It's the 1080 of AMD. It beats even a 1070 in some cases when dealing with crossfire lol. R9 390x's were even better.

@@TheNiteNinja19 Funny because originally I was running an FX 8350 with two 290x's in crossfire. When I got the 295x2 I had planned on replacing both with it but read an article about the Tri-fire set up and thought why not. I had a 1200w PS but was having issues whenever crossfire was enabled. It ended up being under powered. I got myself a 1600w Evga supernova and the problem went away. I still use that 1600w in my current build even though it's overkill. I got my 295x2 for $750 in 2015 new and sold it last year for $900 at the hight of the mining craze. Upgraded to a 1080ti and am quite happy

Did you not see the performance tests in this vid? Between Timmy's results, the results The Horror posted, and other benchmarks I've seen, it's very close to a 1080, especially at higher resolutions. Still loving my 295x2 even 4 years later. As I run 6 screen Eyefinity for work and things like Elite Dangerous Nvidia isn't an option. You just have to tweak in game settings on your titles to stay below the 4gb Vram limit. Yes it pumps out heat but during the winter I seriously don't need to turn the heating on while gaming. Only takes 85w running 6 desktop screens when not gaming (monitors excluded). Will upgrade if Navi turns out to be worth it. Timmy Joe NZXT Cam or the built in Radeon Adrenalin overlay should allow you to check framerates without issue.

The Horror Well yes, But if you have a micro ATX board with only 1 x16 lane then a dual GPU card will be ideal if you want to venture in SLI/Crossfire, Micro ATX is picking up in popularity, Some say SLI/Crossfire is also dying, so you got that argument but its subjective though. I just find dual GPU cards interesting myself for situations where fitting in 2 physical cards is not possible.

That i5 will stutter even if it gets faster average FPS in some games. I have an old 4570 and my current 1500X is not always much faster but damn does it do so much better overall.

@AlexanderVRadev
@AlexanderVRadev 6 лет назад
I am running the same i5 3570k and it doesn't stutter. First off there is a huge difference between a locked CPU like the 4570 running at something over 3GHz and an unlocked and overclocked to the max CPU like the 3570k running at 4.9Ghz for example. Second stutter is not caused by having old CPU, it is caused by the hardware being hammered by far more that it can handle like for example having your CPU running too slow so the game overloads the main thread while at the same time having your GPU being pushed to the max due to far higher settings than it can handle. It can be a simple case of running out of Vram on your GPU and so on.
@CharcharoExplorer
@CharcharoExplorer 6 лет назад
Yes I know why stutter happens. No it is not VRAM nor RAM issues as upgrading to the 1500X fixed all of those problems and I had 16 GB DDR3 and now have 16 GB DDR4. Modern games need more threads. That is all there is to it. If I were to play older or less demanding new games, the 1500X wont score a lot over the 4570 (slightly higher IPC and clocks on Zen is all there is to it) but in a multitasking scenario or in modern games, there is a real difference.

Hi man. Great video. About Doom not using the second GPU, I noticed you are using Vulcan. Vulcan doesn't run SLI or Crossfire at all as far as I know. I had the same issue with my MARS 760x2. As soon as you change to OpenGL however, it works with SLI no problem. I think Crossfire should work fine as well in OpenGL and the scaling I got was mighty fine, keeping the GPUs at over 90% at all times with no stutter or visual glitches. I am currently thinking of getting the same model - R9 295x2 card to be honest. After all this is the best dual GPU solution in existence (that you can get at the very least).

I love this AMD series! I have one of this R9 295x2 and a HD 7990 (prev. dual GPU). I am running them in unRaid server and they sharing on a 3rd gen i7. I can confirm the performance, even they are running in a a seperate VM/2threads! They are very durable, last year 24/7 i was mining without any issue. Unfortunately it has a monster TDP around 580-600watt only the card itself. My rig under a full load was eating 1.3kW with this 2 GPU.

the original cooler design was pretty ingenious. They separated the heat from the gpu's into the loop and then used a heat sink for everything else with its own fan. That way they didn't have to create an absolutely enormous radiator to handle all the heat. Because the 120mm rad that comes with it woud likely be totally heat soaked otherwise. I hope AMD does another dual gpu card... hopefully infinity fabric will finally bring about the dual gpu no crossfire or sli era.

