Garth's "secret sauce" is the unbridled joy he takes in performing. If you didn't "fall in love" with the songs, the voice, the art, the music, the charisma, and the talent, that boundless glee will surely get you. It's overwhelming.
To be at one of his concerts is truly an experience. Friends In Low Places always blows the roof off the place. My favorite part is when Garth just sits on stage and does a song like The River and he stops singing and just listens to the audience as they sing the song to him. There's just nothing like it.
I've been to AC DC Metallica Kid Rock Korn Zeppelin reunion Eagles both and EVERY country artist that performed from 1975-2005 that anyone cares about I'm not a Garth homer BUT his concerts are freaking amazing top 2 or 3 in probably 1000 I've been too...along with Tool
He was my neighbor. Great man and so humble. Probably the best singer/songwriter out there and an even greater man. Sad he had to move to Nashville. Owasso still misses you buddy
My dear dear late friend Dannie Jo Jones played pedal steel guitar for the Bellamy Brothers, played on all the songs late 70's through mid 80's. 'Ain't Just Whistlin Dixie' 'Lovers Live Longer' 'If I Said You Had A Beautiful Body Would You Hold It Against Me" 'Redneck Girl". They are such a talent duo, with an amazing band. Very underated! Howard the older Brother was always so sweet to me out on the road. I loved their Mama too. Love to see you react to them. 😊
It was taken by Hank Williams Sr who sw it used in Hawaii for hawaiian music. He felt it could easliy be adapted to country and the lilting sounds fit the soul of country music too.
My Dad loved Garth and this song. His one request was to have this song played at his memorial service when he passed. We made sure that happened when we lost him last year. I know he was laughing
He gave a FREE concert in Central Park in Aug 1997. The NY Fire Department estimated attendance at 980,000 - the largest ever & no one has exceeded that # in the 25+ years since.
I finally got to see Garth live several years ago at Target Center, in Minneapolis. It was the greatest concert I've ever seen! His energy and the crowd are amazing.
There’s a reason Garth has been entertainer of the year so many times and newer singers got mad that he was back in the running a couple years ago and complained bc they knew he would win
I would've killed to be there! I saw Garth during his tour that came to WV, went to ND for our game against em and was blown away. Adding those two things together are just incomprehensible ❤
I was at both ND concerts, the first one in October was on my birthday and was freezing, but worth every second, the second one was hot, complete opposite weather, and worth every second. Best concerts ever.
I saw him for FREE when he came to NYC's Central Park. It was my nephew's 10th birthday. I picked up a cake, brought him and the other kiddos to Central Park and we saw Garth Brooks FOR FREE! It was an awesome concert. Will never forget it.
Garth was the consummate performer! That’s why he has sold soooooo many records!!! He has sold over 170 million records. He remains to this day the best selling solo artist, with 157 million album sales. Impressive.
I am 56 and I got to see Garth Brooks for the first time last year. Our kids got us tickets for Christmas! It was the best concert I have ever been to! He still has the same energy that he had when he first started out!!
Eh... Not quite the same amount of energy. He doesn't run around quite as much. Still an energy filled concert and I think we can all hope we have the same amount of energy when we get as old as him lol
This song is why I listen to country. I believe he did this song at the American Music Awards 1990, and my Brother said here, watch this. Listen to this guy. “I don’t like country”, and he says “well you may change your mind”.
She runs back down the hall way and through the bedroom door Reaches for the pistol kept in the dresser drawer Tells the lady in the mirror He won't do this again 'Cause tonight will be the last time she'll wonder where he's been.
@chieffan92588 Producer Pat Allan wouldn't let him add it to the recording so he showed it in the video clip. The video got a negative response from media but nothing but praise from the DV community of survivors and advocates so he added it to the live show
My boyfriend and I were in Nashville last month for our anniversary and we went to the Grand Ole Opry. Him and Trisha Yearwood came on and played as a surprise showing, and it made my year, I love him 😭❤️
I agree Sebs , Garth is the Michael Jordan and the Angelina Jordan of country Music. Michael loved what he did, Angelina loves what she does. Ya cant fake that expression on ones face of pure love and contentment of doing something that ya just love doing.
