Not exactly, in Ireland you can't give two candidates a rank four, like in his example, you can vote from 1 down to the 10 or whatever the amount is, so a number can only be used once. It's more simialar to the ranked choice in the Democratic primaries, where voters could rank there first three in order of preference, but in Ireland you can keep going.

@@zilfondel The difference is how many places there are, so in Irelands Single Transferable Vote, there are at least three seats for the parliment in that district. STAR and Ranked Choice are for a single winner. Although STAR does have according to wikipeadia three variations for multi-winner elections. One of which is just STV but to a maximum of five positions.
@@zilfondel It matters because with how he explains it the final two candidates that are picked could have the same score on your ballot with the STAR system. Since they can't determine what your vote would be then your vote would be lost. By making you choose a unique number the Irish system would avoid this conflict.
The star voting system looks really interesting. Feels like a much better way to communicate when voting e.g. a protest vote would be clear because you've given one candidate 0 stars
The FUV is cool but the voting system is actually amazing (Have read about it before & it should be implemented atleast imo as it's actually better than our current system)
Kind of sad to see how this is seen as such an improvement for people in the "greatest democracy in the world" while this has been a well established system in european countries for decades. Things really have to change in the US, and soon.
Mark Frohnmayer Hi Mark, yes certainly not your STAR system per se, but something similar where you get a limited number of votes you can allocate in any combination throughout the five boxes of each candidate. The result is calculated by number of votes, not by 1-5 star valuation.
The star voting. Australia uses a slightly simpler system which sees candidates numbered from 1 to n. It's less of a two party system compared to the US but there are still two major blocks. It's not perfect but there's still a bit of consensus.
Our provincial government here in B.C. gave us a referendum on just this topic last year. A very small majority voted to keep first past the post, which is pretty much the 2 party thing. It was close. I don't think a lot of people understood proportional representation.
I am long FUV also, did not sell on the runup. This vehicle will have many personal and commercial applications moving forwards. Not a nio or xpeng, different space. The Deliverator will garner huge fleet contracts. I see this replacing all those Amazon vans I see delivering product everywhere! imo
I want it to succeed but I see a hybrid between a city-car (Smart) and a motorbike that has none of the advantages of one over the other (cargo capacity, bypass traffic, protection in winter). This thing is a wide bike with a windscreen.
I have watched three companies like this and they all have the same problem. To scale up production so make this widely available is about impossible. The cost of doing that especially on a product that has a small profit margin makes it even more difficult. I would buy this today if I could
When I was a kid, we went to DisneyWorld and they had an exhibit that showed a car GM could make in the future. 3 wheels, it leaned into corners, got 50-100 MPG, had a windshield wiper and a roof. Easy to park, fun to drive, great for the environment. Never happened. This gives my inner kid hope :)

@@milesinnz yeah, defo nothing new here, price should be 10x less too. Maybe mass production.would bring it down, here in the UK the practicality of this is questionable as it rains a wee bit lol. I do think a really small cheap electric car is needed, I just built an ebike though for £300 and love it apart from the rain and the fact that i cant leave it anywhere for fear of it being stolen, electric scooter is another option .. These electric vehicles should end up cheaper than ice and a vehicle like this will defo have a place once numbers add up. I had a Sinclair zx81 and a spectrum but could not afford the C5 lol, could probably make something out of bits a Bob's lol!

that STAR voting system just clicked with me. Here is what I agree to what he said. Racial justice should not be a political issue. Climate change should not be a political issue. (I will add) Wearing a mask (during pandemic) should not be a political issue. We are not polarized people. But polarized system is creating the polarization.

Regarding the voting system, is quite similar to what we use in corporate decision making and marketing focus groups. I am not sure about how well will it work in power struggle.

imo they should have exterior airbags for the sake of safety. Also they should have some autonomy like for braking or avoiding collisions. It's not that hard.

