I've listened to that particular Steely Dan album & it sounded amazing, so I know it's got to sound just superb on vinyl Steely Dan's song (Glamour profession) is one of my favorites. I did checkout the Wendy & Bonnie (Genesis) album & I like that kind of acoustic melody it has. It's an album that I've never heard of from that time period. If I had to update it with a modern type of album that had storytelling mixed with a moody acoustic vibe, it would be The Promise Ring 2000 album (Wood/Water). They were also teenagers when they made the album. Interestingly enough, the rest of the albums they made after their 2000 debut album (Wood/Water) looses it's acoustic flair. Enjoy👍 The Promise Ring songs (Wake up April) (Become One anything One time) (My life is at home).might jump out at you?
I checked out all 3 of your recommendations & the two that I liked were the Tania Maria album (Piquante) & Moacir Santos album (Opus 3). The free jazz album by Anthony Braxton, just like you said, had some good grooving bass to it. At times, it felt like the songs could be used for an experimental movie as theme music for different scenes. Spike Lee comes to mind.😊👍
Why don't you play some samples? I don't see any benefits for other collectors with channels like these. No offense. You're not the only one. Yoo Tyoob censorship sucks. That, I'm sure of.
What a neat guy you are, and thank you for talking about Gene Puerling and his arranging gifts. The Hi-Los and The Singers Unlimited is beyond words! VITAL, the Singers Unlimited really are!
Awesome! Thanks, Kenny! I learned something - I had never heard of Gary McFarland so I will check him out for sure! I’m super excited for the Cal Tjader OJC coming out later this year 😎
This was one of the first jazz albums that I ever bought - I got both In a Silent Way and Sonny Sharrock's Ask the Ages new on cassette on the same day at Virgin Megastore back in late 1992 when I was 17. Then in 2001, I got the In a Silent Way box set when it came out. It's still one of my all time favourite records.
I do not keep up on the current music scene that much at all (I probably should because i know im missing out on some talent)..the only modern artist that I did a review on was Beyonce.
@@kennysaudiophilerecordreviews I posted a couple of excellent LP. From what I have seen of your posts, it’s things you would like. We are in a golden age of jazz. I have been collecting records since 1987. Started with late 1940s music and have stayed current. The amount of jazz available today is unprecedented. You should check out Charenee Wade The Offering (Tribute to Brian Jackson and Gil Scott Heron) and the latest Samara Joy. Nice contrast and two great vocalist. The Wade is CD only unfortunately but you can break in that DAC!
Purple vs Black vinyl is the difference on the Ellington. Really eager to hear your thoughts on the difference (if any) in sound quality. I have an OG of Indigos in 33, and really have my eye on these 45s. Glad Impex sent them for you to review.
I t would be interesting to hear you make a comparison between the different versions of Jazz At The Pawnshop. By the way, I have the Swedish og of that vinylrecord on Proprius/Prophone from 1977 😊
Kenny, You're the best. I just got my copy of Kenny Burrell - Guitar Forms, a verve reissue. top shelf pressing and packaging and the music is sublime. My favorite vinyl purchase so far this year . Keep up the great work and congrats on your recent small windfall, to put towards additional soundscaping. have a nice summer. Brez in Boston👍🏻
I have heard that some blu ray players like Oppo output DSD but I do not know of a SACD player that does....I guess I'm going to have to get a good blu-ray player at some point.
I love the early PMG...Mark Egan is fantastic on "Jaco". Another early Metheny album with Jaco is the one with Paul Bley & Bruce Ditmas. Hard hitting, not so much easy as BSL.
I love lists like this. Every jazz listener has a different Top 10, but you have several here that I really like, such as Getz' Focus, Coltrane's A Love Supreme, The Koln Concert and Mingus Ah Um, so that gives me confidence I will find enjoyment in the recordings you included that I don't know, such as McCoy's Fly With the Wind and Pharaoh Sanders' Karma LP. Thank-you very much.
Kenny, sorry if someone's already mentioned this - I've not read all comments. just FYI - "au lait" is French.. it basically sounds like "oh lay", and means "with milk".
