Having trained with chain weapons extensively: the weight of the head is very important, and yours is too small to effectively guide the weapon. The cahin whip is way too long for a single hand but about the right size for two hands, you'd need to keep the handle in a hand and use the other to guide the strike, extending and retracting the chain. Spinning a shorter portion and then "launching forward" motions this way are rather effective and the basics of rope dart/meteor hammer tecniques.
A little observation: Maybe it doesn't work because it's being used like a a flail instead of like an actual whip. While a flail just requires the "throw" (as demostrated by the viking with the badass beard), a whip requires to "throw" and to "retrieve" (remember Indiana Jones?).
Since he never "extends" the whip fully there's no acceleration. It's like he's using a tennis racket with only his wrist instead of whipping it with his entire arm.
It's also worth noting that whipping would be much more practical if it were an actual leather bullwhip. That's what the Vampire Killer canonically is in most of the games. The chain normally acts as an upgrade that still behaves like a whip because videogames.
I have experimented with similar things to the whip, albeit with a golf ball and a length of paracord. Its mich, much more effective and accurate if you have it all looped, start a small rotation, and then release the loop to the desired distance. If it were a real fight, it seem to me making your opponent unaware of your full range, or how far you are swinging with one, would be a great way to catch em off guard, at least at first.
The maneuvers were pretty stylish but I liked they added the morning star simply had to touch evil and they would explode. That puts a bit of an edge on it being a whip and let them do some fun things like the wrap around knock into the mouth and kick away. It doesn't get caught on anything either because there's nothing left.
@@CazadorSlayer I mean I know what a tree we have a shit ton of them in New Zealand but not squirrels however we do have lots of another certain fluffy mammal...
@@theelderlardrider2425 Wow. You just happen to live in one of the 3 places Squirrels don't infest. Australia, New Zealand, and Antarctica. That's it. The little bastards have conquered every other landmass. You are one of the few human colonies that hasn't fallen to the tyrannical rodent's rule!
good point actually. it still will never extend the way it does in the game ofc, but it will be more realistic. by the way: in bloodstained, the unofficial next castlevania made by igarashi, the whips have a more realistic animation, and a wider arc of a hitbox, instead of a straight line.
His weapon existed in Japan and was used by Edo period policeman. Keep in mind other was rarer than regular batons, but it was still out their. pin.it/szzvhhlzrnuxm4 pin.it/lm5rifhakvb24o pin.it/4u23crgfara2n7
Skall laughing in pure delight at a fearless, angry squirrel isn’t something I realized I needed this morning, but goddamn is my morning brighter now that I saw it
Its like when a lion gets caught trying to hunt and all the animals will screech at it to alert other animals of a danger. The squirrels saw you attacking the dummy and are now alerting others that there is a danger. Castlevania RULZ
I assume you've seen the Castlevania anime, and seen the difference in fighting style Trevor uses to what you've seen in previous games and animated shorts. This was largely based on Chinese rope dart fighting. I actually think those techniques would work well with your improvised whip, but it's a WIDE departure from what you already know and would likely take you quite some time to pick up.
In Trevor’s case it is an enchanted weapon afterall. And I recall he also uses it like it’s a normal whip alongside the rope dart style and other chain weapon techniques.
Poor squirrel was trying to protect its home and family. Or maybe it has a problem with your videos and instead of ranting in the comment section, it wants to fight you irl.
0:00 - 0:22 That was just too good and absolutely made my morning! ( you absolutely nailed the Belmont walk jump and Crouch animations! ) Happy holidays
I like the interpretation of the Netflix animated series, where the mere contact with the Vampire killer makes the undead explode. It makes it way more deadly.
He also makes sure he has more whip motions combined with chain weapon moves like how he on the fly use small adjustmenta to make his whip hit alucard in the side.
That might actually work. I've heard squirrels are big fans of peanuts, the kind still in the shell... Also, fermented fruit, but getting the local squirrels drunk might be a bad idea, especially considering how belligerent they already are when stone-cold sober. 😁
I remember the whip in Castlevania was the first thing in a game that made me pay attention to physics in games. There was nothing that felt as "real" at the time.
Great video. I've always liked the Castlevania games, and wondered about the chain whip in them. Nice to see you give it a go. Plus, I LOVED the angry squirrels! You should name that area of the woods, something to respect the kingdom of squirrels with attitude!