Ah, but the parties are an unfortunate consequence of plurality voting; it naturally breeds this "lesser of 2 evils" mindset. STAR would vastly diffuse the pressure for voters and candidates to politically collect into 2 major parties.
I thought the video was about an electric bicycle, it turns out it was a the biggest flaw of a two party system: POLARIZATION and how to avoid or mitigate its impact.
Unfortunately this has all the design finesse of a Army Surplus store window. Every inch of it is clamoring for attention, a stripe here a logo there a colored panel here a background here another logo there, another stripe, lights here, on storks there, another panel, did I mention the logos? Enough already. Take one and paint everything white, everything. This will show you the form of it, then streamline and simplify it, put ONE logo on it if you must (the Cybertruck didn't need one) make it small. Then don't impose your dorky artistic graphic look on it, let it make it's own statement in a single color-Just my opinion, as a designer, it looks like a dog's dinner.
The voting concept doesn't address dark money, laundering of money for candidates by special interests, citizens united -- efforts that allow certain candidates a malign advantage over another

I offered the company to drastically reduce that manufacturing cost. Also, to sell and make the financed payments, for all buyers. Was disappointed in lack of interest.
Too many voters are not smart enough to figure this kinda system out.....The arcimotoa needs more range or a gasoline engine. It also needs doors, heat and AC. The price starting at $19k is still a bit too high until they get those things fixed.
That Arcimoto looks fun and all, but does it come with any safety features at all? I mean there's no side panel or side nets similar to NASCAR at all! How about Seatbelt? Airbag? ABS? Also can that two seater be converted to a cargo carrying version?

With a price point of $20k it will be limited to a toy, if they can get the price down to around the $5k mark then people who really need a EV and be able to make best use of a EV like this will be able to afford to buy one.
Europe I can see, hell maybe some countries in Asia. but the US? this guy is crazy if he thinks people are going to go for this when they can go for a nicer looking and preforming electric car thats actually a car
We think the Arcimoto platform is well suited for the world. It’s a match for how we actually use vehicles for the vast majority of our regular trips pretty much everywhere.
@@nardopolo101 An excellent product that addresses a number of needs; everyday runabout, last mile connectivity, tourer etc. This would do well in SE Asia too provided the cost barrier is reasonable. Insofar as rain is concerned, just needs temporary shades or a roller system that could be an add on or aftermarket. Overall an excellent design , I am positive that you will reach your goal of a mainstream mobility provider . Best wishes
Are these street legal in calif. ? When all streets except near schools are in excess of 35 mph...which excludes slow speed electrics...above that you need air bags and stuff that cost a fortune.
Does the fact that you can't use downhill skies or snowmobiles in the summer stop people from buying them? (I am aware that there are certain surfaces and waxes that let you use downhill skies in summer but those are very limited cases.) I live in Canada and have winter worse than the northern States and I'm interested in one of those vehicles. I could use it from at least May to December. Possibly April and into January depending on the roads. It has doors as an option and I'd wear the appropriate clothing. Better than waiting for a bus.

If you want to buy something for your own use, to enhance your life as a form of recreation, or as a means for getting to and from work, that's your business. If you think these are appropriate for all people, year-round, then I suggest getting into the habit of driving your car in the coldest, darkest months - your winter, or ours, it doesn't matter - with the windows down and the heater turned off. Better still, roll-up the windows and keep the heater and all the defrosters turned-off. See how long it takes before you can't see anything through the windows. I'm pretty sure this vehicle doesn't come with heaters, or defrosters. If it does have them, they are optional, just like the doors and windows. But, it is your decision to buy, or not to buy. I am eager to buy an all-weather electric vehicle that doesn't "cost an arm and a leg". But, I am pretty sure that this is not the one, unfortunately. BTW, just because you are capable of getting a worse case of frostbite and quicker doesn't mean that our winters can't be brutal. It gets cold enough here and sometimes it gets very cold. Combine that kind of weather with the daily challenges of living in a major urban center and consider that those batteries aren't made for sitting around all day in a very cold parking garage, with no electric charger to top them off.
Looks allot like a Canam Spider with seats & electric motor. Won't it be considered a motorcycle because it has 3 wheels? That would make it harder to sell since you need a motorcycle license to drive it.
No different than a motorcycle or T-Rex. Just depends on the individual like anything else. Some people ride motorcycles through the winter here in Oklahoma below freezing. And apparently you’ve never been to Thailand. This is basically just an electric powered tuk-tuk.
@@blackworldtraveler3711 in a vacuum ur right on the money, but the nearest elec station to me is 4 states away and over 1000 miles. Id need 10 fully charged batteries to barely make it there. Also top speed on these things is 75mi/hour. So i wouldnt say -just like a cycle-. I appreciate ur enthusiasm tho. I really hope arcimoto succeeds.
Adam Krasneski No idea what you’re talking about. I’m talking city and urban use plugging into regular wall socket which it’s designed for.. Seen these type of vehicles in several countries and my area including this vehicle and know what they are used for. High speeds and power stations aren’t t necessary. You need to be on Tesla forum if you want to speed, more expense/ insurance, power stations,or drive across states, or whatnot.
