At our beginning of our roadtrip around Europe we've decided to explore Slovenia. We filmed a cinematic video by drone with our DJI Mavic Pro of Lake Bled, the island, the church, and the viewpoints of this beautiful place.
Other than Ljubljana and Piran, we couldn't miss the beauty of Lake Bled which is one of our favorite places in Europe!
Lake Bled is a stunning glacial lake in northwestern Slovenia, surrounded by picturesque alpine scenery and a charming island with the iconic Church of the Assumption. Visitors can enjoy walking, cycling, swimming, and fishing, as well as exploring the medieval Bled Castle and nearby Vintgar Gorge. It is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts and offers breathtaking views and a peaceful atmosphere.
One of the intriguing legends associated with Lake Bled is the legend of the Sunken Bell. According to the story, a young widow wanted to keep her husband's bell but dropped it into the lake during transport. It is said that if you make a wish and ring the bell in the church on Bled Island, your wish will come true.
The focal point of Lake Bled is its picturesque island, known as Bled Island, situated near the center of the lake. On the island stands the iconic Church of the Assumption, a charming medieval church with a bell tower. Visitors can reach the island by traditional wooden boats called pletnas.
Lake Bled was formed during the last Ice Age through glacial activity. The glacier carved out a basin, which eventually filled with water, giving rise to the stunning lake that we see today.
Perched on a rocky cliff overlooking the lake is Bled Castle, a medieval fortress that dates back to the 11th century. The castle offers panoramic views of Lake Bled and the surrounding Julian Alps, making it a must-visit attraction.
Lake Bled is not just a feast for the eyes; it also offers natural thermal springs renowned for their healing properties. The thermal waters are believed to have a soothing effect and have been enjoyed by visitors for centuries.
A 6-kilometer-long walking and cycling path encircles Lake Bled, providing visitors with the opportunity to explore the lake's shoreline. The path offers breathtaking views and allows you to immerse yourself in the tranquility of the surroundings.
