Oh boy, you better go with that REV2! I played the Prologue at NAMM and I did not like the way it handled resonance. Did you hear I’m in some demos?

Come to think of it I think I did and I think you told me already stick with the Rev2. Another musician told me Prologue due to the VCO's instead of DCO's but from listening to the demos of the two I still preferred the Rev2 personally. Digital or Voltage wasn't an issue to me. Rev 2 it is!!

Noir Et Blanc Vie was wondering if you could fill me in about the lfo’s on the rev 2. I was trying to find this out. Apparently the rev doesn’t have like a global lfo..? Do you know if this is true? Meaning like you cannot control all oscillators with just one lfo. Maybe I’m rambling but it seems abit of a mis understood statement?

Hmmm, like a global LFO that would effect all oscillators, filter and say envelopes at the same time? I don’t think so.......you can’t take anything in the mod matrix and assign it to everything...What would you use the global LFO to effect?

Its tough I own both and they are both fantastic instruments in their own ways. Its like saying whats better a Trumpet or a Saxophone it all depends on what you want to use them for.

Looks like he just put the prophet on top of a minimoog and ran the midi out to the module

​@@gribo.9543 About three plus years into owning it: I still have it, but it's a piece I float in and out with. It's a very great synth, and I am back into a season of using it again. Simple patches are really easy to dial up, and dial in, and once you learn the sweet spots of the filter it becomes quite easy to make most traditional poly patches. The Rev 2 definitely has an issue in the low end, I don't think I have ever used it for any bass patch. It's definitely dialed for polyphonic play, so while the leads can be passable with the sub, there isn't enough weight in the low end. It does dial in nice dark pads very well. The bi-timbrality is also a nice touch, though I wish there was a copy layer feature. It also really sucks that high pass filtering (something I actually use a ton to shelve off bass in pads) takes up the effect slot, because some of the in built effects (the mistro phaser, chorus, and bbd in particular) are quite nice. I guess the way to put it is that the synth definitely fills a need in my toolkit, and has a very nice workflow, but I most often find myself pairing it with another layer (I use my hydrasynth a lot when I use the rev 2) or heavy processing. It offers a lot of power, and modulation ability for the price, and the voice count is silly. It is a synth I generally recommend to people.

Rev 2 has the nicest synth action keys I’ve played, even better than a Moog one I’ve demoed and on par with my Subsequent 37. If you can find it for a good price with the sequential label, I recommend the keys

Noir Et Blanc Vie, I wish I had one, by which I mean I don't own a single one. I don't have the money for it unfortunately. Of the ones I've tried, the best sounding ones were the OB6 and Dreadbox synths, probably the P6 and Tempest too, in terms of great sounding versatility, there's stuff like MFB Dominion, Novation Peak, and of course this one. Hoping I get to try out a Polysix, JP8, and that Deckard's Dream thing some day, anyones you like in there?

You are 100% correct and being too nice, this synth sounds BAD, at the oscillator level, very bland, and......almost sounds like VA, No, this is NOT a good synth. I think it's unfortunate that the reviewer compromised his credibility out of gratitude to DSI for sending him a review model, he knows just as well as ANYONE reading this that the original Prophet 8 was a HIGHLY contentious synth, I would say more people absolutely hated it than liked it, this is no secret in the synth world and has been discussed ad nauseum for over a decade, yet the reviewer refers to the original prophet 8 as a universally loved classic, THAT'S NOT TRUE...BLATANTLY NOT TRUE! And there's no way the reviewer wouldn't know that. The reason this is called the Prophet 8 REV 2 is because THE FIRST VERSION NEED A REVISION. Its sad to see people so mixed up by marketing and hype that they will deny what their ears are hearing, and there is NO WAY anyone familiar sith Synths would consider this Rev 2 to be a good sounding board let alone a "Transcendent experience" I'm afraid this reviewers videos will no longer be worthy of watching, he isn't telling the truth and he KNOWS IT.

Terrible.dee, I think you are being overly harsh, this synthesizer is capable of great sounds through its extensive set of possible modulations, while typically you can't rescue a bad sound with gimmicks, and the raw tone leaves some to be desired, with simpler waves like triangles and sines, the 08 is absolutely a very capable synth.

@@donallfinn The Prophet ‘08 was loved by many, hated by some -same as anything. It is also on countless recordings and was gigged with extensively. I worked in a music store during its run and let me assure you: we moved a TON of Prophet ‘08s and we didn’t see many returns on them. Some of the demand was, no doubt, driven by a lack of options in the new, affordable/stable (compared with vintage) poly-synth market at that time but people live Curtis filters and don’t typically look to Poly-synths for bass. Not going to touch the other weird stuff you wrote attacking the reviewer’s character -other than to say: chill out, be respectful and stop jumping to assumptions. Your opinions and experiences are not shared by the “synths community” writ large and are not “facts” -though you assert them as such.

Saar Dean it is mostly 1 function per knob, but there is some menu diving (i.e. mod wheel and gated sequence) but not much. The shortcuts make the synth really quick to program.

thats good to know. I hate menu diving cause it goes against my workflow. A very interesting synth. Also loving the Ob 6 Module but "only" 6 voices and more expensive

Yeah, just the 5 pin din midi input. Works like a charm, I use my Sub37 as a controller for like all my desktop products. (also the filter is broken on it so it's better as a controller than a synth at this point haha)