I've always wanted this card but never could get it. I did have the 8GB XFX version of the 290X. Then when the rumors began on the "Fury X2" I was so interested because of the strength of the 295x2. Then AMD kicked me in the groin at the last minute by calling it the "Pro Duo" and made it specifically a workstation card. I liked the SLI on a board because it didn't have the overhead caused by the PCI-E. So now I hope that Navi uses infinity fabric to link multiple GPU cores together like what has made Ryzen so successful.

Myself I own a 290 and it's still a very good card, I've OCed it to 1167 core and 1602 vram (new thermal pads and paste tho) and it hold up to a gtx 1060 (but consume 2 times the power ^^).

Hey they did make a 390 model, but was slower than the 290X dual core model, here's the review for the card I was mentioning www.tomshardware.com/reviews/powercolor-devil-13-dual-amd-r9-290x-review,3853.html

Yeah I struggle to get my cards above 1100 mhz, could be a crap bin or something as I have seen 1200 to be a good sweet spot

I have one from Sapphire, it's an amazing card, was a dream to me since I saw for the first time, the design and engineering are awesome, when the game helps, it's basically a 1080 with 4gb vram at 4k, and boy, this card has 4 years old...

The hawaii series is notorious for artifacting, I'm surprised you didn't get a lot of that. They're also pretty bad overclockers for the most part.

Interesting card, and nice video. I'm still pretty blown away by its performance today...when it works, that is. As for daily usage though, I'm much more content with my one Fury and lack of crossfire issues :P

i have one setup in my friends rig, run slightly lower voltages, and use old drivers, like, his is stable with the radeon drivers from late 2016. newer drivers caused desyncing with the cores and random crashes and artifacting

Still run one....awesome card runs my 3440x1440 monitor great! Does run hot and consumes lots of power. M-GPU support is getting better and I really haven't had alot of problems with crossfire or recent games..

Sold my 295x2 in 2018 when the miners were paying through the nose, got $850 out of it, only paid $550. Bought a 1080 Ti with money left over!

Another great video mate, I have a 2700X and 8700K i mess about with frequently, for the most part the 2700x has ran well but I ended up giving up doing any custom oc i used that XFR overdrive feature. or just let it do it itself these days. would like to get mine up to 4.2 or 4.3 all the time but the power draw on it gets a bit crazy. cant wait to watercool my 1080ti soon squeeze a bit more life out of it before upgrading.

When Timmy Joe PC Tech goes bigger, I want to be on the payroll and support this channel. My dreams were this. I have the knowledge to support the channel and I could be the grunt. Please Timmy Joe PC Tech let me be your building blocks as I was in business for over 5 years doing PcProBuilders and having my own server.

Quite the special card indeed. It was never easy to get dual gpu's run well. Or at least give it 200% performance over a 1 GPU system. A lot of work to keep both GPU's comunicating and the busses filled.

A crappy displayport cable or mini-dp adapter can cause weird ass shit to happen. Not sure what you're using but try getting a good quality cable or active adapter and see if that stops some of the frustrating bugs. Just a thought...

For this, I had a friend who had a Intel I5 but he finally switch to a Intel i7 just to get it running all the time since at times the intel i5 would act weird at times and just blue screen for him, and then he got the hot king of all hottness, the AMD FX 9590 CPU and he was able to keep it running but damn with both of them running, you better have water blocks for both the CPU and the GPU since they going to run super hot and pull a ton of power from the wall, but at least he was able to run it and get the computer on them benchmarks websites.

I've got an XFX R9 290X 8GB paired with a ryzen 1700@3.92GHz. So far it is great for me because i play on a 22" 60Hz 1080p monitor. For example PUBG runs at around 80-100FPS with AA on ultra, view distance on ultra, textures on medium, effects on medium, shadows on very low, post processing on very low. I hope it'll last me some time.

I often shy away from cards like these, for they have usually been abused with major overclocks...users often dump these cards when they begin to fail due to extensive abuse; however, for the price you paid? A very good buy though.