Brother Kenny, Tania Maria is fantabulous, as you would say! I have 'Come with Me' from 1983 and 'Made in New York' from 1985, both amazing albums. She has a style all her own! Love Eliane Elias, a female piano player/singer and Azymuth, a fantastic Brazilian fusion band as well! Peace and love my brother!
Elaine Elias is a very good performer...I only have one of her albums ("So Far So Close" on Blue Note Records) but it is very nice 👍 👌...peace and love and I hope that you enjoy your weekend ✌️
I clicked in because I like this guy and appreciate the benefits I can gain from a collectors knowledge. But I also had some trepidations because I already have more records than I have time for, and this guy always brings it, strongly. what I feared , happened, now I want a Tania Maria record , that artist is so strong , even I have heard of her, but I never had any direction to avoid buying a dud. Free jazz is the inevitable progression of jazz as a product of being in the moment , and best heard without expectations, as if in a live club from where it came, responding to the audience , or in recorded form , another's musical statement. it is a performance art, unlike painting or sculpture , born of collaboration
Wow Kenny! was just listening to that Anthony Braxton album two days ago. I love it. Actually "You stepped out of a dream" I'll sometimes skip, if i'm just in the mood for the free jazz. It's so different from the rest of the album. Love the whole album though. I have several of his records. Good job.
Another great video Kenny. I haven't listened to Tania Maria in a long time so I pulled my copy of The Real Tania Maria: Wild! recorded live at The Great American Music Hall in San Francisco September 1984 (released 1985) and gave it a spin. Fun live versions of hits from previous albums. Thanks for the reminder of a talented artist.
Hello! Here you have a really good jazz guitarist and and album,if you don't have this album I recommend you to get it!!! Elek Bacsik - Jazz Guitarist: Elek Bacsik Philips - PHS 600-079 Format;LP, Stereo Country USA Released:1963 Thanks/Jan Ahlberg / Finland
My system was featured in a video April 12th, 2022. Below is a link to the video, it does not include my new denafrips Pontus 15th DAC or my Hana ML or Audio-Technica AT33MONO cartridges in use with my Technics SP-15 turntable ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-W-6Ku3sviW8.html
Very interesting selection! My one would just a bit different, but your choices are all lovely, no exception! I'll keep on following you. Thanks once again. Luigi (from Italy)
Yo yo! Dope collection! Just a tip, since you love music so much I’d recommend moving those speakers further apart and away from the wall if possible. Looks like you invested in some pretty good speakers, and that will really help the sound quality.
Great buy; I've had the Ares II for a few years, and I've been impressed with it. If I ever upgrade a few years down the line, I'm sticking with Denafrips.
Hi Kenny, you brought a smile in my face...I have 4 Metheney albums, and the white one with no title is my favorit. ECM ist a german label in Gräfelfing/Munich. They have a little shop where you can by the music- and also noodles and wine etc. Thanks for your video whitch reminds me to hear this music nowadays...Greetings from Bavaria
Great stuff, I love me some Pat Metheny. Au Lait from Offramp is so haunting and spooky. It's For You from Wichita absolutely crushes me. For whatever reason I associate that song with all the friends, family and pets I've known over the years who are no longer with me. Lyle's synth on that song is just so beautiful. Nana is the secret weapon on those lps.
