Very very clever. I removed my bed to paint behind the cab .. and later to do a body lift. (One side at a time) But, I did have to get a neighbor to lift one side .. and I lifted the other. Your method is much easier than trying to get a helper!
Thank you for this. I've got to change a fuel pump on my truck to get it running again and literally just needed a way to get the bed up by myself. I think i've got an idea to take your idea and adapt the supports into some sleeps so i can jack the bed up and just slide it back a few feet to chill there while I work on the fuel pump.
Great job. An Idea for you the next time you do this add a 2x4 across the bottom of the 2x4s going under the bed so you don't have to undo and jack up 1 2x4 at a time on one side of the truck, you would do both at the same time with the jack in the middle on the cross member 2x4. Less time and easier.
Thank-you so much for posting this. I had to remove the bed on my truck and your video made this procedure such and easy task. Thankyou.....thankyou......thankyou.
your lucky your bed bolts came out so easy. I'm down to two bolts on my 00 s10 because all the other bolts broke off on me now I'm looking at removing the bed to repair it so I can haul heavy stuff again.
What a great video. thinking how I was going to remove my 94F250 truck bed. That nifty jack looks like the ones they use to use on cars years ago. What did you call it? Ang where are they sold?
That worked but why not put a 2x4 between those two cross pieces supporting the bed. Then just jack from the midpoint of that 2x4 between the bed support 2x4s and the whole thing goes up. If you had 2 of those farm jacks you'd have a lift. I just dropped my tank today in my 99 Silverado. I had to drop it. The shop I took it to said they thought the tank had a lot of trash and that killed the pump. They wanted $700 to do the job. I did it for $200 and used an AC Delco module. Airtex has had a lot of bad pumps lately. BTW there was no trash in the tank.
jesse banke that would work too but you must have had the truck jacked up pretty high... the job was pretty easy I thought... I used a floor jack and some plywood. Dropping the tank in my Grand Cherokee seemed harder than the Silverado. The biggest shock for me was finding there is an inner hose inside the the larger hose.
you stayed with it and got it done... Im going to try using 2" wide nylon straps and a John Deere front end loader...I saw an ad for a Eastwood bed lift that clamps under the side rails, that would be great for $200.. maybe obummer would send a couple guys by if I said some bad things about him, and they could help... thetruthdamit haha
cool. I was thinking of something like that for my one man removal bed. I have a camper or cover or whatever them things are called, so it will be like an extra 200lbs or something.
Looks like a lot of faith put into a few screws and 2X4's from HomeDepot. It!s impressive the thing did not just fall over with the wind since its balanced on norhing.
I'm half his size and I just lifted mine by hand, propped each side back and forth on 2 blue barrels and a 2x12 laying flat then drove the truck out. not a scratch.
nice idea but you can do it allot faster by building a rack to go inside the bed and using an a frame and a chain hoist which will be much safer toobut your way will work if you dont have access to any of those things
jesse banke I've helped a friend remove a bed, to do a new gas tank, just him and I lifted from under the wheel wells., I have a question for you, do you know if the mounting points differ after the 88-98s?
Wow, can a corn when it's a rust free truck, had to use a flame wrench on mine, little nervous using fire near gas tank, put back on with ss bolts, be a snap next time.
pretty clever wy of doing it.....my "friend" never showed up to help me take mine off so i unbolted it and hooked a chain to the top of the headack rack and drove off
Was looking for a good guide to assist with removing the bed from 1994 C1500. I will NOT be using this one. Got to be one of the most stupidest stunts I've ever seen on here. Those wood screws can easily torque out of the wood with one wrong move (why it didn't all collapse at 20:03 was damn luck). And those silly stilts resting on soft ground? Brilliant! I will NOT have a seven-year-old standing nearby as I try to drive under this disaster waiting to happen. And I will NOT be wearing shower sandals to jack up anything, never mind a truck bed. Thanks for a video??? displaying all the things you should NOT do for this project. Laurenceville Garage is the best (and safest) video on this subject I've seen so far.
I told three of my buddies that my wife’s hot friend was coming over. Had it all ready to lift when they got there. Had them help take it off changed my pump and since they were still there admiring wife’s hot friend I had them help set it back on. Didn’t even have to give them a beer.
Was it this titled one-man job I didn't watch much of the video but I can hear two people talking I set up an overhead hoist in my shop you could have done the same thing you guys are doing their only built you an overhead version with a $70 hoist
Lol u lucky bed chud fell off when u back up! I suggest more easier and safe way homemade 4x4 woods as "v" both side 6x6 wood or metal beam on top and get pulley then 4 chains hook on bed then pick it up easy . But u doing good job
Thanks for the pro-tip, yeah its a cheap piece of shit camera. My daughter won't let me use the nice one I bought for her. I will definetely look for a good affordable audio recorder that is better than the one that comes equipped on my old beat up cam. then I can just overlay the audio.