I saw him live at his Vegas show in 2011 to mark a milestone birthday. A very different vibe than this arena shows. We were in the 4th row and he sat by himself on a stool and held that crowd in the palm of his hands. It was like he was doing a concert in your living room. Fabulous!
The first time I pulled a local roadie gig we were waiting for Garth Brooks to finish. All the roadies were standing outside the venue when he walked out and directly up to me and thanked all the locals for their work. All I could do was nod my appreciation at being a fng.
I have been to three of his concerts and they were awesome. My neighbor at the time was a cousin to one of the band members her name was Marie and if you listen to his CD of Friends in Low Places you can here them yell push Marie because she was in labor while they were recording the CD. True Story
I went to high school with him, have met his mom, he played football! He was a really nice guy! Ive gotten to see at least 4 times and he always blows the crowd away!
Nobody that didn't grow up listening to him can ever truly understand exactly how beloved Garth is to country music. You asked how many people were at that concert and I do not have that figure for you but what I can tell you is that Garth Brooks has sold more concert tickets than any artist in the history of music. Nobody performs number one hits like George Strait can........ And nobody fills stadium seats like Garth Brooks can. It isn't even close by the way..... I don't know who the next top concert ticket seller is but I do know they are behind Garth by like 10 million tickets. He always had good special effects, a ton of energy, and tricks ip his sleeve. My favorite Garth story is that every chance that he could he would instruct the venue he was to perform at to not sell any tickets in the front row. People would show up to the show and think that he was a jerk that didn't want his fans near him....... But the reason he would leave it open is because right when the concert started he would instruct all the people from the back row to come and fill in the front row because hes freaking AWESOME.
This video is from the Garth Brooks Double Live DVD Set. For audio sync, the close ups on Garth in the blue shirt was filmed in the old Dallas Cowboys field known as Texas Stadium, that stadium is no longer standing. You have a keen eye to have noticed different crowds. They actually included footage of crowds in New York City, Dublin Ireland, and some other places. If you ever get a chance to get your hands on Double Live DVD set, you will not regret it. I have this set and still watch it sometimes.
Garth concerts are full of energy from beginning to end. Everyone is each others best friend & you’ll have a sore throat for two after singing (screaming) along. Great reaction!! You are a beautiful couple. 💞
The first time I heard this song was the first I'd heard Garth Brooks. I was on my way to work. I sang this song all day long after hearing it just that one time!
The place is packed and EVERY concert is like that. He's one of the 3 top performers of all time. Elvis, The Beatles and Garth Brooks. And Garth is catching up. And his entrances on stage are legendary. I went to a show at LSU in '98 and when he came out, he started singing off stage. Then a piano rose up in the middle of the stage and he's playing it. Or you think that's him. In the first verse the real GB rises up out of the piano. At LSU in April, the drums were in the middle and he starts singing his opening song. Then the drums start rising and he's under them like he's pushing them up to get on stage. AWESOME!!!
I saw in an interview once where Garth said that in the music video, if you listen closely, you can hear someone yell "push Marie!!!", in the final chorus. This is because in the 80-person choir singing backup, only 78 are singing. One is in labor, and one is assisting. 😊 Great song and great reaction ❤
The third verse of this song is only heard in his live performances... Just like in his song "Thunder Rolls", which has a third verse they banned on radio back in the day... But you can hear it live... Garth's live shows used to be dirt cheap... Like 65-75% cheaper then his competition... And, in many cases, gave as much as 10x the show to boot... Also... @ 10:51 ... His wife, country singer Trisha Yearwood is with him... She is a great singer too... Last I heard, she had her own cooking show too... Not sure if it is still on though...
