12 years still i am still come and listen some times.... i am now 38 years old.... imay be i will play ice wind dale again to remember my younger times...
When I heard this song in game for the first time, I stopped, shocked and stunned. I couldn't believe such a beautiful sound was coming from a video game. I immediately knew I would remember this game, this ADVENTURE for the rest of my life.
I remember playing Icewind Dale as 15 years old kid(in 2000). Even tho people of that age tend to appreciate different things than beautiful music. Icewind Dale music, and this song in particular, made me go "woooooaaahh".
Playing both IWD 2 and BG 2 was the best part of my childhood... Plenty of good - even "epic" games were released since that time and I played them too but... Yes, that's true that they don't have "the soul". The soul that makes me want to come back to the Forgotten Realms even now, 9 years later after my first contact with those masterpieces.
New games have soul, many have deep story (the witcher 3 has for example 50x better storyline and characters than icewind dale) you just dont feel nostalgic for new games. Or you're just blind and only recent games you know are cods, bfs (though they have really good gameplay, not just graphics) etc. I also like more old games, but that's because genres I like were more popular back then, but that doesn't mean I don't see recent games with great storyline, characters or gameplay. Saying "new games have only graphics" is really really ignorant.

I just noticed I uploaded this video 6 years ago, give or take a few months. Wow.... I realise the images I chose are a little tacky now, but I hope you guys still enjoy the music! That's what counts.
holy shit, I have often seen people upload like you did and then die off 2 years later never to be heard of again, only their channel remains. this is the first time in a lot of youtube searching I actually see someone looking back like you did
Horst Weinert There's a wealth of knowledge on YT so I come here all the time to look for all sorts of videos. I doubt those people disappear too... they prolly just forget the passwords to their old accounts haha
Interesting how Inon Zur, composer of Icewind Dale 2's OST (among also Throne of Bhaal) has later on composed the soundtracks of famous current-generation titles like Fallout 3, New Vegas and Dragon Age. Whereas on the other hand, Jeremy Soule, composer of Icewind Dale 1's OST, composed soundtracks for the Elder Scrolls Series (Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim), among countless others. Also interesting also how people often forget about the older legendary cRPG titles while over-hyping the current ones coming out by the day. While the new ones aren't bad, by any stretch, there's definitely so much more charm to those of the 80s, 90s or early 2000s, when technology was very scarce and limited. Still those, the aforementioned composers certainly didn't lose any tact, and are still composing beautiful, heartwarming music.
The first time I've heard this track, I was speechless, I felt goosebumps, all over my arms all because of how hauntingly beautiful this masterpiece is. I kept listening to this for over an hour one day.
For all fans - Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale Enhanced Edition :) ... It's nine o'clock , time to take Minsk , Jaheira , Aerie and Valygar into the temple district
Welp 5-6 months to late for the answer but hell. IMO IWD 2 was one of the most cRPG game's ever, sure it didn't had a grand story like Baldurs Gate or Fallout, in fact it was quite linear but the share amount how much your party composition matter was just ... devastating (out of all the games that were out at this time it had the most race/class/skill/talent dilemma ever). If you wanted to experience every nook and cranny of the game you really had to play it 2 to 3 times.
Niesamowite 80 sekund mega emocji ,najwspanialszy utwór z gry za mojego życia ,fajnie czasy , byłem gówniarzem i grałem w Baldura lub Icewind D. na pierwszym kompie :)
I think Inon Zur was influenced by the soundtrack from Conan the Barbarian. Whenever I hear the music from Throne of Bhaal or Icewind Dale, I am always reminded of the much underrated soundtrack from the original Conan movie.
Funny, I just posted a similar remark before I read yours. Basil Paladorus (sp) who did the soundtrack from Conan was a great inspiration for these games. The ending music from Throne of Bhaal sounds right out of the tune called Atlantean Sword.
That song is awesome,i played that game when i was only six years old....That remind's me old good games, with soul not just graphics. And i'm sorry for my english
What a trembling piece of art, music is, forever threatened by people that lose touch with things inspiring and beautiful. This truly is an outstanding piece.
on the start of the song i get the feeling that everything i had was gone and completely lost. then later on 0:20 it still gived me hope to find a other way to live. you always find hope inside of smiles that people you love and you care about. they will always be there for you no matter what so stay stronge!! this is really a BEAUTIFUL SONG!!!
this song really took me to the world in early 80's when suffering was suffering, love was love and song was a song with a soul..wish there would be a time again!....
i just cant stop listening it! and i hope im living in those pictures! what a beautiful and its like im a forest fairy and im the one only there dancing with this wonderful music
I've never played the game but it was music like this that first got me into the goth subculture (admittedly the very early pre-goth days) over five years ago and I only just re-discovered this song having forgotten the name until now.
What to say? Yes yes... What to say? There are things that you can't describe, and this is one of these tings. Wonderful, a masterpiece, unbeatable. Always and forever.
One of the deepest, visually gratifying, simple yet subtle, elegant and carefully balanced made Infinity engine game of all! Not a first time effort of dull looking BG1, not the over the top, excessing forced fantasy BG2 and not the too simple yet admittedly fine game IWD1
I just came here to hear this song, after hard night in work... i putted my headphones... and when music goes i felt like struked by electricity, and tears showed in my eyes. metaphysical experience...
Seared into my soul for life. I have likely run over 200+ campaigns through Targos... days upon days of AFK'ing with the music playing in the background.
when i was a kid playing icewind dale 2 i used to wander the whole town level just to listen to this, this music shows that sometimes videogames can be works of art.
Icewid Dale 2 sound from the very beggining of the game. Game abolutely briliant so the soundtrack ofcourse. I got full saga a must have for a RPG fan :D
they say graphic is make or break for a game, but imho, music is just as much important. i've bee playing games for last 30 years or so, and there are only few games where music left deep impact on me. Icewind dale series are one of them ( mass effect saga second and ORI series third)
i cant even explain how i feel every time i listen to this masterpiece.... so many good memories about this game. a great music for a geat game. R.I.P. old school RPGs... (help us project:eternity. you are our only hope)
I have to say, this piece from the game worked extremely well to pull you into the game! The song conveys the sorrow and uncertainty felt by the people of Targos during the raids, and the pain of having to destroy their own homes to protect their lives. It was a great aid for pulling players into the story!
indeed my favourite song and "Rubina Sky Happiness" also very positive song. I wish to hear more that kind of Art Music in my live, instead of pop-easy listening crap.
sad theme ? wow, this is a freaking frostland city theme. Its relaxing, a music you hear in game after surviving a rough storm, cave full of goblins and seeing the sunshine for the first time in few days
