I second that, comparison with Edition XS in particular, as it is even cheaper than the ananda and when I tried it I found it pretty agreeable tuning wise, close to what is my preference overall, the hifiman with the least amount of eq needed that I've tried so far, while I hear from left and right that the ananda family in general is just too lean and bright sounding, though I've never heard one. Meze 109 pro would be interesting too, with the ananda likely winning in resolution and imaging, and the 109 pro winning in dynamic and bass response.

The benefit of hifiman is how easy it is to EQ them. With such a good baseline and highly technicality of their headphone, you can easily make something like Edition XS sound as good as meze 109 pro. But EQ is hard I understand so if you have money get what you like.

There seems to be some unit variance in the treble of this headphone. Some people didn't really think this was that bright of a headphone, even though they don't necessarily like bright tuning. Others said that this was just too bright for them. I don't know if I'd like this headphone, but I kind of want to try it still, coming up from an HD650, the Nano should be a nice compliment.

He1000se is now my favorite hifiman from climbing up the ladder insanely clear, transparent, wide, and smooth, and there is extended treble, but its not sharp as the treble with he1000v2 or arya can get a little spiky or hot with sibilance here and there the se has this control and fluidity that I haven’t heard, in any other high end hifiman .. and it’s super easy to drive!! susvaras a little too crazy with the high-end gear you need lol

I just need the detail man. I sold the OG Ananda's the quickest after purchase bc they just didn't resolve enough for the price, and I found that to be the case for the XS's and the Sundara's as well. Its due time we had a sub $1000 high resolving planar in my opinion.
@ChildrenOfDesire
@ChildrenOfDesire 10 месяцев назад
Hifiman Arya, HE6SEv2 are well under 1k right now - that's what I would recommend. By the way, what headphones do you consider detailed that you tried so far? I find it interesting you didn't think those headphones were detailed enough, especially the Ananda for the price. Only headphone I can really think that is considerably better at detail for around that price range is HE6SEV2, used Focal Clear etc - stands up to pretty much anything else in the price range IMO
@18andcloudy
@18andcloudy 10 месяцев назад
@@ChildrenOfDesire Yeah Arya's are great but when i was looking a year ago i couldn't find them under $1000. Had the HE6SEv2's, they were the second most disappointing, I might have had a dud pair - the detail was there but literally everything else was off. they just sounded super claustrophic, The Verum 1's were actually my fave Planar under $1000 by a large margin, actually - not sure if they're even available anymore. I have LCD 2's now, these or Clears if you can find them for $600-700 then definite cop imo
@ChildrenOfDesire
@ChildrenOfDesire 10 месяцев назад
@@18andcloudy I think the HE6SEv2 can come across as claustrophobic because they are sort of an intense sounding pair of headphones, especially as you raise the volume I find my ears get overwhelmed fast and then I get that claustrophobic feeling. I'm not sure what it is, but it's the intimate soundstage, coupled with the dynamics. Honestly though I can't say I agree with everything else being off, it's technically very good at most things including imaging, bass extension etc. I do sort of have to listen quieter with my HE6SEv2 to not feel fatigued but I do like them - I think Crinacle made a similar note about them - they're just really highly strung but they are good if you want what they do - being an overall very good, fairly neutral headphone outside of not having a very wide/tall soundstage and being a bit intense. I have the LCD-2 but I don't think that it's particularly detailed, it's probably about the same level as the Ananda detail retrieval wise (maybe a bit better) but it does sound good, I think it sort of wins over the HiFiMan headphones in terms of timbre and warmth. The Ananda kind of sucks because it's thin sounding and tries to push detail it can't really resolve by being artificially bright (some people call it fake detail/macro-detail), while the LCD2 is the opposite - the detail is just naturally there and not trying to be pushed in your face. Focal Clear IMO, it's also very nice and I think this definitely wins in timbre, being able to resolve texture of instruments, microdynamics are better than any of the above planars for sure. It's amongst my favourite dynamic driver headphones, but it does have that very slight haze to everything which I haven't really found any DD to not have yet (when you listen to Stax you'll also realise that Planars actually also have a little bit of this too, in that speed + clarity department, which is why people get that 'uncanny valley' feeling when listening to Stax for the first time). I do feel like detail wise it's sort of right inbetween Ananda/LCD2 and HE6SEv2/Arya etc, probably closer to the latter.

Get yourself the Ananda Nano and a tube pre amp. Some tubey sound really makes the Nano sound amazing. Highly technical yet extremely fun and engaging. The tubes also will widen the soundstage, add depth and height will also giving oomph and texture to the lows. Truly endgame stuff. The LCD-X 2021 and Focal Clear OG/MG are pretty meh to me now. They sound boring and lifeless compared to the Nano. Just put it, you want resolution, detail and clarity that surpasses the HD800s? Ananda Nano. Soundstage isn't as wide but imaging and overall everything else is better on it

@S.G54321
@S.G54321 10 месяцев назад
No comparison. The Meze 109 may be warmer and smoother. But the Ananda Nano is just insane with its clarity, slam, dynamic swing, raw detail, extremely precise imaging and wide soundstage. The Meze 109 sounds closed in comparison. Adding tubes to the Ananda Nano just makes them endgame potential. I haven't touched my Meze 109 pro, Focal Clear OG and LCD-X 2021 in a while. Only reason I could see someone getting themselves the Meze 109 is if they want something more laid back. But other than that, Ananda Nano all the way. Just be sure to have a good source. Synergy matters a lot with the Ananda Nano. I personally don't like it with solid state amps. Tubes or hybrid amps sound much better. Even a solid state with a tube pre amp works. But solid state alone, it just sounds very clinical unless the solid state amp is tilt to a slightly warmer tuning

The Sundara was a great option at it's time when competing with things like the M1060's, but nowadays, with headphones like the HE400SE or the HD560S existing that are way cheaper and with headphones slightly above it's price point that are a giant leap from it, you cannot simply recommend it to everybody anymore. It depends which type of profile you're after. If the Harman curve is your thing, then no, they are not. If the Sonarwork is your thing, then yes, by quite a bit. In other word, if your a Hi-fi enthusiast, you're good to go. If on the other hand you expect on using them for mixing and mastering, you will need a custom calibration for a correction software. once corrected, those are phenomenal. Too difficult to give a blind recommendation and be sure you'll like it, you just have to listen to stuff and figure out what you like. With that being said, HE400SE, Sundara.

The comfort on these is horrible. Look how angled back the pads are. That combined with the clamp force combined with no swivel combined with the location and tightness of the pleather band made these incredibly uncomfortable for me no matter how much I tried to adjust them. They seem like they were designed to try and look sleek rather than for any sort of comfort. The tuning is good for music if the recordings aren't already high treble and the detail is great but for gaming and movies they pretty much suck because they have no dynamic or punch at lower volumes and at higher volumes, where you get a sense of dynamics, the treble is unbearable. To me the treble becomes unbearable at about 80 dba which is a little high but about what a "fun" listening volume would be.

Stop recording things that don't even last 6 months...
