Brother Kenny, I guess now I am going to pick up 'Bitches Brew' on album. I do have it on CD, but your rundown on this Miles Davis fusion treasure got me pumped up! I do have MoFi's 'In a Silent Way', which I love, but I really didn't think that lp was Fusion in my definition of the term. Thanks again for the great comparison of these two awesome albums and have a great rest of your week! Go Mavericks!!

I have 50 Miles Davis albums, some duplications but majority are single copies. I have In A Silent Way both on Vinyl and on CD.

Very few will disagree with you. Miles Davis exploratory era of fusion created masterpieces like B. brew and In a Silent Way. However the most rock fusion album from Miles in my view was Tribute to Jack Johnson. Here you have the rock beat just like McLaughlin, Ponty or Cobhan. Funky or Latin fusion is more in my liking as Weather Report and Return to Forever, and I believe deeply Miles enjoyed this tune and printed some of this on his work. Of course this only my view and it is rewarding to hear everyone’s view as well. Thank you for sharing yours.

No quarrels with your choice. I watched your 10 best video from the link. I have every one in my collection ! 😀. Are you familiar with Larry Coryell. Some refer to him as the godfather of jazz fusion. There's been several of his releases in the past few RSD cycles. Gifted guitarist. Greg

Here's a great fusion recording for you: 1973, the first Full Moon LP, w/ Neil Larson, Buzz Feiton, Brother Gene Dinwiddie, Philip Wilson and Freddie Beckmeier. Not your typical fusion sound of the time period, the first Full Moon was a fusion of jazz and soul. Excellent. Picked up my first copy in '73 and have never grown tired of it.

When I first got online ('98-ish)...FULL MOON was the 1st cd I searched for... $30 at Tower Records online store. My 1st-ever online purchase. CD has a bonus cut written by Dave Holland. Definitely more in the Soul/R&B vibe than Jazz, IMO. Great players, tunes, & mix.

I totally agree with You Kenny. Bitches Brew is the best fusion record of all time. In A Silent Way I'd rather call "Electric Jazz". For me, the titles of the albums say it all. Silent Way is a little bit like the electric version of the albums Miles and Gil did together in the 50s. Bitches Brew is really a dangerous cocktail... with incredible trumpet playing by Miles. I guess I would not call them fusion jazz albums but I think just like Jimi Hendrix and if he would have lived longer he would have easily been able to fuse alternative Rock with Jazz in fact he was looking towards entering the Jazz world before he died. I set down & listened to both albums (Bitches Brew) and (In a silent Way) today & I would probably pick (In a silent Way) over (Bitches Brew)? You asked at the end of your review is there anything that could be more influential than these albums as far as fusion Jazz? As I mentioned if Jimi Hendrix had lived long enough he would have become a fusion sensation. John Coltrane if he had lived long enough he would have also become a fusion sensation. The albums I would choose would be John Coltrane (Favorite Things) and The John Coltrane Quartet album (Africa Brass Sessions) as being influences in not only fusion music but experimental music in general.👍

Miles was miles, miles ahead of his time, ahead of other musicians, heavily experimenting with music styles, and that is exactly what hits me... He just "made it". For me, In a Silent Way, is one of the greatest jazz albums, not in the first place a Jazz-Fusion album, but a starting point for a new era... Miles Davis was great........

Twenty years ago in mojo magazine they asked Richard prior for his favourite lp …. Bitches Brew . His favourite Saturday record? Bitches Brew . His favourite Sunday Morning record? Bitches Brew . I had to laugh , Richard was wild but I agree . It’s a one off lp , Bitches is incredible . Love the grooves with electric bass and the double bass soloing over it

A Tribute to Jack Johnson is frequently played on my tube amp driven Klipsch speakers. I like the rock aspect of it while still undeniably jazz. Of course, Mikes’ horn is the shining star of these two tracks