Could you even do that with a padlock as the weight on the end? I feel like if you tried to take your eye out that way, you'd just end up cracking your nose open or something.
But most of the belmonts could not use magic right? Thats why simon uses holy water, daggers, axes as sub weapons it is not until later in the series they can use magic.
It's explained in Lament of Innocence I think. The Vampire Killer is an alchemic whip made by Rinaldo Gandolfi that keeps its leather whip properties even when it transforms into a chain
the only theory I have on why the chain whip works in the lore, is cause an alchemisth placed a spell on the morning star that is attached to it that makes it attracted to demon spawn, pulling it towards them, and that the metal used to forge it, was an iron cross from a cathedral, making the demon explode into flames on contact
Never have I been glad to have been called a miserable little pile of secrets. One of my favourite RU-vidrs unexpectedly talking about my favourite gaming series Castlevania (and also another of my favourite RU-vidrs, the AVGN) while also bringing his usual sound analysis. Magnificent. EDIT: Also, that intro gives me life.
Plus its practically impossible to use it in a battlefield situation if you are in close formations for obvious reasons. a rope dart/chain whip is much more effective at crowd control or keeping an attacker at a distance so for example if you put a skilled knife wielder against a skilled flexible weapons practitioner the latter is going to win on pure reach alone but if you have a skilled longswordmen he can just dodge and cut the rope dart rendering it useless
Whips are made of what theyre made of so they can roll that force down the whip; I doubt a chain could do the motions needed for a whip motion or any cracking
That's not as effective as it sounds, since the energy doesn't transfer down to the tip all that efficiently because of all the segments though if you threaded something through all the chain segments(cord or similar) it could work pretty well, but at that point it'd pretty much just one seriously beefed up regular whip.
Wanted to give tips, Skall, from an ole nunchucker who messed around with rope darts time-to-time. Rope darts gain power from the control you have over the tension in the line. By two handing the line/rope/chain you can apply centrifugal force by spinning the weight and then slackening the line towards your target to strike. Spinning also intimidates the opponent (not very effective against Bob the Stoic, but at least you can smack him harder once you get the line going). It also gives you a close range option when you choke up the line, so you can use it as a short range flail/nunchuck as much as a long range whip. Mace will always be more powerful, but the rope dart will almost always hit FIRST, which is why you would bother learning it. There IS also a follow-through on attacks, but it behaves slightly differently for flexible weapons than for rigid arsenal. Main idea of keeping control of the weapon is still the same, though. Once the weight strikes the target, the force you built up by spinning or throwing is transferred from weapon to target same as any sword. But for a rope dart, striking puts slack into the line. Slack loosens your control of the weapon. Das bad. You need to gently pull the line post-strike in order to regain control. BIG NOTE WHEN DOING THAT is that this means the metal weight will be flying back towards YOU. When you pull, direct the weight so that it returns to your SIDE and not your FACE. Slacken and pull with your hands as necessary to maintain control, return to a neutral spin, and wrap up loose line. If anyone beans themselves in the head, that’s on YOU for losing control. Don’t do that. So a complete strike would be: neutral spin for power and range, release as the weight spins forward, strike target, tighten slack, and redirect into neutral spin. Hope this helps a prospective vampire slayer defend his castle from the angry undead legion of squirrels. Just hope you don’t meet any of unusual size (but I don’t think those exist).
Just off the top, I've made one of these and there actually pretty devastating... Yours is waaayyy to long lol like 6 feet max my guy, also it's more of a flicking motion then your ham fisted mace swings
What if it worked like an actual whip? Starting at a specific diameter and then the chain rings would get smaller and smaller towards the tip? Sorry if it's a stupid question tho
I missed this video apparently, but I'm glad I came across it two years later, lol. That squirrel at the end was awesome. "Hey! Hey you! Sword guy! Yeah you! Wanna go? I will destroy you!"
How i always interpreted it, the chain is made of silver and on contact with the undead Simon always fights it burns through them. That's why it goes through multiple targets and why they burn when they die. TLDR: Simon's chain whip is like a 1000 degree knife video
The vampire killer is definitely an enchanted weapon! Wether the chain is silver or not is another matter. It does also exist in a leather bullwhip form in a lot of the games where that’s its base form before collecting power ups and the morning star chain whip is it’s truest form
