsbikes and not being able to use the power/traffic volume problems etc, I think it depends where in the UK you live. Luckily the area where I live has superb twisty rural roads, hardly any traffic, and very little Police presence, but I'm not gonna say where that is! Sorry to hear the Guzzi is going, as it is what first attracted me to your channel. A beautiful looking bike, I hope I get to own an identical one some day! Those were far more beautiful and a better quality machine imo.. I owned a BMW R75/5 and my buddy owned a black 73 Eldorado. The year was 1985 and we were both 19.. I wouldn't touch a European motorcycle made after 2000. IMO all the Euro brands are living on past glory. Same for their cars. They are generally overly complex and unreliable. MT07 / 09 are miles ahead of any naked Euro bikes.

I took delivery of a brand new 2023 V7 Special (1 mile) in April. I had the first service done at 900 miles before the service light came on. I have a 1992 Kawasaki GTR for touring and a 1990 Suzuki GS 500 for shits and giggles. Been thinking about upgrading the Suzuki to the V7 special that you're riding but only in the blue. fantastic looking bike. The only reason I'm considering the change is for the shaft drive. In fact this is one advantage of modern classic bikes over the sportier ones: they handle similarly when you have a pillion and you can as well enjoy the ride the same. Having a pillion on an ultimately sport bike just ruins the way it handles.

New bikes not giving access to the error codes is a real problem, I have a friend with a v85tt that has a similar issue, this is an adventure style bike for going on long journeys and suddenly you have no idea why the engine light is on, therefore another trip back to the dealer to check what code it's displaying, only to be told it's a throttle response issue or a oil pressure issue or a cruise control fault, all of which are no longer present. Therefore all confidence in the bike is lost and the round the world tour is on hold for ever as these issues are not likely to ever get fixed as they are so intermittent. For me new bikes have become overly complicated, in the old days the only light you would ever see is the oil light, no other warnings at all. The only way around this is to buy an obd2 reader and even that can't reset the engine light, it will just tell you what error you have, unless you pay out over £300 for a specific piaggio one. Manufactures need to at the very least offer a diagnostic on the bike to display the error severity, so at least you know if the bike is ok to continue riding. I love Moto Guzzi but they are really not convincing me to buy a new one anytime soon, along with this issue is the constant changing of dealerships that can service them. My guess would be you are buying the V100.
@Fishsticks187
@Fishsticks187 29 дней назад
@Paulcooper5610 You can tell the severity of an engine light by common sense and reasoning. If you're not hearing any abnormal noises and the bike is otherwise running fine, fluids are at proper levels, etc. it's very likely not serious. If the engine sounds like a roll of quarters in a washing machine, or it If can't stay running, it's time to phone a friend or a tow truck. Long distance touring is a game of no guarantees. If you're not prepared to be broken down on the side of the road for any number of reasons, you have no business setting out in the first place. I agree that dealers should make it easier for riders to read codes, but how will that help you when you're in the middle of nowhere?

Maybe the check engine light is a false indication and only a wiring problem

It was an issue with the map. Moto Guzzi revised it and my bike got updated. Fine since.

@@CGRidesMotorcycles Modern sensors & software that sample everything thousands of times a second will probably generate codes that aren't an issue to the engine or won't be noticeable on a dyno and definitely impossible for the rider to notice. But as you say, an engine fault light will impact the value at resale, especially a sale to a private buyer. Personally, it wouldn't bother me ... if the oil pressure is good (and why wouldn't it be?), the spark plugs are showing a good colour and the engine pulls well through the rev range (under acceleration or just cruising), then I wouldn't hesitate to buy the bike. Why? Because it's one of the BEST LOOKING Guzzis ever made (colour scheme, chrome accents) and it should just keep on keeping on. If the human body was a machine, it would be showing fault codes all the time :)

I had the same bike which I bought from new and sold it three months later. Too many faults and quality issues. A great bike to ride, but terrible to own.

The Fireblade wasn't the problem. Uk over regulation and over population is the problem.

If you want a flawless bike from day one to no forseeable end buy a Honda. You knew that before you bought the Italien machine, didnt you? So why did you do what you did? To be special, somehow?

I bought a brand new Honda CB1300SA in 2009. It broke down in Wales after 300 miles. It took Honda 6 weeks to fix it - basically all the good weather that year. They had to replace all the throttle bodies. To compensate me they gave me a £200 service voucher. When I tried to use it the following year they refused to honour it. But yeah, thanks for the enriching comment 🙄
