I was a country kid. No tv, no phone.. just a whole lot of imagination and outside chores. It was the best thing ever. We thanked the animal that blessed us with meat , we were thankful & so grateful for the life that was able to sustain us. Our animals had the best life ever & were able to give our family the best life ever!! 🙏🏼 I miss those days.

I was born and raised on a farm, with over 400 head of sheep, 75 cows, horses and numerous chickens, in all weathers and completely loved it. I feel it is healthy to expose children to how the world gets food, my eldest son had a friend who was 19 yrs old, and insisted that milk just came from a factory, and stored in bottles or cartons, he fainted when I explained where dairy milk came from.

Gosh, the knowledge u guys are instilling into ur girls, is truly SO valuable! You guys are setting them up to succeed as independent adults in the world. I wish my parents had taught me how to actually be an independent, self-sufficient, adult, that can do more than merely survive in the world. I'm now 27, & I didn't even know how to use the washer/dryer, until I was like 16-17yrs old! (To give u an idea how 'sheltered' I was growing up lol🙄) I mean, i legit just discovered that I've been brushing my teeth all wrong! 😂🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️🙈🤫 Lol

I grew up as a city kid, my aunt, uncle, and some of their children had farms. My Dad once chose the consequence to my sister's and my misbehavior to be working on the farm. We were dreading it. Our task was to walk behind the tractor and pick up all the little "new" potatoes that were too small for the equipment to gather. About an hour in, it was no longer a chore - it was fun. We got to throw dirt and super tiny potatoes at each other. We ended up being so covered in dirt that my cousin used a garden hose to spray us down before we could enter her house to "clean up." One of my favorite childhood memories to this day. You're doing a great job by including them in the day-to-day operations of your home and farm. They will grow up to be resourceful, compassionate, and caring women.

Being 100% self sustainable is nothing to be gawked at over. You know that tomorrow is never promised. Local markets and grocery stores are not a promise, they are a luxury we see as something that won’t disappear. The way our world is acting leads me to believe self sustainability is a must.

You are doing a wonderful job raising your children the way you are. I grew up on a working farm, I am 60 now, and it certainly didn't harm me in anyway. My mom was an amazing woman who could do anything. Both Mom and Dad were hardworking great people. But Mom could do it all, it seemed. I so appreciate the upbringing I got and wouldn't trade it for a city life ever! My husband and I moved our family out to a farm 26 years ago and tried to give our children a similar childhood. No regrets.

I’m now 41 and grew up on a farm in Australia. Some of my favorite childhood memories are working in the vegetable garden with my mother. And even processing sheep and cows for butchering for food as a family. I feel like living these experiences toughened me up for some of the real world realities. Kids these days are sheltered a lot and are losing the skills to rationalize and work through tough periods. As an elementary teacher, the amount of kids who think milk comes from a store amazes me. You’re doing a great job with your girls, by treating these things as normal activities and teaching them where foods come from and how to produce them is invaluable!

Love her content on there) so hopefully next year we will have some land and be able to get going. It's the life I've always wanted my kids to grow up in. Being able to know what goes in your food and where it came from is a huge thing for me. I have many allergies and always having issues from certain foods. Just wanna share some knowledge I have on the “sick” symptoms you speak of. You can have allergies to where it feels like you are getting sick but it’s actually allergies. That can explain why you don’t see a progression in your symptoms into a cold for example. Allergies can be from foods or environment or products used. You can document what you eat and what you are around to see if you can notice what you are doing before you feel not good. Allergies can present themselves in many many diff symptoms not just a sneeze.

I have been watching you since Callie was in diapers. I have laughed and cried with you. I sort have adopted you as a daughter in my prayer life. God laid you on my path because in some ways I needed you and your story more than I can explain or make sense of. I have been able to get through my walk of life watching you grow your family and home. Alex you have no idea how your story has touched me and I have been blessed to watch it, ugly crying and all. My children are in the world and have a burden of not having them at all. No contact, no signs of life from them. The story of my children is a very hard cross to bear. So when the over whelming need to want them has been by burden. Your story of arms that want to hold another babe is so great and the yearning to have another is understandable. I pray that some how in some way God gives you the desire of your heart. We all dont know what's around the corner, we just know God is there! We love you! and Phill :)

I learned this sickness-fighting trick when I was a public school teacher. At first sign of a cold, I’d brew a tea from crushed red pepper, add some honey and lemon and sip on it all day. I’d also flush my sinuses with salt water . (It has to sting a bit.). Worked like a charm every time. Helped with allergies, too.

When I was a child my mother took us to a farm to visit someone and unknown to mom, it was chicken butchering day! There were these men chopping off chicken heads and letting the chicken bodies jump and flop all over the yard and the chicken heads eyes were blinking and I just couldn’t take it, I ran in the house to my mother and wouldn’t go back out. It was very traumatic to me. I would never expose a child to that. I understand now, it’s the way people feed they’re families.

People are sadly so disconnected from where food comes from. Families used to normally grow at least something amd be familiar with getting meat themselves and preparing it themselves or seeing it at the butcher shop and be more connected to the full process. Many are so far away from it they see it as traumatic or negative for kids to grow up with it. Your kids are lucky and you don't overburden them with work. It's a family team effort. It's when parents put too much work on kids to the point they cannot play amd have fun amd only work is when its bad.
