Cloth Cap ran the opposition into the ground with a superb all-the-way triumph in the Ladbrokes Trophy at Newbury.
The Jonjo O’Neill-trained eight-year-old was given an ultra-positive ride by Tom Scudamore, who also made the most of carrying bottom weight in the prestigious staying handicap chase.

Cloth Cap by Beneficial makes all, and flies the jumps ! Going: good, good to soft in places. Winning time: 6m 21.10s (fast by 2.90s)

What a joy to see an intelligent rider unafraid of exploiting his mount's strengths - instead of all these negative hold-up merchants, who seem to like to give away five or ten lengths at the start and then hunt round at the back till the field quickens and they're left behind.

Brilliant round of jumping, great ride from Tom,and John Joe what can you say, good luck with cloth cap he,s special, and of course the cloth cap referring to Mr hemming's headwear Love to see the likes of trevor hemmings do well he puts so much into the game.

This just shows what a good horse Frodon is he beat Cloth cap by 15 lengths last time and was carried 24 lbs more. But these chasers all have their day. Kildisart had an off day watch out for him after xmas.

Had £25 EW, I just felt his price was too big considering his form on Good ground versus the others. Ground is always most important thing for Jump Racing GLA!

Tom what a race that was some ride jumping for fun . Well done Jonjo and Cloth Cap as jonjo always says Super. Fighting fifth and Aidan Coleman and this with Tom Scudamore. Hands and heels no whips that's what u want to see

I don’t think a horse has led from start to finish in the national but trevor Hemings knows a grand national horse and I see this fella running them ragged if he goes that is .. my opinion only folks

English horses and their English form is gutter form when the big boys come out to play 3/15 finishers in GN were English, first five home were Irish,10 off the first 11 home were Irish.Irish horses dominated Cheltenham and Arkle only big race not to win and he's Irish owned with the Irish top horse not running due to injury.May at Newmarket will see the Irish dominate the flat Classics as well.