I have been retired for 8 years and I like my RC airplanes and helicopters, when I retired I thought no more buys I gotta put that money towards my budget...that didn't happen, last month I bought another helicopter for $1700.🤣🤣🤣 Throughout the 8 years there were many.."I gotta have that"🤣
Its hard to compile a list as there is so much to listen to and yet to discover but let's name it a present favorite moods list in no particular order :) Oliver Nelson - The Blues And The Abstract Truth Art Farmer - On The Road The Bobby Timmons Trio - In Person Walter Strerath - Trio Quartet Quintet The Ramsey Lewis Trio - Wade In The Water The Jan Huydts / Peter Trunk / Joe Nay Trio - Trio Conception The Horace Silver Quintet & Trio - Blowin' The Blues Away Yusef Lateef - Eastern Sounds Chico Hamilton Trio - Introducing Freddie Gambrell Lonnie Liston Smith And The Cosmic Echoes - Reflections Of A Golden Dream I like different jazz styles but must admit I have had to learn to appreciate fusion (which I do now:) ) and still do, free jazz. Most of the time I tend to lean towards styles like hard bop, post bop, soul-jazz and jazz-funk. Probably because I like soul and funk too ;) For example I really like this particular song Wild And Peaceful by Kool & The Gang that has that dreamy mellow and jazz mood woven into it. That's why I also like the music from the era where soul-jazz developed in which a lot of jazz connoisseurs had difficulty with accepting as they were stating this wasn't actually on the path of real jazz anymore. And if i may take the liberty in adding a second top ten list of wanna haves :) (Again in no particular order) Freddie Hubbard - The Body & The Soul Dizzy Reece - Star Bright Freddie Redd Quintet - Shades Of Redd Lee Morgan - The Complete Live At The Lighthouse (Hermosa Beach, California) Herbie Hancock - Man-Child The Cannonball Adderley Quintet - At The Lighthouse Dave Bailey Quintet - Reaching Out Slide Hampton Octet - Sister Salvation Bobby Hutcherson - Montara The Nathan Davis Sextet - Makatuka
Both of your lists are awesome...I couple I have not heard before but your lists are great. Thank you very much for taking the time to post your lists and watching my video 😊 ✌️
@@kennysaudiophilerecordreviews Thank you for your kind reply and your content! Subscribe; Check! BTW, one down from the wants-list, Lee Morgan, the full 8 disc edition alongside the 3 disc witch will probably go up for sale now
I think I’ve got over 3000 pieces currently, the vast majority being LPs and a handful of long boxes of 7” singles, a few 12” single boxes. I’ve inherited probably over a hundred LPs from family over the years, but the majority of my shopping is either new vinyl from artists I like but the MOST I buy is used from various records stores I shop at both at home and in my travels.
For what was like forever, I had collected and then recently saw Pat in concert. A thrill to hear him explain his instruments and the changes his music has taken.
Very good here Kenny, I’m a huge Pat Metheny fan and I have all of his stuff, including the newer stuff. Off Ramp and Witcha Falls were my favorite but I really liked them all. There is an artist, who was a drummer, Larry Bright that in my opinion didn’t get his just dues before his death and his first album, Solar Vision which is extremely rare, if you can find it, it ranges from 180-350. It has never had a reissue, or even a cd, but another one of his albums had a reissue two years ago on rsd. Solar Vision is from either 1978 or 83. The album is in a word incredible, one of the best Jazz fusion albums ever made. If you or your audience has time check it out on RU-vid. Larry worked with Sun Ra, Ahmad Jamal, Buddy Guy, John Scofield, John Lee Hooker and Paquita D’Rivera amongst others.
Dear Kenny or should I say King Jazz Kenny...what a joy to watch this video, Pat Metheny is one of my favourites and I do have most of the albums you showed, a true genius, thanks for sharing these albums the story behind them and the immense wealth of information of Jazz which I never knew before ...keep well
Great video . Bright Size Life ! Yes that lp has Jaco and Bob Moses on drums . Jaco on his 1961 ? Fender bass that de de fretted and coated the neck with boat epoxy . In an interview in guitar player magazine in 1984 he talked about it saying that you can get Pettit epoxy from any good boat store ??? Yeah of course we had loads of boat stores in east London in 1984 . I didn’t let that stop me from ripping the frets out of my Kay Precision. They play the Ornette Coleman tune Broadway Blues and that has some serious Jaco on that track . It’s not really a fusion record , it’s a modern jazz guitar trio . Years later in 2011 I went to Florida to the Jaco area of Deerfield Beach . Loads of boat stores and fishing
Brother Kenny, now you're really cooking! I have over 100 pieces of Pat Metheny on Vinyl and CD! They have to be my favorite of all time!
