Les Maechtle, I marveled at its layout. what impresses is exactly the movement of several parts, such as McDonald's, the store thumbnails with their moving trains. If I write what I think and turo'm feeling, surely we would be hours and hours. Congrats. I have a model railway in m ine house, know the work it takes to build it, and surely your whim, I have no words. Our God. Thanks for these images. Alvaro Sabino, São Paulo - Brasil.
Absolutely fantastic, I want to thank you so much for sharing it with us on this excellent video. I am a 70 year old Brit living in London and have to tell you some of the accessory's to the layout I have never seen before. I love the Model Shop with the running trains in the windows. This must be a life times work and you have to be very proud of your achievement I keep looking at the tape and realize it must be a lot of work just to keep it all clean . Thank you and regards Mike in London.
My mouth was watering! Fantastic layout! I am a fellow model railroader and railfan living in Kingston Ontario Canada. You have done some beautiful work on this layout! I am totally in awe! Thanks so much for sharing your miniture world with us!
right after high school I was working at a radio shack and every few days this older man would come in and buy little parts. I never knew what he was doing with them then one day he came in to buy a new desktop computer and had asked if I would consider coming by his home to set it up because he and his wife didnt know how to do all that. So I did. Didnt take long and he then took me into this huge room to show me his train setup and wow.. It was amazing. This video reminds me of the smaller setup he had. It was his favorite hobby.
Absolutely wonderful. Thank you for sharing your collection with me. I have inherited my fathers and grandfathers Lionel collection and hope to get help building a layout soon. Again, thank you so much for showing me what's possible. God's blessing.
One man's model trans. What an out standing collection of trains. An it's real Nice to watch the different trains. An all the different parts of the collection. Truly Amazing.
that must be one of the best layouts i have ever seen. and he has so much extra stuff on the shelves so he can run a different train every chance he gets and he has different things on the layout as well which is great to see.
Dude, if this guy hasn't started opening this up to the public for money, he should; really awesome! If we lived near this, my 3 y/o son would never want to leave.
Wall-to-wall trains everywhere! This place is where model train lovers go when they kick the bucket! LOL! I know I could spend days on end in that room and never get bored!
This is sooo cool to see, very nice. You can call it a toy or model train, but toy to me is something a child can play with, a model train is something someone older can play with, because they can respect what it really is. A hobby. To me, it is a wonderful layout. Love the can collection too.
Absolutely rhe most fantastic personal layout I've ever seen. Great effort and my fave is the amusement part. I'm modeling Hoboken, NJ and the Palisades Amusement Park. Thanks.
G'day from Australia, I don't do Lionel....not huge in Australia like it is in USA but to any fellow modeller / collector I send my congratulations on such a phenomenal layout and running collection..I love my HO stuff and building a BNSF layout with sound at present. A shame Lionel never took off big here, Marklin and Hornby , now Bachmann , Athearn, Intermountain , Kato , Atlas doing mainly HO and N are the go... Lionel Toy Trains are just great though...Thanks so much for vid...Cheers Rod.
Amazing collection, I'm jealous! Love the layout and the collection structures, not to mention your locos and running stock. Great to other people are as crazy as I am, although I am an HO guy, can't afford the Lionel stuff, I like the older Lionel locos and rolling stock.
Thanks much for your kind comments. This layout has been a labor of love for a long time, and has brought joy to many. I am just a friend who dropped by with a camera; obviously a video was in order. I too love the model shop with mini toy trains. What fun!
Hmm.. Love the setup.. I can imagine his biggest problem would be.. What to run next.. I have the same prob with the amount of music that I have.. What do I feel like playing now..lol.. But Grats to Les's efforts.. Fantastic job.
Thanks for posting, I enjoyed watching his collection. Too bad you didn't have a camera that could have rode the train lol. Thanks to your friend for allowing you to film it
Dude, one of my life time dreams is to create a 7 1/4" scale steam-era railroad, all live-steam and all manned and ridable. Everything to scale and detailed to the last rivet.
I really enjoyed viewing this clip, in fact I'd really like to see more N scale versions of those operating accessories for my own model railroad project.
To continue: I elected to appreciate all da & I did together; for which, built that strong bond between us rather than mourn his loss. Upon mom's untimely death 8/23/13 & the sale of our house; my 29yr old son & I disassembled the layout & while doing so, my son engendered an appreciation for model RR. We stored the layout, bought 4 acres in Frisco & R completing a model RR wkshop to see if it will develop N2 the necessary bond & passion for success.
Whatever the nomenclature should be, Mr. Maechtle has a toy train mentality when it comes to this hobby. I refer to these as "toy trains" because he's collecting them & maintaining them as "train sets". I'm a model railroader & I collect trains that are more accurate in their representation in an attempt to create a realistic model of a working RR. He's not trying to super detail his collections, just preserve it & keep it in running condition.
I wish I was that man with all those model trains. I've wanted to get a model railway set for YEARS, but they're TOO EXPENSIVE! (For example, one set, I think Eurostar, was $300!)
When I was a kid I got my first model train I think it was some type of steam locomotive not sure which type. But it got me interested in train. Some years passed by and I want to start collecting model trains again any tips for a beginner?
Dear Mohit Joshi There will be other problems to solve too. Such as the electrical power problem. Different countries have different electrical power systems. So a model train power controller from, say, the United States, will be designed for mains supplying 120 volts at 60 cycles AC. Where you are, mains probably supply 230V, 50Hz. Plenty of challenges, of all different sorts. You can start small, and build up from there, solving problems as you go.
Great video! I had never seen--or even heard of--the model train store accessory. Who'd a thunk it? Do you know whether anyone has posted a video of O-gauge trains dropping of and picking up cars from sidings?
O gauge makes everything look so much bigger, many people have larger layouts in oo gauge in their lofts and spare bedrooms over here, look at ic82, or everard junction, many people have stuff like that
