Bo and Sarah return home and breathe a sigh of relief that Austin is finally dead and out of their lives. Bo wonders if they should find a new place to live given all the bad memories of Austin at their current house. Sarah says she wants to give him the ring back so he can propose properly. With the lights dimmed and their song (As Time Goes By) playing on on the cassette player, Bo proposes and Sarah says yes. Megan, believing she is Ruby, is confused about how she ended up in a hospital in Llanview, a town she’s never heard of and is appalled to discover she is now a blonde. “Ruby” believes she is in love with Marco, and she kisses him passionately. Max calls the hospital looking for Megan, but Ruby has no idea who Max is. Marco, pretending to be a doctor says Megan is OK and has been taken for some tests; he promises to give her a message. Viki asks Virgil to help her help Megan. He explains Megan went into shock when Viki was shot but should be fine once she sees Viki is alright. Viki fears the situation is much worse than that. While Viki’s consciousness is off with Virgil, Clint visits her room and wonders when she’ll come back to him. When Virgil tries to transport Viki to see Megan, her focus is split between Megan and Clint and so they accidentally travel to a possible future where Clint is remarried and has pushed Asa out of Buchanan Enterprises.
At a rest stop on the way to Boston, Max is still worried about Megan, but Gabrielle convinces him she will be fine and that they need to focus on Al. Ruby tells Marco they need to sneak out of the hospital and get on the first bus to Atlantic City. Marco tries to resist her charms, suggesting she should see the doctors before she is discharged. Viki asks Virgil how to avert the terrible future she’s just seen. He says they need to focus on helping her daughter for now and worry about the future later. Once again Viki has trouble focusing on the problem at hand when she wonders if Roger was the reason her marriage with Clint fell apart in the alternate reality she’s just seen. She ends up in Los Angeles in the future where Sarah is trying to convince Roger to move back to Llanview to help Megan. Roger says there’s nothing anyone can do to help Megan.
Marco stalls “Ruby” by promising to run out and get her some makeup and clothes. In the meantime, he tells her to continue to pretend she is in a catatonic state. Marco returns with an outfit he swiped from Fraternity Row and he and Ruby sneak out of the hospital together. Virgil and Viki are transported to Mountain View Psychiatric Hospital. Viki is convinced they’re in the wrong spot again, but Virgil insists they’ve finally come to the right place. Viki hears maniacal laughter coming from a hospital room and fears it is Niki Smith, but Virgil says the person she’s looking for is behind that door. She begs him to say it isn’t true, but she reaches for the door, afraid of what she’ll find on the other side.