Sebs, you nailed the Michael Jordan comparison! Garth is well known to sell out his concerts in mere minutes and is just as well known to add shows sometimes 2 a night just so all his fans have an opportunity to see him! Not to mention, he keeps his ticket prices extremely reasonable compared to most artists! He’s such a humble, down to earth guy! And his energy is insane! He’s even gone literally flying through the venue so he could get closer to the upper levels! He said he walks the venue before the shows and sits in the upper sections and tries to think of ways to make the show special for everyone!❤❤
I live in a city of just over 300,000 and it had been 20 years since his last visit. He and Trisha Yearwood (his wife and a powerhouse singer of her own see Walkaway Joe for proof) did 6 sold out concerts in 4 days, tons of charity meet and greets and so much more. And he is the most authentic person
I saw Garth on November 21st 1998 at Texas A&M Reed stadium. It was a great concert. This song was all fired up just like in this video. There was several parts of this video from the This is Garth Brooks video that came out in 1992, I had the VHS of it, like the smashing and jumping on the guitar.
Something about Garth, he is a master performer. I got lucky enough to get tickets when I like 16 to see him perform live in San Antonio. He really uses the whole stage, all that running around, that is legit what he does. Trying to take the sticks from the drummer, yeap. Third verse, always live.
I saw Garth Brooks at the grand ole opry years ago. Roy Acuff was still performing and Garth was introduced as “a new talent outta Yukon Oklahoma”…He was just a guy in Wranglers, a hat and western cut white shirt. No pyrotechnics, no acrobatics, just a cowboy singing and playing a guitar…I immediately bought his cassette offered after the show. It’s called a pedal steel guitar.
Garth Brooks is on of my all time favorite musicians. My first Garth concert was in December 1992. I was pregnant with my first child (Tyler) who was overdue so we bought general admission tickets at the gate. It was the BEST show ever!!!! My second concert was at Neyland Stadium in the January. My niece (not a country fan) went with me and we realized our seats were on the very last row and it was frigid. Despite the conditions, I'll never forget her turning to me and saying "I didn't know this was going to be so awesome!"
I saw Garth twice in concert. Both times in Pittsburgh PA. THE best concerts I’ve ever been to! That man is a true showman. He gives everyone he has to his audience!
Wow, that was one of the most forward thinking and REAL responses/reactions I have ever seen to this song. Love your work Sebs....You are great at what you do! Keep'em coming!
i remember coming back from basic training to hang out with my brother. He took me to a hip hop club. I was having a good time they had a dj i requested this song for some reason. He put it on and i was completely shooked that everyone knew the song and was singing along was a good time.
I've seen Garth 2x, about 15 yrs between them, and they were both the most entertaining concerts I've seen..and the 2nd time he was doing 4 concerts in 2 days, I attended the 2nd of the night..and he still blew the roof off Rupp!
If you EVER get the chance to go to a Garth Brooks concert... DO IT!! The energy and the experience is like no other. And you are right. Garth has always tried to keep his ticket prices lower than most so everyone is able to see him who wants to. Also he has always said that he wants those in the farthest seats to have as much fun as those in the front row. He tries to play to everyone. He is really genuinely a really nice and down to earth person. Very humble. The vegas show is probably a little bit different though, but you can never go wrong with garth
I saw Garth in 1999...the company I worked for at the time had a box and let us buy tickets for $10 each...took my sister and brother-in-law (hubby hates country)....amazing concert!
He’s just a great entertainer performer and human being. Back in 2016 I believe it was I was working for a company that sold concert tickets and we were doing Garth Brooks tickets and it is amazing that this man had every seat in the house that he was playing in for only $59 per ticket. It didn’t matter where your seat was. That was the price that you were going to pay he wanted to make sure that everybody could afford to come to his concert. Now I do you understand Vegas is probably expensive and he probably have to do that because it’s Vegas and I’m not sure what his ticket prices are now, but I just thought it was an amazing gesture on his half so everybody had a chance to come see his concert to make it all one price. It’s my dream to see him I’ll probably never be able to see him, but then he puts on a good show from what I’ve seen and his tickets sell out within minutes so he can sell out seven days in one location in five minutes. That’s crazy that’s love.
Without a doubt best concert I’ve ever been to still to this day! Took hours to get out of the parking lot but the local station played his songs the whole time so no one was in a hurry. Windows down singing our way home together!
