One of the Best Ear Protection Products We've Used 

Just so all of you know, the Navy studies hearing loss and protection and came to the conclusion that no single set of hearing protection is enough to prevent permanent hearing damage from 9mm handguns on an outdoor range setting. that means if you do not double up, you will have permanent hearing damage. take the shooting inside and now you're compounding the damage. now consider most people don't understand how to even insert ear plugs and don't double up. the highest amount of single layer hearing protection is from high quality, lab made custom earplugs. the quick 'custom' plugs rarely achieve the effectiveness of ones that are properly made from molds. the next most effective are properly sized and inserted foam disposables. the issue with these is most have a different diameter and ear holes can vary enough to either render the earplug ineffective or painful. from there is a proper set of over the ear muffs. the issue here is most shooters will wear a hat and eye pro and cause the seal to be less effective. in addition, the foam inside and the seals themselves degrade over time. flange style earplugs like surefire and others are the least effective by far and unless you have a perfectly sized plug, will be one small step above shoving a paper towel in your ears. and by the way, a 9mm handgun is more damaging to hearing than a 5.56 rifle because of the frequency. for those who do not know, the sound of the shot is much louder if you are using or near any weapons with brakes or compensators. finally, there are no hearing safe suppressors when used with supersonic speeds. the crack of the supersonic bullet itself is enough to cause permanent hearing damage. one of the most important things to realize is exposure amount. the more you are around gunfire, the more damage you will receive. and before you ignorantly think you haven't had any or would call someone being cautious a wimp, realize that you cannot notice your hearing loss until it reaches a drastic point. there are no glasses for your ears. once your hearing goes, it's gone. certain frequencies will be forever ruined and nothing will sound as it is naturally. hearing aids cannot change that.

I'm willing to spend money on a good product, but 23 decibels noise reduction doesn't seem nearly enough to justify that much money. I prefer something closer to 30 dB NRR.

Really enjoyed the content, I bought my first pair of electronic hearing protection back in the early 90's. As my hearing was starting to degrade and like most solders at the time hearing protection was a bit hit and miss. They were at the range when I joined back in eighties but never used. I know have electronic muffs in my range bags, in the shed, next to the chainsaws, everywhere.

Doubling up is the only way to go! I didn't know any better and only wore foam ear plugs inside ranges and it finally caught up to me in 2017.

Had mine a couple years Coch. Worth every penny, very comfortable and effective

Holy I didn’t realize hearing protection was so important, I see approx comments on here about ppl getting tinnitus because of it. I’ve been hunting ever since I was 11 and never used ear-pro. This is an eye opener for sure, thanks.

I bought the TEP-100 model back in 2016. Been using it for years and really like it. It seems like it died a few months ago and would not charge any longer. I went ahead and bought the TEP-200 model for Christmas and seems to work a bit better now. I like the skull screws foam and like that I can wear it indoors and not suffer any hearing damage.

By the way guys you can get the 3M Peltor Molded, so there's no falling out of the ear and the maximum hearing protection, this is what the music industry does with IEM for professional live performance. I highly recommend this protection for everyone, but especially military/law enforcement and hunters.

whatever db reduction you get from doubling up, is what you need for regular earmuff style hearing protection imo

When I was serving in the Marines I use to cut my foamies in half which let me hear and pass commands to my squad without damaging my hearing (mostly.) Probably wouldn't recommend it too much because I do get ringing in 1 ear, but we didn't have fancy options back then and it did work. Maybe cutting 1/3 off instead of 1/2 would have been better but what are ya gonna do.

My issue with the ear muffs is the sweat. A day at the range in Florida, and I get swamp ear.

Ranger ear plugs are effective. Blocks out ambient noises of the city and if you wear ear muffs or headphones these make a good combo on top of them.

My biggest concern or really my biggest problem is that I have sensitive hearing due to having my ears damaged by a bunch of muskets when I was a kid visiting a castle when I was little and so has resulted in me being sensitive to sudden or loud noises and so the problem is that as someone who enjoys things like clay pigeon shooting,.22 small bore shooting and other things like airsoft where things like pyro and CO2 grenades tend to be used and so my point is that whilst I don’t mind the much larger and cumbersome headphones, I find that they tend to get in the way of either wearing a helmet for airsoft or too hot and sweaty whenever I use them and so I’m looking for a set of earbuds which are much smaller and less intrusive than a headset, however I find that they’re either too expensive or not what I’m looking as well as being unable to connect to a radio although I do use a one sided headset instead but I’m only asking for any pointers to my dilemma?

If the military doesn't provide you with a headset/earplugs: are you allowed to bring your own personal hearing protection headset/earplugs, for example in a shooting training? Thanks!

Foamies are good if you don’t actually need to hear anything in between shots. Low profile electronic ear muffs are good if you don’t need to wear anything on your head or eyes. The electronic ear buds attempt to solve the short comings of the other two. My solution: use the other two when possible and have a set of the electronic ear buds on hand for real life situations. Even if they’re not perfect, they’ll be a lot better than nothing and will let you wear other head gear you might need.

I've read all the peltors mics fail as they can't handle the shock. And they have no warranty.

I tried Walker active noise cancelling ear buds. They didn't work very well. I now have permanent hearing damage. If you try in-ear ear buds, and you can still hear background noise (like a radio or TV) in the background with the earbuds turned off, then they will NOT be effective at blocking muzzle blast.....

I know shooting without ear pro causes ear damage. Its interesting, however, that all my years hunting, i have never felt ringing after shooting in silent woods. Maybe adrenaline has something to do with it ?

I used the foamy ones for years in my old job. I moved away from in the ear stuff just because I started to get wax build up(not to gross everyone out) it was bad and some hardened to my ear drum. Sometimes when people wear hearing aids or in the ear hearing protection it can mess with the ears natural process of waxing. Anyway totally good with the muffs now. I love the low profile of the in the ear design but it just doesn’t work for me. Great video.

It's worth the price of admission for these. However, if you can't afford these, I use Walker's ear buds that actively compress the sound. They just came out with a new set that has rechargable batteries. These come in around $175-200. Totally worth it.

As matter of fact…. very few of the over the head muffs or literally any electric ones can achieve the same level of noise blocking vs the foam…

But once cry once when it comes to guns and gear. I have learned this the hard way and have a lot of stuff l dont use anymore now.

Learn how to properly use disposable foam ear plugs. The foam plugs, when properly inserted into the ear canal, offer the best passive protection. But, understand I said "properly" because a lot of folks don't know how to insert them. I even see them used wrong by the RU-vid operator wannabes.

I bought there flagship product just over two years ago "PROPOWER RECHARGEABLE" and now, one will not charge and they offer no repair or replacement on broken ear peace. That's $400.00 down the drain. Thanks Saf-T-Ear. Made in China.

Lmao not even close to a grand for custom molds. I went into a local hearing aid store and had them do custom molds with a set of custom plugs was 200 dollars.
