bird owner is the wrong thing to say , if you conceder your self as a owner its a big problem after what you say. and i agree its Horrible

Sad part is a lot of people find stores like this okay and normal... I mean if it were puppies being kept in conditions like this,so many more people would find this place as disgusting as you and I do

@@SUS-yk2eq Agreed. Birds are often overlooked in many regards in the plant world. A lot of the smaller ones like budgies are seen as disposable. Very hard to see them in conditions like this.

I’ve seen them change over the years. They banned certain dog breeds. Then they banned wild-caught turtles, and then most turtles. Where I used to see all kinds of turtles and tortoises from around the world, there’s just red eared sliders. I think it’s changing, but slowly.

@snide. Yeah, every change is somewhat good and important, even if they happen slowly. One big problem I saw multiple times are the new emerging markets, after the previous one was banned. I saw that in many countries, when such market with all kind of animals was banned by the city, only to reopen in a different place with the same people. Sometimes, the animals that are not sold are either released, killed or smuggled across the country. These huge breeder and supplier networks must definitely be punished so that these markets finally die out. But most countries have other "more important" problems to solve or just don't care. On the one hand, I can understand the people who buy animals there. They are cheap, especially when you look at expensive dog and cat breeds it's maybe "worth it" at first. But it shouldn't be ethical to support these people in any way.

For sure. If there’s an overnight ban, those animals still exist. I think the markets just go underground, with likely even shadier practices. I imagine at some point, a huge amount of pets around the world are farmed in a similar way. I don’t know what the solution is. An unrealistic dream would be to ban the market, buy out the stock and create a giant natural aviary somewhere.

Yeah the shop owners’ birds, they’ve trained them…but pretty sure those are for sale too.

Its mostly people impulse buying birds for cheap to keep them as decorations or for presents for kids,instead of properly caring for and socializing with the birds. Which when properly tamed,can become wonderful companions.

Exactly this. Also, Chinese new year. Think the mentality of getting a puppy for Christmas back in the day.

Huge country. There’s a large number of logistics companies present on the streets outside this market. You can also get a bird delivered in 20mins, just as easily as you can get food.

This place is disgusting,tho... I mean many people don't see birds and small animals with the same value as other larger pets. But most people would be disgusted if it were puppies being kept in conditions like this. I'm suprised this place is allowed to exist at all! They're so horrible... I mean imagine living your life stuck in a little tote with nothing to do surrounded by dozens of other people. Some of these birds have nowhere to perch at all... And all of them have clipped wings. It truly is sad...