This just made me so happy today! I'm sitting here smiling, singing along and remembering the many Garth concerts that I scraped together the money to see. They were 100% worth it and this dropped me right back into stadiums full of Garth fans losing their ever-lovin' minds! (Ok, I was one of those people. LOL) Still smiling ... :) Thanks!
Garth still has the same energy as he did the first time I saw him in 1996. When i saw him in 96, he sold out 4 shows in 11 minutes, and that's in the little area of WV I live in . He's the only artist that sells out multiple nights of shows in every city. Sometimes, he does 2 shows a day. He's always the motto that he will play as many shows that people are willing to buy tickets for.
I used to cook for his parents. I remember the night I first met them. It was the night after he won his first Entertainer of the Year award in 1991. They were at the awards when he won. They stroll in the door, order some burgers and went to sit down. I finish the order and everyone wanted to take the food to them. I asked what the big deal was and on cue they all look at me and say, that's Garth's parents. I said, okay...who is Garth? (I was a metal guy, sue me). They turned one of the televisions around and it was the news showing Garth winning the night before and those two people clearly sitting next to him. Very nice people. They came in maybe 4 or 5 more times before I graduated high school and moved away from good old Yukon, Oklahoma! He was our QB!
I was able to see him at Dallas cowboys stadium last year and oh my the best concert I’ve ever been to. And one of the best just overall entertainment event I’ve ever been too
Love love love his concerts. He is the best country singer in my opinion. His concerts are actually fairly cheep compared to most. He believes in keeping it affordable for the average worker. Also if his concert sells out so fast, which it always does he will add more concert nights in that town so all of his fans get a chance to see him. 😊
I know it doesn't compare at all but I was at Summerfest in Milwaukee just as A Great Big World was getting big. The entire crowd was singing along and the band had this look on their faces like "We made it". They were bewildered and the singer looked back and said: "They know our song!". That was fun - I can't imagine being part of something this big.
I saw him very early in his music career and again just a few years ago. He still has the energy of a 20 something year old. He's a great song writer, a good singer, and an excellent entertainer.
I have seen him in concert twice and he doesn’t disappoint. My husband who doesn’t like country music went with me and couldn’t believe what a great entertainer he is and how he involves the audience.
During his tour, He wanted everyone to be able to see him no matter their financial situation. To do this he announced what town he was playing in. Forced the ticket distributors to cap the cost of a ticket at 30 dollars and booked the venue for as many nights as he could sell out., if he sold out four shows he played four nights if it was only one then he just did one. Most towns he ended up playing three or more nights in a row. I saw him all three nights that he played in my home town. fantastic showman.
That instrument was a steel guitar one of the biggest staples in country music, if you see a band and someone has a steel guitar be ready for a good show
Having seen Garth twice in concert. He makes you feel like you are the only one in the room he sings to!! Love this song and Callin Baton Rouge. And, The Dance!! Oh so many!!!
I was fortunate to see Garth Brooks in 1991 at the Hodag Country Fest in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. My youngest daughter was 8 years old. We filed past performers all weekend up on the big stage. He had the stage hands lift kids up so they could really see him. My daughter still talks about touching his hand as he sang. Yup performer extraordinaire.
Your analogy of comparing Garth to Michael Jordan is spot on! 100% true! Michael Jordan is the best that ever lived and always went all out and that is what Garth is to country music
While there's no doubt Garth is the absolute greatest, Michael Jordan's publicity and smooze have over shadowed the Greatest basketball player of all time: Larry Bitd.
I saw him live 2x in the late 90's & I can say he still is the best concerts I've ever seen. I've been to roughly 60 concerts since his & none of them top his performance.
My sisters and I are headed out to Vegas in December to see him and I cannot wait! This will be my first Garth concert and Garth concert #2 for one sister and #4 (!) for my other sister. We don't have a lot in common due to the age gap (11 and 9 years older than me), but we 100% agree on Garth!
I watched Garth open for George Strait in Phoenix at Vtererans Memorial Coliseum decades ago. None of us knew who he was. After that tour with George, everyone knew who Garth was!!!
